"Many who are now only half converted on the question of meat eating will go from God’s people to walk no more with them." — Councils on Diet and Foods, p. 382;

"A diet of flesh-meat tends to develop animalism. A development of animalism lessens spirituality, rendering the mind incapable of understanding truth." —Counsels on Health, p. 574

Self - Denial Essential The indulgence of animal appetites has degraded and enslaved many. Self - denial and a restraint upon the animal appetites are necessary to elevate and establish an improved condition of health and morals, and purify corrupted society. Every violation of principle in eating and drinking blunts the perceptive faculties, making it impossible for them to appreciate or place the right value upon eternal things. It is of the greatest importance that mankind should not be ignorant in regard to the consequences of excess. Temperance in all things is necessary to health and the development and growth of a good Christian character. CH 38.2 Those who transgress the laws of God in their physical organism will not be less slow to violate the law of God spoken from Sinai. Those who will not, after the light has come to them, eat and drink from principle instead of being controlled by appetite, will not be tenacious in regard to being governed by principle in other things. The agitation of the subject of reform in eating and drinking will develop character and will unerringly bring to light those who make a “god of their bellies.” CH 39.1

Counsels on Diet and Foods, Page 375 - The state of the mind has largely to do with the health of the body, and especially with the health of the digestive organs. As a general thing, the Lord did not provide His people with FLESH MEAT in the desert, because He knew that the use of this diet WOULD CREATE DISEASE AND INSUBORDINATION. In order to modify the disposition, and bring the higher powers of the mind into active exercise, He removed from them the flesh of dead animals. HE GAVE THEM ANGELS’ FOOD, MANNA FROM HEAVEN.

Counsels on Diet and Foods, Page 374 - It was only because of their discontent and their murmurings for the fleshpots of Egypt that ANIMAL FOOD WAS GRANTED THEM, and this ONLY FOR A SHORT TIME. Its use brought disease and death to thousands. Yet the restriction to a nonflesh diet was never heartily accepted. It continued to be the cause of discontent and murmuring, open or secret, and it was not made permanent.….Of the meats permitted, THE EATING OF THE FAT AND THE BLOOD WAS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN.

Reasons for Reform, part 9

A United Front

42. We have been given the work of advancing health reform. The Lord desires His people to be in harmony with one another. As you must know, we shall not leave the position in which, for the last thirty-five years, [Written in 1902.] the Lord has been bidding us stand. Beware how you place yourself in opposition to the work of health reform. It will go forward; for it is the Lord's means of lessening the suffering in our world, and of purifying His people. {CD 38.1}

Be careful what attitude you assume, lest you be found causing division. My brother, even while you fail to bring into your life and into your family the blessing that comes from following the principles of health reform, do not harm others by opposing the light God has given on this subject. {CD 38.2}

Special Testimonies for Ministers and Workers 7:40 Counsels on Health, 561, 562

43. The Lord has given His people a message in regard to health reform. This light has been shining upon their pathway for thirty years; and the Lord cannot sustain His servants in a course which will counteract it. He is displeased when His servants act in opposition to the message upon this point, which He has given them to give to others. Can He be pleased when half the workers laboring in a place, teach that the principles of health reform are as closely allied with the third angel's message as the arm is to the body, while their co-workers, by their practice, teach principles that are entirely opposite? This is regarded as a sin in the sight of God.... {CD 38.3}

Nothing brings such discouragement upon the Lord's watchmen as to be connected with those who have mental capacity, and who understand the reasons of our faith, but by precept and example manifest indifference to moral obligations. {CD 38.4}

The light which God has given upon health reform cannot be trifled with without injury to those who attempt it; and no man can hope to succeed in the work of God while, by precept and example, he acts in opposition to the light which God has sent.—Letter 48, 1902 {CD 38.5}

44. It is important that instructions should be given by ministers in regard to living temperately. They should show the relation which eating, working, resting, and dressing, sustain to health. All who believe the truth for these last days, have something to do in this matter. It concerns them, and God requires them to arouse and interest themselves in this reform. He will not be pleased with their course if they regard this question with indifference.—Testimonies for the Church 1:618, 1867 {CD 39.1}

Stumbling Over the Blessing

45. Said the angel, “Abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul.” You have stumbled at the health reform. It appears to you to be a needless appendix to the truth. It is not so; it is a part of the truth. Here is a work before you which will come closer and be more trying than anything which has yet been brought to bear upon you. While you hesitate and stand back, failing to lay hold upon the blessing which it is your privilege to receive, you suffer loss. You are stumbling over the very blessing which heaven has placed in your path to make progress less difficult. Satan presents this before you in the most objectionable light, that you may combat that which would prove the greatest benefit to you, which would be for your physical and spiritual health.—Testimonies for the Church 1:546, 1867 {CD 39.2}

[Excuses for Wrongdoing Framed under Satanic Influences—710]

Consider the Judgment

46. The Lord calls for volunteers to enter His army. Sickly men and women need to become health reformers. God will cooperate with His children in preserving their health, if they eat with care, refusing to put unnecessary burdens on the stomach. He has graciously made the path of nature sure and safe, wide enough for all who walk in it. He has given for our sustenance the wholesome and health-giving productions of the earth. {CD 39.3}

He who does not heed the instruction God has given in His word and in His works, he who does not obey the divine commands, has a defective experience. He is a sickly Christian. His spiritual life is feeble. He lives, but his life is devoid of fragrance. He fritters away precious moments of grace. {CD 39.4}

