Once Saved, Always Saved?

Jesus taught that the straight gate and narrow way or path that his followers are to enter into, leads to eternal life.

Matthew 7:14: - “Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”

Jesus taught that to enter into eternal life, one must keep the 10 Commandments.

Matthew 19:16 - 19: - “And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?  And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”

Jesus stated plainly that those who have followed him would inherit or receive eternal life in the regeneration, when he sits upon the throne of his glory, in the world to come.

Matthew 19:28 & 29: - “And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.”

Mark 10:29 & 30: - “And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, but he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions;and in the world to come eternal life.

Jesus will sit upon the throne of his glory after his 2nd Coming, and at that time the righteous will go into life eternal.

Matthew 25:31 & 46: - “When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:  … And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.”

The apostle John has defined a righteous person as someone who does righteousness.

1st  John 3:7: - “Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

The prophet Daniel stated that the dead in Christ would awake from their sleep in the dust of the earth, to receive eternal life.

Daniel 12:2: - “And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.”

Jesus plainly stated that the Son of God would resurrect from the grave all people through the two resurrections; those who have done good unto the resurrection of life; and those who have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation (i. e. condemnation).

John 5:25 - 29: - “Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; and hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man. Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.”

Jesus stated that those who believe on him unto eternal life, he will raise up from the dead at the last day.

John 6:40: - “And this is the will of him that sent me,that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

When Jesus comes the second time, he brings salvation with him.

Hebrews 9:28: - “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for himshall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

1st Peter 1:5 & 7 - 9: - “Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.  … That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

Isaiah 25:8 & 9: - “He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it. And it shall be said in that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the LORD; we have waited for him,we will be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”

1st Corinthians 15:54: - “So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.”

NOTE: - Putting the passages from Isaiah 25:8 & 9 & 1st  Corinthians 15:54 together, we can see that when this corruptible and mortal body puts on incorruption and immortality, then the saying written in the book of Isaiah,  “Death is swallowed up in victory”, shall be fulfilled. The righteous saints who will be waiting for their Lord to save them, “will be glad and rejoice in his salvation”, which the Lord will bringing to them at that time.

This is why Paul made the following significant statement that as the “Day of the Lord” draws near, our salvation is nearer than when we believed.Obviously our salvation was NOT finished when we first believed in Christ, but the 2nd Coming of Jesus Christ can only complete it.

Romans 13:11 & 12: - “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.”

F It is only at the 2nd Coming of Jesus Christ that the righteous actually come into possession of the reality of salvation and eternal life. Until that time, they have the hope of salvation and eternal life; and they have God’s promise of eternal life.

“And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.” – 1 John 2:25.
