Interesting meaning of Words in certain verses CONTINUED

AS OF 2013, WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN 120 YEARS OF WARNINGS LIKE NOAH WARNED THE Antediluvians (World of Darkness)!   If you start at 1843 (first midnight cry given to come/go out of all churches will be repeated) add 50 years, it comes to 1893, then add 120 years the year comes to 2013.

 the church was only pure for about 8-10 years as I understand it, but it was still God's church = at least he was still striving with it, as he does with individuals today until EGW said that they closed and bolted the door against Jesus in 1888, and that the church was in the laodicean state...foolish virgin state and was without God.

The SDA church became Laodicean in 1852,

"I understood that some were anxious to know if Mrs. White still held the same views that she did years ago when they had heard her speak in the sanitarium grove, in the Tabernacle, and at the camp meetings held in the suburbs of Battle Creek. I assured them that the message she bears today is the same that she has borne during the sixty years of her public ministry. She has the same service to do for the Master that was laid upon her in her girlhood. She receives lessons from the same Instructor. The directions given her are, "Make known to others what I have revealed to you. Write out the messages that I give you, that the people may have them." This is what she has endeavored to do."  {1SM 35.2}

Original Testimony No. 26, p. 4: - "Here is a work that has been subjected to the most rigid criticisms, and the most violent persecutions for the long period of twenty years, and yet remains unchanged. Had this work originated in the mind of an unsophisticated  woman, it would have  been forced  out of  its course long since and brought to confusion and to naught."
NOTE: - 1876  - by Elder James White. This statement has been deleted from the present edition of  4th  Testimony.

R. & H., April 19, 1906: - "I am not to retract one word of the message I have borne." {RH, April 19, 1906 par. 6}

"At the age of seventy-eight I am still toiling. We are all in the hands of the Lord. I trust in Him; for I know that he will never leave nor forsake those who put their trust in Him. I have committed myself to His keeping."  {1SM 35.4}

The pillars of our faith that were sustained by the pioneers over the 50 years before 1893-1894 are now accounted as error. Books of a new order have been written. A new organization established. And it is definitely a system of intellectual philosophy to believe that 1 equals 3 or 3 equals 1. Because it isn’t common sense. The foundation is built on sand as you can see, and the true God is removed and another stands in his place. They cannot have his spirit because they don’t know what it is. So their dependence is on human power alone. And they don’t like to talk about this doctrine because Satan has sought to destroy any chance at a true understanding of him which would give us “all things that pertain unto life and godliness”. This is eternal life to know God and his son.

"God’s ministers are symbolized by the seven stars, which He who is the first and the last has under His special care and protection." Gospel Workers 1915, p. 13.3

If you would be a saint in heaven, you must first be a saint on earth. The traits of character you cherish in life will not be changed by death or by the resurrection. You will come up from the grave with the same disposition you manifested in your home and in society. Jesus does not change the character at His coming (this is when you receive the finishing touch of immortality)The work of transformation must be done now. Our daily lives are determining our destiny. Last Day Events, p. 295.1

"The law is an expression of God’s idea. When we receive it in Christ, it becomes our idea. It lifts us above the power of natural desires and tendencies, above temptations that lead to sin. “Great peace have they which love thy law; and nothing shall offend them”—cause them to stumble. There is no peace in unrighteousness; the wicked are at war with God. But he who receives the righteousness of the law in Christ is in harmony with heaven.
As received in Christ, it [God’s law] works in us the purity of character that will bring joy to us through eternal ages." The Faith I Live By, p. 83.6

The appearance of fire signified the fervent zeal with which they would labor:

     "And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." The Holy Ghost assuming the form of tongues of fire divided at the tips, and resting upon those assembled, was an emblem of the gift which was bestowed upon them of speaking with fluency several different languages, with which they had formerly been unacquainted; and the appearance of fire signified the fervent zeal with which they would labor, and the power (character=thoughts and feelings) which would attend their words. {7Red 5.2