Many have done the body much injury by a disregard of the laws of life, and they may never recover from the effects of their neglect; but even now they may repent and be converted. Man has tried to be wiser than God. He has become a law unto himself. God calls upon us to give attention to His requirements, no longer to dishonor Him by dwarfing the physical, mental, and spiritual capabilities. Premature decay and death are the result of walking away from God to follow the ways of the world. He who indulges self must bear the penalty. In the judgment we shall see how seriously God regards the violation of the laws of health. Then, as we take a retrospective view of our course of action, we shall see what knowledge of God we might have gained, what noble characters we might have formed, if we had taken the Bible as our counselor. {CD 40.1}

The Lord is waiting for His people to become wise in understanding. As we see the wretchedness, deformity, and disease that have come into the world as the result of ignorance in regard to the proper care of the body, how can we refrain from giving the warning? Christ has declared that as it was in the days of Noah, when the earth was filled with violence and corrupted by crime, so shall it be when the Son of man is revealed. God has given us great light, and if we walk in this light, we shall see His salvation. {CD 40.2}

There is need of decided changes. It is time for us to humble our proud, self-willed hearts, and seek the Lord while He may be found. As a people we need to humble our hearts before God; for the scars of inconsistency are on our practice. {CD 40.3}

The Lord is calling upon us to come into line. The day is far spent. The night is at hand. The judgments of God are already seen, both on land and on sea. No second probation will be granted us. This is no time for making false moves. Let every one thank God that we still have an opportunity to form characters for the future eternal life.—Letter 135, 1902 {CD 40.4}

  • The Original Diet (In Genesis (1:29) we find God's original diet for man)

"Cooking may be regarded as less desirable than some other lines of work, but in reality it is a science in value above all other sciences. Thus God regards the preparation of healthful food. He places a high estimate on those who do faithful service in preparing wholesome, palatable food. The one who understands the art of properly preparing food, and who uses this knowledgeis worthy of higher commendation than those engaged in any other line of workThis talent should be regarded as equal in value to ten talents; for its right use has much to do with keeping the human organism in health. Because so inseparably connected with life and health, it is the most valuable of all gifts.” Counsels on Diet and Foods, 251.

 "I would pay a higher price for a cook than for any other part of my work." Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 259.4

“The cook fills an important place in the household.  She is preparing food to be taken into the stomach, to form brain, bone, and muscle.  The health of all members of the family depends largely upon her skill and intelligence. . . .

“We can have a variety of good, wholesome food, cooked in a healthful manner, so that it will be palatable to all. It is of vital importance to know how to cook.  Poor cooking produces disease and bad tempers; the system becomes deranged, and heavenly things cannot be discerned.  There is more religion in good cooking than you have any idea of. . . .

"Those who have received instruction regarding the evils of the use of flesh foods, tea and coffee, and rich and unhealthful food preparations, and who are determined to make a covenant with God by sacrifice, will not continue to indulge their appetite for food that they know to be unhealthful. God demands that the appetites be cleansed (like he cleansed the temple from the money changers in the temple - take these things hence, my house shall be called a house of prayer!), and that self-denial be practiced in regard to those things which are not good. This is a work that will have to be done before His people can stand before Him a perfected people."—Testimonies, vol. 9, pp. 153, 154.

THE PLEDGE
      “I solemnly promise, before God, to abstain from tobacco, spirituous liquors, snuff, tea, coffee, flesh-meats, butter, spices, rich cake, mince pies, a large amount of salt, and animal fat of all kinds, baking powder, soda or saleratus in any form, and cheese, and from all exciting articles of food, and to abstain from eating between meals, and to do all I can to induce others to do likewise.” Testimony and pledge sent to the General Conference, March 29, 1908.

"Excessive indulgence in eating, drinking, sleeping, or seeing, is sin."—Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 141.

"Whoever violates moral obligations in the matter of eating and dressing prepares the way to violate the claims of God in regard to eternal interests. . . . If we enfeeble the body by self-gratification, by indulging the appetite, . . . we become enemies of God."—Testimonies, vol. 3, p. 63.

But Jesus and His disciples ate fish right? Yes they did. Which is why this health message is a message particularly for the end times, where we are living now.

Back 2000 years ago, "Biblically clean" fish and animal meat was far more pure and didn't contain the diseases, toxins, drugs and growth hormones that we find in the majority of animals and fish today. The earth is so polluted now, that no flesh is safe to eat. You ask any health expert or scientist who isn't afraid to speak the truth, and you will be told that the majority of animals and fish are diseased and full of toxins. Look at the KNOWN oil spills during the past 10 years alone. The seas and rivers are now full of deadly chemicals, and these chemicals get soaked into the fish that live in these waters. And the way animals are reared now, being fattened up with growth hormones and pumped with anti-biotics to combat disease, their flesh is no longer safe to eat.

Just look at this quote made back in the mid 1800's ...

"There are but a few animals that are free from disease. They have been made to suffer greatly for the want of light, pure air, and wholesome food. When they are fattened, they are often confined in close stables, and are not permitted to exercise, and to have free circulation of air. Many poor animals are left to breathe the poison of filth which is left in barns and stables. Their lungs will not long remain healthy while inhaling such impurities. Disease is conveyed to the liver, and the entire system of the animal is diseased. They are killed, and prepared for the market, and people eat freely of this poisonous animal food. Much disease is caused in this manner. But people cannot be made to believe that it is the meat they have eaten, which has poisoned their blood, and caused their sufferings. Many die of disease caused wholly by meat-eating, yet the world does not seem to be the wiser ... Their blood is highly inflamed, and those who eat of their meat, eat poison. Some are not immediately affected, while others are attacked with severe pain, and die from fever, cholera, or some unknown disease. Very many animals are sold for the city market known to be diseased by those who have sold them, and those who buy them are not always ignorant of the matter. Especially in larger cities this is practiced to a great extent, and meat-eaters know not that they are eating diseased animals." (E.G.White, Spiritual Gifts, Vol.4a, p.147)

If this was happening back in the 1800's, just imagine the poisonous state of animal flesh today!! As a matter of fact, doctors who are educated in health are now attributing many diseases to poor diet and meat eating.

Meat demand sparks dramatic rise in antibiotic use

Now remember what the first angel said? ... Revelation 14:7 ...'Fear God and give glory to Him.' ... What is one way of us giving glory to God? ...1 Corinthians 6:20 ...'For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.' ... How can we give glory to God "in our bodies" if we continue to fill it with poisonous flesh and alcohol and refined sugar, making ourselves sick, diseased and in need of Babylon's pharmaceutical drugs, which in turn makes us even worse? No. We need to "present our bodies a living sacrifice" to God (Romans 12:1) by reforming our diet and living a healthy lifestyle. After all, a healthy body will help produce a healthy mind and a healthy soul. Does God not desire this of His people? Of course He does.

Meat should be totally discarded from our diets now. Including alcohol and pharmaceutical drugs.

God has shown us many things through the prophet Daniel. Good health being one of them ...

Daniel 1:8,12,15 ...'But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself ... Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink ... And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.'

Friend, a time has come when we as the children of God need to be clear minded. Clear minded to help us discern the great deceptions that Satan is bringing upon this world. He knows his time is short, so he is going to use all his craft and power to deceive God's people during these last days. Which is why we need to do our best to build our bodies up to be able to resist disease and sickness, so that we can think clearly, discern between right and wrong and bring glory to God in our lives.

Health reform needs to be a part of our Christian growth, as we draw nearer and nearer to Christ Jesus, and as we enter (spiritually) into the most holy place of God's heavenly sanctuary, into the very presence of God.

3 John 1:2 ...'Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.'

Do you want Jesus to light your lamp?

"Tea and coffee drinking is a sin, an injurious indulgence, which, like other evils, injures thesoul."—Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 425.

"Our habits of eating and drinking show whether we are of the world or among the number that the Lord by his mighty cleaver of truth has separated from the world."—Temperance, p. 141.

"By precept and example make it plain that the food which God gave Adam in his sinless state is the best for man's use as he seeks to regain that sinless state."—Testimonies, vol. 7, p. 135.

Everyone who by faith obeys God’s commandments, WILL reach the condition of sinlessness in which Adam lived before his transgression. Mar 224.5

"With our first parents, intemperate desire resulted in the loss of Eden. Temperance in all things has more to do with our restoration to Eden then men realize."—Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 43.

"As our first parents lost Eden through the indulgence of appetite, our only hope of regaining Eden is through the firm denial of appetite and passion."—Ibid., p. 59.

"We are to beware lest that which is taken into the stomach shall banish from the mind high and holy thoughts."—Medical Ministry, p. 275.

"The Greatest Hindrance to. . . Sanctification"

"It is the indulgence of appetite and passion which makes the truth of none effect upon the heart. It is impossible for the spirit and power of the truth to sanctify a man, soul, body, and spirit, when he is controlled by appetite and passion."—Testimonies, vol. 3, p. 570.

"It is not possible for us to glorify God while living in violation of the laws of life. The heart cannot possibly maintain consecration to God while lustful appetite is indulged. A diseased body and disordered intellect, because of continual indulgence in hurtful lust, make sanctification of the body and spirit impossible." —Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 44.

"It [sanctification] is not merely a theory, an emotion, or a form of words, but a living, active principle, entering into the everyday life. It requires that our habits of eating, drinking, and dressing, be such as to secure the preservation of physical, mental, and moral health, that we may present to the Lord our bodies—not an offering corrupted by wrong habits, but—`a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God.' "—Temperance, p. 19.

"God requires of His people continual advancement  We need to learn that indulged appetite is the greatest hindrance to mental improvement and soul sanctification. . . . Let the individual who is seeking to possess purity of spirit bear in mind that in Christ there is power to control the appetite."—Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 127.

"All are required to do what they can to preserve healthy bodies and sound minds. If they will gratify a gross appetite, and by so doing blunt their sensibilities, and becloud their perceptive faculties so that they cannot appreciate the exalted character of God, or delight in the study of His word, they may be assured that God will not accept their unworthy offering any sooner than that of Cain. God requires them to cleanse themselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of the Lord. After man has done all in his power to ensure health, by the denying of appetite and gross passions, that he may possess a healthy mind, and a sanctified imagination, that he may render to God an offering in righteousness, then he is saved alone by a miracle of God's mercy, as was the ark upon the stormy billows. Noah had done all that God required of him in making the ark secure; then God performed that which man could not do, and preserved the ark by His miraculous power."—Ibid., pp. 49, 50.

"A clogged stomach means a clogged brain. The most precious words may be heard and not appreciated, because the mind is confused by an improper diet. By overeating on the Sabbath, many do more than they think, to unfit themselves for receiving the benefit of its sacred opportunities."—Ibid., p. 46.

"Upon the Sabbath, in the house of God, gluttons will sit and sleep under the burning truths of God's word. They can neither keep their eyes open, nor comprehend the solemn discourses given."—Testimonies, vol. 2, P. 374.

"Intemperance in eating, even of food of the right quality, will have a prostrating influence upon the system, and will blunt the keener and holier emotions."—Counsels on Health, p. 123.

"Excessive eating of the best of food will produce a morbid condition of the moral feelings. . . . Wrong habits of eating and drinking lead to errors in thought and action. Indulgence of appetite strengthens the animal propensities, giving them the ascendency over the mental and spiritual powers. . . . Everything that conflicts with natural law creates a diseased condition of thesoul."—Review and Herald, Jan. 25, 1881.

"Overeating has a worse effect upon the system than overworking; the energies of the soul are more effectually prostrated by intemperate eating than by intemperate working."—Counsels on Health, p. 160.