The work is under the control of the Author and Finisher of our faith.
He never leaves His work to chance.  This work is a great and solemn one, and it is to go forward. ....
The Lord knows better whom to select to do His work than do the wisest men, however interested they may be.  It is God who implants His Spirit in the hearts of young men, leading them to fight for Him against great odds.  Thus He inspired Paul of Tarsus, who fought with all his entrusted capabilities for Heaven's revealed truth, against apostates who ought to have upheld him.  God's servants will have today to meet the same difficulties that Paul met. ... God can use them to vindicate His law Selected Messages Book 2, p. 228.2

"The unity that exists between Christ and His disciples does not destroy the personality of either. In mind, in purpose, in character, they are one, but not in person. By partaking of the Spirit of God, conforming to the law of God, man becomes a partaker of the divine nature.Christ brings His disciples into a living union with Himself and with the Father. Through the working of the Holy Spirit upon the human mind, man is made complete in Christ Jesus. Unity with Christ establishes a bond of unity with one another. This unity is the most convincing proof to the world of the majesty and virtue of Christ, and of His power (Character=thoughts and feelings=even the "inclination" to sin) to take away sin." {Our Father Cares, p. 36.3}

3 Spirit of Prophecy, pp. 393,394

In the presentation of the truth, those who honestly desire to be right will be awakened to a diligent searching of the Scriptures. This will produce results similar to those that attended the labors of the apostles in Berea. But those who preach the truth in these days meet many who are the opposite of the Bereans. They cannot controvert (deny the truth) the doctrine presented to them, yet they manifest the utmost reluctance to investigate the evidence offered in its favor, and assume that even if it is the truth it is a matter of little consequence whether or not they accept it as such. They think that their old faith and customs are good enough for them. But the Lord, who sent out his ambassadors with a message to the world, will hold the people responsible for the manner in which they treat the words of his servants. God will judge all according to the light which has been presented to them, whether it is plain to them or not. It is their duty to investigate as did the Bereans. The Lord says through the prophet Hosea: "My people are
394
destroyed for lack of knowledge; because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee." {3SP 393.2}
The minds of the Bereans were not narrowed by prejudice, and they were willing to investigate and receive the truths preached by the apostles. If the people of our time would follow the example of the noble Bereans, in searching the Scriptures daily, and in comparing the messages brought to them with what is there recorded, there would be thousands loyal to God's law where there is one today. But many who profess to love God have no desire to change from error to truth, and they cling to the pleasing fables of the last days. Error blinds the mind and leads from God; but truth gives light to the mind, and life to the soul. {3SP 394.1}

    What does the glorification of Christ have to do with the sending of the Holy Spirit? This study examines this ...

Antioch "It was here that the disciples were first called Christians. This name was given them because Christ was the main theme of their preaching, teaching, and conversation."  Redemption: or the Teachings of Paul, and his Mission to the Gentiles, p. 4.1

The apostles, in this, their special work, were to be exposed to suspicion, prejudice, and jealousy. As a natural consequence of their departure from the exclusiveness of the Jews, their doctrine and views would be subject to the charge of heresy; and their credentials as ministers of the gospel would be questioned by many zealous, believing Jews. God foresaw all these difficulties which his servants would undergo, and, in his wise providence, caused them to be invested with unquestionable authority from the established church of God, that their work should be above challenge." Redemption: or the Teachings of Paul, and his Mission to the Gentiles, p. 6.1

Laodicean:Lukewarm or halfhearted, esp. with respect to religion or politics.
Noun: A person with such an attitude.
Synonyms: indifferent

All Laodicea—all “poor, miserable, blind, and naked.”  The Laodicean = the Pharisee!

A SUMMARY OF THE SPIRIT AND DOCTRINES OF THE PHARISEES: -

1.       Jesus warned his disciples against the doctrines of the Pharisees –Matthew 16:5, 6 & 12.

2.       Pharisees are self-righteous, self-exalted and self-confident. Their worship is represented by Cain’s bloodless offering – without Christ. They believe that they are saved, holy and without sin – Luke 18:9 – 14; Christ’s Object Lessons, pp. 150 – 155; R. & H., June 6, 1878 & May 21, 1908.

3.       They teach for doctrines, the commandments and traditions of men, and multiply man made rules and regulations.

4.       The leaders set up their own “Landmarks”, which closes the door against the entrance of God’s advancing truth.

5.       The teachings of the leaders must be obeyed at all costs.

6.       This spirit leads to trying to rule and control others. The leaders are looked up to by the people, to decide what is truth or error for them. It results in putting the leaders in the place of God.