Christian Perfection Hindered

"The Spirit of God cannot come to our help, and assist us in perfecting Christian characters while we are indulging our appetites to the injury of health, and while the pride of life controls. . . . It is impossible for those who indulge the appetite to attain to Christian perfection."—Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 57.

"It is impossible for those who give the reins to appetite to attain to Christian perfection." —Ibid., p. 236.

"The health of the body is to be regarded as essential for growth in grace and the acquirement of an even temper. If the stomach is not properly cared for, the formation of an upright, moral character will be hindered." —Testimonies, vol. 9, p. 160.

But beware of that which the old writers called the world’s trinity—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. {Lt43-1898 (May 19, 1898) par. 25}

"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world" 1 John 2:16.

"Poor cookery is wearing away the life energies of thousands. More souls are lost from this cause than many realize"—Counsels on Health, pp. 116, 117.

"It is a sacred duty for those who cook to learn how to prepare healthful food. Many souls are lost as the result of poor cookery" —The Ministry of Healing, p. 302.

"But those who are slaves to appetite will fail in perfecting Christian character."—Testimonies,vol. 3, p. 492.

"It is impossible for anyone to live intemperately in regard to diet and yet retain a large degree of patience."—Ibid., vol. 4, p. 141.

"The controlling power of appetite will prove the ruin of thousands, when, if they had conquered on this point, they would have had moral, power to gain the victory over every other temptation of Satan."—Counsels on Health, p. 574.

"The unhealthful food placed in the stomach strengthens the appetites that war against the soul, developing the lower propensities. A diet of flesh-meat tends to develop animalism. A development of animalism lessens spirituality, rendering the mind incapable of understanding truth. —Counsels on Health, p. 574. . . .

"The physical nature will be brought into conflict with the spiritual nature. . . . He [God] cannot enlighten the mind of a man who makes a cesspool of his stomach. He does not hear the prayers of those who are walking in the light of the sparks of their own kindling" —Counsels on Health, p. 576.

"Let the members of our churches deny every selfish appetite. Every penny expended for tea, coffee, and flesh meat is worse than wasted, for :these things hinder the best development of the .. . spiritual powers."—Medical Ministry, p. 274.

"The indulgence of appetite affects them in all the relations of life. It is seen in their family, in their church, in the prayer meeting, and in the conduct of their children. It has been the curse of their lives. You cannot make them understand the truths for these last days." —Counsels on Health, p. 152.

"Intemperance in eating and drinking, leading as it does to the indulgence of the lower passions, prepares the way for men to disregard all moral obligations. When assailed by temptation, they have little power of resistance." —Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 378.

Food plays such an important aspect in our life. Food affects our minds tremendously! How clearly we think, or food can numb and clouds our minds so we cannot discern truth or error. Are you choosing the right foods so your mind can learn and obey the truth? It's our daily "little" choices that determine our destiny! So be very, very careful what you think, say and do!

Certainly, the truth is - to learn what live raw fresh fruits, vegetables, grains and nuts we need to be eating to "get well from Cancer, Heart Disease, Parkinson's, Lupus, Arthritis, Diabetes and many, many other diseases by natural methods, without drugs of any kind." DrDay.com

The food which God gave Adam in his sinless state is the best for man’s use as he seeks to regain that sinless state!

No Safety in Using Eggs, Milk, Cream, or Butter
Why? These items impair brain function, including all cheeses and animal meats (red/white/fish etc).

A pure and noble life, a life of victory over appetite and lust, is possible to everyone who will unite his weak, wavering human will to the omnipotent, unwavering will of God. MH 176.

100 years ago, Ellen White wrote this paragraph in her book:

Grains, fruits, nuts, and vegetables constitute the diet chosen for us by our Creator. These foods, prepared in as simple and natural a manner as possible,  are the most healthful and nourishing. They impart a strength, a power of endurance, and a vigour of intellect, that are not afforded by a more complex and stimulating diet. [Ellen White, Ministry of Healing p296 (1905)]

Never be ashamed to say, 'No, thank you; I do not eat meat. I have conscientious scruples against eating the flesh of dead animals.'" CDF 402

Dear Friends,

The following information should give us all pause, to stop and think, what is it that we do on a daily basis that could cause us to miss out on Heaven? We need more piety in our little daily choices. Synonyms for piety: devoutness, devotion, piousness, religion, holiness, godliness, saintliness; veneration, reverence, faith, religious duty, spirituality, religious zeal, fervor; pietism, religiosity. WE NEED THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST IN US BEFORE WE CAN OBEY OR EVEN HAVE A DESIRE TO OBEY GOD! Learn how to surrender, more fully to Christ here. We have been given such power and authority to do Christ's work, which is to believe in Him, but if we believe we OBEY Him! Because true love is obedience to our maker.

"In dealing with the victims of intemperance we must remember that we are not dealing with sane men, but with those who for the time being are under the power of a demonThe Ministry of Healing, p. 172.3Temperance, p. 127.3.

"I saw that the stewards of the Lord have no duty to help those persons who persist in using tobacco, tea, and coffee." Testimonies, vol. 1, p. 224.

There is not an impulse of our nature, not a faculty of the mind or an inclination of the heart, but needs to be, moment by moment, under the control of the Spirit of God.--Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 421 (1890).

Christians should be preparing for what is soon to break upon the world as an overwhelming surprise, and this preparation they should make by diligently studying the Word of God and striving to conform their lives to its precepts.--Prophets and Kings, p. 626 (c. 1914).

None but those who have fortified the mind with the truths of the Bible will stand through the last great conflict.--The Great Controversy, pp. 593, 594 (1911).

Only those who have been diligent students of the Scriptures and who have received the love of the truth will be shielded from the powerful delusion that takes the world captive.--The Great Controversy, p. 625 (1911).

Our people need to understand the oracles of God; they need to have a systematic knowledge of the principles of revealed truth, which will fit them for what is coming upon the earth and prevent them from being carried about by every wind of doctrine.--Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5, p. 273 (1885).

Are we indulging in Babylonian foods? Are we longing for the fleshpots of Egypt like the Israelites? Instead of being happy with our manna given to us for these last days before we meet our maker, our Ishi (Hosea 2:16), our God?

"It is better to let sweet things alone. Let alone those sweet dessert dishes that are placed on the table. You do not need them. You want a clear mind to think after God's order." (Counsels on Diet, p. 328)

"The use of soda or baking powder in bread making is harmful and unnecessary. Soda causes inflammation of the stomach and often poisons the entire system." (Ministry of Healing, p. 300)

"Many understand how to make different kinds of cakes, but cake is not the best food to be placed upon the table. Sweet cakes, sweet puddings, and custards will disorder the digestive organs; and why should we tempt those who surround the table by placing such articles before them?" (Youth Instructor, May 31, 1894)

"The indulgence of appetite affects them in all the relations of life. It is seen in their family, in their church, in the prayer meeting, and in the conduct of their children. It has been the curse of their lives. You cannot make them understand the truths for these last days—Counsels on Health, p. 152.

"Cheese should never be introduced into the stomach." (Testimonies, vol. 2, p. 68

"Butter is less harmful when eaten on cold bread than when used in cooking, but, as a rule, it is better to dispense with it altogether. Cheese is still more objectionable; it is wholly unfit for food." (Ministry of Healing, p. 302

"Soon butter will never be recommended, and after a time milk will be entirely discarded; for disease in animals is increasing in proportion to the increase of wickedness among men. The time will come when there will be no safety in using eggs, milk, cream, or butter."--Letter 14, 1901, p. 3. (To Dr. S. Rand, January 22, 1901.) {8MR 384.2}

"Years ago I had a testimony of reproof for the managers in our camp meetings bringing upon the ground and selling to our people cheese and other hurtful things..." (Letter 25a, 1889)

"You should be teaching your children. You should be instructing them how to shun the vices and corruption's of this age. Instead of this, many are studying how to get something good to eat. You place upon your tables butter, eggs, and meat and then your children partake of them. (Testimonies, Vol. 2, p. 362, 1870)

"Children are allowed to eat flesh meats, spices, butter, cheese, pork, rich pastry, and condiments generally. They are also allowed to eat irregularly and between meals of unhealthful food. These things do their work of deranging the stomach, exciting the nerves to unnatural action, and enfeebling the intellect. Parents do not realize that they are sowing the seed which will bring forth disease and death." (Testimonies, vol. 3, p. 136)

"Let not any of our ministers set an evil example in the eating of flesh-meat. Let them and their families live up to the light of health reform. Let not our ministers animalize their own nature and the nature of their children."(Spalding and Magan, p. 211)

In 1902, Mrs. White said that the people of God would soon need to stop eating dairy products and eggs (see Testimonies, vol. 7, p. 135).

"The salads are prepared with oil and vinegar, fermentation takes place in the stomach, and the food does not digest, but decays or putrefies. As a consequence the blood is not nourished, but becomes filled with impurities, and liver and kidney difficulty appear. Heart disturbances, inflammation, and many evils are the result of such kind of treatment, and not only are the bodies affected, but the morals, the religious life, are affected."--Letter 9, 1887, Manuscript Releases vol. 2, p. 143-144.

"Mustard, pepper, spices, pickles, and other things of a like character, irritate the stomach and make the blood feverish and impure." (Ministry of Healing, p. 325)

"The mince pies and the pickles, which should never find a place in any human stomach, will give a miserable quality of blood." (Testimonies, vol. 2, p. 368)

"Parents who have taught their children to eat unhealthful, stimulating food, all their lives, until the taste is perverted, and they crave clay, slate pencils, burned coffee, tea grounds, cinnamon, cloves, and spices, cannot claim that the appetite demands what the system requires." (Health Reformer, Dec. 1, 1870)

Intemperance means more than just food ... but if we are eating right our minds will be cleared up so we can understand the truths for these end times that our pioneers taught from 1840-1894 timeframe.

By precept and example make it plain that the food which God gave Adam in his sinless state is the best for man's use as he seeks to regain that sinless state"—Testimonies, vol. 7, p. 135.

"With our first parents, intemperate desire resulted in the loss of Eden. Temperance in all things has more to do with our restoration to Eden then men realize"—Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 43.

"As our first parents lost Eden through the indulgence of appetite, our only hope of regaining Eden is through the firm denial of appetite and passion"—Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 59.

"We are to beware lest that which is taken into the stomach shall banish from the mind high and holy thoughts."—Medical Ministry, p. 275.

"A clogged stomach means a clogged brain. The most precious words may be heard and not appreciated, because the mind is confused by an improper diet. By overeating on the Sabbath, many do more than they think, to unfit themselves for receiving the benefit of its sacred opportunities"—Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 46.

"Upon the Sabbath, in the house of God, gluttons will sit and sleep under the burning truths of God's word. They can neither keep their eyes open, nor comprehend the solemn discourses given"—Testimonies, vol. 2, P. 374.

"Intemperance in eating, even of food of the right quality, will have a prostrating influence upon the system, and will blunt the keener and holier emotions"—Counsels on Health, p. 123.

"Let the diet reform be progressive. Let the people be taught how to prepare food without the use of milk or butter. "Excessive eating of the best of food will produce a morbid condition of the moral feelings. . . . Wrong habits of eating and drinking lead to errors in thought and action. Indulgence of appetite strengthens the animal propensities, giving them the ascendency over the mental and spiritual powers. . . . Everything that conflicts with natural law creates a diseased condition of the soul"—Review and Herald, Jan. 25, 1881.

"Overeating has a worse effect upon the system than overworking; the energies of the soul are more effectually prostrated by intemperate eating than by intemperate working"—Counsels on Health, p. 160.

"The Greatest Hindrance to. . . Sanctification"

"It is the indulgence of appetite and passion which makes the truth of none effect upon the heart. It is impossible for the spirit and power of the truth to sanctify a man, soul, body, and spirit, when he is controlled by appetite and passion"—Testimonies, vol. 3, p. 570.

"It is not possible for us to glorify God while living in violation of the laws of life. The heart cannot possibly maintain consecration to God while lustful appetite is indulged. A diseased body and disordered intellect, because of continual indulgence in hurtful lust, make sanctification of the body and spirit impossible" —Counsels on Diet and Foods, p.

"The controlling power of appetite will prove the ruin of thousands, when, if they had conquered on this point, they would have had moral, power to gain the victory over every other temptation of Satan."—Counsels on Health, p. 574.

"Again and again I have been shown that God is bringing His people back to His original design, that is, not to subsist upon the flesh of dead animals. He would have us teach people a better way” TSDF 69.

"If meat is discarded, if the taste is not educated in that direction, if a liking for fruits and grains is encouraged, it will soon be as God in the beginning designed it should be. No meat will be used by His people" TSDF 125.

"Many who are now only half converted (half practicing/only leave off "unclean" meats and not all animal products) on the question of meat eating will go from God’s people to walk no more with them" — Councils on Diet and Foods, p. 382;

"A diet of flesh-meat tends to develop animalism. A development of animalism lessens spirituality, rendering the minincapable of understanding truth." —Counsels on Health, p. 574

"UNDERSTANDING" MEANS TO "DEPART FROM EVIL" PER JOB 28:28.

"God gave our first parents the food He designed that the race should eat. It was contrary to His plan to have the life of any creature taken. There was to be no death in Eden...." CDF 81.

"Many die of disease caused wholly by meat-eating, yet the world does not seem to be the wiser ... Especially in larger cities this is practiced to a great extent, and meat-eaters know not that they are eating diseased animals" (E.G.White, Spiritual Gifts, Vol.4a, p.147).

"Every needless transgression of the laws which God has established in our being, is virtually a violation of the law of God, and is as great a sin in the sight of Heaven as to break the Ten Commandments. Ignorance upon this important subject, is sin; the light is now beaming upon us, and we are without excuse if we do not cherish the light, and become intelligent in regard to these things, which it is our highest earthly interest to understand."—Counsels on Health, p. 40.

"Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth." Colossians 3:2.  Think and study about what we will eat in Heaven - we should then eat as close to that as possible here.

"
Cooking may be regarded as less desirable than some other lines of work, but in reality it is a science in value above all other sciences.

There is more religion in good cooking than you have any idea of. . . .

"It is a sin to place poorly prepared food on the table."—Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 251.

"It is
a sin for any of our sisters to make such great preparations for visitors, and wrong their own families by a spare diet which will fail to nourish the system." 2T 485

"Those who have received instruction regarding the evils of the use of flesh foods, tea and coffee, and rich and unhealthful food preparations, and who are determined to make a covenant with God by sacrifice, will not continue to indulge their appetite for food that theyknow to be unhealthful.

(THIS IS THE PLEDGE THAT THE LORD GOD OF HEAVEN GAVE TO ELLEN WHITE AND SHE GAVE IT TO THE GENERAL CONF. PRESIDENT (I THINK IT WAS Butler it would tell if you looked it up- anyway, he refused to give it to the Church he told her, he could not, because,"it would split the church".  (It would SPLIT the church. I did not remember if you ever read it before or not. Then when the president asked for more counsel, she said, "I have no more messages for you...  I think as I have read and read... that-- that was the turning point.

We need to give up the flesh pots of Egypt - stop murmuring and complaining about eating FRUIT! Nuts & seeds!

"It is just as much sin to violate the laws of our being as to break one of the Ten Commandments, for we cannot do either without breaking God's law."—Testimonies, vol. 2, p. 70.

"God's people are not prepared for the loud cry of the third angel. . . . Gluttony is the prevailing sin of this age."—Counsels on Diet and Foods, p. 32.

Those who come up to every point, and stand every test, and overcome, be the price what it may, have heeded the counsel of the True Witness, and they will receive the latter rain (Old SDA pioneer doctrines), and thus be fitted for translation.

"Men and women must be taught to take a careful review of every habit and practice, and at once put away those things that cause an unhealthy condition of the body." Counsels on Health, 445.

"The books of heaven record the sins that would have been committed had there been opportunity"—Signs, July 31, 1901.

"You should avoid the use of drugs and carefully observe the laws of health. If you regard your life you should eat plain food, prepared in the simplest manner, and take more physical exercise. Each member of the family needs the benefits of health reform. But drugging should be forever abandoned; for while it does not cure any malady, it enfeebles the system, making it more susceptible to disease." (Testimonies, vol. 5, p. 311)

"Drug medication, as it is generally practiced, is a curse. Educate away from drugs. Use them less and less..." Counsels on Health, p. 261 (1890).

"Mercury, calomel, and quinine have brought their amount of wretchedness, which the day of God alone will fully reveal." Spiritual Gifts, Vol. 4A, p. 139.

"In their practice, the physicians should seek more and more to lessen the use of drugs instead of increasing it. When Dr. A came to the Health Retreat, she laid aside her knowledge and practice of hygiene, and administered the little homeopathic doses for almost every ailment. This was against the light God had given. Thus our people, who had been taught to avoid drugs in almost every form, were receiving a different education. I was obliged to tell her that this practice of depending upon medicine, whether in large or small doses, was not in accordance with the principles of health reform." (Manuscript Releases Vol. 13, p. 177)

Card playing, chess, checkers, and sports and games for students all proscribed

"There are amusements, such as dancing, card playing, chess, checkers, etc., which we cannot approve, because Heaven condemns them. These amusements open the door for great evil. They are not beneficial in their tendency, but have an exciting influence, producing in some minds a passion for those plays which lead to gambling and dissipation. All such plays should be condemned by Christians, and something perfectly harmless should be substituted in their place." (Testimonies, vol. 1, p. 514)

"I entreat the students in our schools to be sober-minded. The frivolity of the young is not pleasing to God. Their sports and games open the door to a flood of temptation. In your intellectual faculties you are in possession of God's heavenly endowment, and you should not allow your thoughts to be cheap and low." (Testimonies, vol. 8, p. 65)

Football banned

"Play is not essential. The influence has been growing among the students in their devotion to amusements, to a fascinating, bewitching power, to the counteracting of the influence to the truth upon the human mind and character .... What force of powers is put into your games of football and your other inventions after the way of the Gentiles—exercises which bless no one! .... I can not find an instance in the life of Christ where he devoted time to play and amusement. He was the great Educator for the present and the future life. I have not been able to find one instance where He educated His disciples to engage in amusements of football or pugilistic games, to obtain physical exercise... and yet Christ was our pattern in all things." (Fundamentals of Christian Education, pp. 228, 229)

Picnics and social parties banned

"They have not been willing to give up the world, but have united with them, have attended picnics and other gatherings of pleasure, flattering themselves that they were engaging in innocent amusement. Yet I was shown that it is just such indulgences that separate them from God, and make them children of the world." (Testimonies, Vol. 1, p. 269)

"Parties for frivolous, worldly pleasure, gatherings for eating, drinking, and singing, are inspired by a spirit that is from beneath. They are an oblation to Satan. The exhibitions in the bicycle craze are an offense to God. His wrath is kindled against those who do such things." (Testimonies, vol. 8, p. 66)

"All true followers of Jesus will have sacrifices to make. God will prove them and test the genuineness of their faith. I have been shown that the true followers of Jesus will discard picnics, donations, shows, and other gatherings for pleasure. They can find no Jesus there, and no influence which will make them heavenly minded and increase their growth in grace." (Testimonies, vol. 1, p. 288.)

Tennis, cricket, baseball, and bike racing are all taboo

"A view of things was presented before me in which the students were playing games of tennis and cricket. Then I was given instruction regarding the character of these amusements. They were presented to me as a species of idolatry, like the idols of the nations." Counsels to Parents, Teachers, and Students, p. 350

"I was told by my Guide: 'Look ye, and behold the idolatry of My people, to whom I have been speaking, rising up early, and presenting to them their dangers. I looked that they should bring forth fruit.' There were some who were striving for the mastery, each trying to excel the other in the swift running of their bicycles. There was a spirit of strife and contention among them as to which should be the greatest. The spirit was similar to that manifested in the baseball games on the college ground. Said my Guide: 'These things are an offense to God.'" (Testimonies Vol. 8, p. 52)

Musical concerts [secular] nixed

"But many of the popular amusements have been an injury to both mind and body. The practice of calling in the rich and fashionable to give concerts for the diversion of the patients has had an influence contrary to the spirit of the gospel." (Testimony for the Physicians and Helpers of the Sanitarium, p. 69)

Can I read Robinson Crusoe? Shakespeare? Absolutely not!

"Dear Brother E: I have just read the Review and Herald and have seen your article giving a list of good books for our youth. I was much surprised to read your recommendation of Uncle Tom's Cabin, Robinson Crusoe, and such books. You are in danger of becoming somewhat careless in your writing. It would be well to give thought and careful study to whatever is to be immortalized in print. I am really alarmed to see that your spiritual eyesight is not more clear in the matter of selecting and recommending reading for our youth. I know that the recommendation in our papers of such infatuating books as Uncle Tom's Cabin will in many minds justify the reading of other books which are nothing but fiction. . . . This recommendation will make taxing work for those who are laboring to persuade the youth to discard fictitious reading. I have repeatedly seen the evil of reading such books as you recommend, and have an article all prepared, cautioning our youth in this very matter." (Testimonies Vol. 5, p. 516)

"In turning from God's Word to feed on the writings of uninspired men, the mind becomes dwarfed and cheapened." (My Life Today, p. 107)

Theaters? Don't even think about it!

"Among the most dangerous resorts for pleasure is the theater." (Messages to Young People, p. 380)

Billiard halls and bowling alleys are off limits

"The true Christian will not desire to enter any place of amusement or engage in any diversion upon which he cannot ask the blessing of God. He will not be found at the theater, the billiard hall, or the bowling saloon." (Messages to Young People, p. 398)

"The love for these scenes increases with every indulgence, as the desire for intoxicating drink strengthens with its use. The only safe course is to shun the theater, the circus, and every other questionable place of amusement." (Messages to Young People, p. 380)

Dance halls are enemy territory!

"To those who plead for these diversions, we answer, We cannot indulge in them in the name of Jesus of Nazareth. The blessing of God would not be invoked upon the hour spent at the theater or in the dance. No Christian would wish to meet death in such a place. No one would wish to be found there when Christ shall come." (Messages to Young People, p. 398)

Women who do not wear pants underneath their dresses are immodest!

"They do not blush to witness the exposure of the almost naked limbs. But the limbs thoroughly dressed with warm pants shock their modesty. Such opposition to the pants, which are positively modest, and which protect the limbs from exposure and chilliness, should be supported by sensible reason." (Health Reformer, May 1, 1872)

"We cannot, if we would, conceal the fact that women have feet and limbs that were made for use. But in regard to the exposure, this is on the other side of the question. We have traveled extensively the past twenty-five years, and have been eye-witnesses to many indecent exposures of the limbs. But the most common exposure is seen upon the streets in light snow, or wet and mud. Both hands are required to elevate the dress, that it may clear the wet and filth. It is a common thing to see the dress raised one-half of a yard [18 inches/50 cm]exposing an almost unclad ankle to the sight of gentlemen, but no one seems to blush at this immodest exposure. No one's sensitive modesty seems shocked for the reason that this is customary. It is fashion, and for this reason it is endured. No outcry of immodesty is heard, although it is so in the fullest sense." (Health Reformer, May 1, 1872)

Jewelry banned

"Not one penny should be spent for a circlet of gold to testify that we are married." (Special Testimony to Ministers and Workers, No. 3, 1895).

"To dress plainly, abstaining from display of jewelry and ornaments of every kind, is in keeping with our faith." Testimonies, Vol. 3, p. 366

College students cannot date?

"The infatuation which is upon you is more satanic than divine. I do not wish to have you disappointed in regard to Battle Creek. The rules are strict there. No courting is allowed. The school would be worth nothing to students were they to become entangled in love affairs as you have been. Our college would soon be demoralized." Testimonies, Vol. 5, p. 109

"Self Abuse" (masturbation is sin = an abomination) banned

"They do not realize the exceeding sinfulness of this degrading sin..." (Testimonies Vol. 2, p. 347)
"This vice was shown me as an abomination in the sight of God." (Appeal to Mothers, p. 25)

If the stomach is not properly cared forthe formation of an upright, moral character will be hindered." —Testimonies, vol. 9, p. 160.

But beware of that which the old writers called the world’s trinity—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. {Lt43-1898 (May 19, 1898) par. 25}

574. . . . The physical nature will be brought into conflict with the spiritual nature. . . . He [God] cannot enlighten the mind of a man who makes a cesspool of his stomach. He does not hear the prayers of those who are walking in the light of the sparks of their own kindling." —Counsels on Health, p.

Do not go to physicians

"If any among us are sick, let us not dishonor God by applying to earthly physicians, but apply to the God of Israel. If we follow his directions (James 5:14, 15) the sick will be healed. God's promise cannot fail. Have faith in God, and trust wholly in him, that when Christ who is our life shall appear we may appear with him in glory." (To Those who are Receiving the Seal of the Living God, January 31, 1849)

"Women should be educated and qualified just as thoroughly as possible to become practitioners in the delicate diseases which afflict women, that their secret parts should not be exposed to the notice of men. ... It is a most horrible practice, this revealing the secret parts of women to men, or men being treated by women." (Kress Collection, p. 23)

Preparing food or shaving on the Sabbath breaks the 4th commandment

"The violation of the fourth commandment is not confined to the preparation of food. Many carelessly put off blacking their boots, and shaving, until after the beginning of the Sabbath. This should not be. If any neglect to do such work on a working day, they should have respect enough for God's holy time to let their beards remain unshaven, their boots rough and brown, until the Sabbath is past. This might help their memory, and make them more careful to do their own work on the six working days." (Signs of the Times,May 25, 1882)

Leave those dirty dishes in the sink!

"We would charge all not to wash their dishes on the Sabbath if this can possibly be avoided. God is dishonored by any unnecessary work done on His holy day. It is not inconsistent, but proper, that the dishes should be left unwashed till the close of the Sabbath, if this can be managed." (Letter 104, 1901)

No Swimming on Sabbath!

"Pleasure seeking, ball playing, swimming, was not a necessity, but a sinful neglect of the sacred day sanctified by Jehovah." (Letter 252, 1906)

Life Insurance

"I was shown that Sabbathkeeping Adventists should not engage in life insurance. This is a commerce with the world which God does not approve. Those who engage in this enterprise are uniting with the world, while God calls His people to come out from among them and to be separate. ... 'For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory.' Here is the only life insurance which heaven sanctions." (Testimonies Vol. 1, p. 549)

No formal schooling before age 8

"Parents should be the only teachers of their children until they have reached eight or ten years of age. ... The only schoolroom for children from eight to ten years of age should be in the open air amid the opening flowers and nature's beautiful scenery. And their only textbook should be the treasures of nature." (Testimonies, vol. 3, p. 137)

Living in the city frowned upon

"...the conditions of life in the city are constantly becoming more and more difficult. Serious troubles are before us, and for many families removal from the cities will become a necessity." (The Adventist Home, p. 136)

No membership in Labor Unions permitted

"These unions are one of the signs of the last days. Men are binding up in bundles ready to be burned. They may be church members, but while they belong to these unions, they cannot possibly keep the commandments of God; for to belong to these unions means to disregard the entire Decalogue." (Country Living, p. 11)

"Those who claim to be the children of God are in no case to bind up with the labor unions that are formed or that shall be formed. This the Lord forbids. Cannot those who study the prophecies see and understand what is before us?" (Letter 201, 1902)

No praying standing up!

"I have received letters questioning me in regard to the proper attitude to be taken by a person offering prayer to the Sovereign of the universe. Where have our brethren obtained the idea that they should stand upon their feet when praying to God? One who has been educated for about five years in Battle Creek was asked to lead in prayer before Sister White should speak to the people. But as I beheld him standing upright upon his feet while his lips were about to open in prayer to God, my soul was stirred within me to give him an open rebuke. Calling him by name, I said, 'Get down upon your knees.' This is the proper position always." (Selected Messages, Vol. 2, p. 311)