7.       They try to control and dictate, how and through whom God will work. It God should choose others, not from their ranks, they will reject and despise those whom God is using.

8.       Those who teach doctrines not in harmony with the leaders’ creed, will be criticized, opposed, slandered, and finally murdered, as Jesus and his apostles were. Cain, who was the first Pharisee did this to righteous Abel – Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 152. The Pharisees manifest the spirit of Satan, and are the accusers of Jesus’ brethren – Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 151.

9.       The Laodicean = the Pharisee!

Why Christ spews the lukewarm Laodicean out of His mouth

"To those who are indifferent at this time Christ's warning is: 'Because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of My mouth.' Revelation 3:16. The figure of spewing out of His mouth means that He cannot offer up your prayers or your expressions of love to God. he cannot endorse your teaching of His word or your spiritual work in anywise. He cannot present your religious exercises with the request that grace be given you." 6 Testimonies, p. 408

"As soon as the views of these people were crossed, they manifested a stubborn, self-righteous spirit that rejected all instruction. Though professing great humility, they were boastful in their sophistry of sanctification, and resisted all appeals to reason. We felt that all our efforts to convince them of their error were useless, as they took the position that they were not learners but teachers.” (LS88 p. 209)

“Today we hesitate to claim we’re the remnant; but as for Laodicea, that’s us! Us alone!...No other Christian group vies with us for the dubious privilege of being identified with it....claiming exclusive rights to Laodicea is not politically incorrect. So, unchallenged, we've become anchored in the view that Seventh-day Adventists are the sole group envisioned in the apocalyptic concept of that term.” Adventist Review, August 28, 2008, p 5.

"If the church of God becomes lukewarm [LAODICEAN], it does not stand in favour with God any more than do the churches that are represented as having fallen and become the habitation of devils and the hold of every foul spirit and the cage of every unclean and hateful bird." Letter 35, 1898, p. 6-7

"So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth." Revelation 3:16

Revelation 3:15
I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!

Revelation 3:17
You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.

Zechariah 11:5
Their buyers slaughter them and go unpunished. Those who sell them say, 'Praise the LORD, I am rich!' Their own shepherds do not spare them.

Revelation 3:17
You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.

Ezekiel 34:2
"Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy and say to them: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Woe to you shepherds of Israel who only take care of yourselves! Should not shepherds take care of the flock?

"If the church of God becomes LUKEWARM [LAODICEAN] it does not stand in favor with God any more than do the churches that are represented as having fallen and become the habitation of devils and the hold of every foul spirit and the cage of every unclean and hateful bird. Those who have had opportunities to hear and receive the truth, and who have united with the Seventh-day Adventist church, calling themselves the commandment keeping people of God, and yet possess no more vitality and consecration to God than do the nominal churches, will receive of the plagues of God just as verily as the churches who oppose the law of God." E.G. White, Letter 35, 1898.

I guess that is why, “I saw them look up to the throne, and pray, "Father, give us Thy Spirit." Satan would then breathe upon them an unholy influence; in it there was light and much power, but no sweet love, joy, and peace. Satan's object was to keep them deceived and to draw back and deceive God's children.” {EW 56.1}

Someone else take those prayers, and all the while the lukewarm think their praying to God.

Any connection with infidels and unbelievers which would identify us with them is forbidden by the word. We are to come out from them and be separate. In no case are we to link ourselves with them in their plans or work.  E.G. White, FE 482.

The apostle Paul sends down the note of warning along the line to this time. "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty." (2 Cor. 6:14-18) {LYL 83.4}

Corporate Responsibility for Open Sin in the Church

"For evils that we might have checked, we are just as responsible as if we were guilty." Desire of Ages, p. 44.

"The plain straight testimony must live in the church, or the curse of God will rest upon His people as surely as it did upon ancient Israel because of their sins. God holds His people, as a body [corporately], responsible for the sins existing in individuals among them." Testimonies, vol. 3, p. 269.

"When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity but his blood will I require at thine hand. Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity but thou hast delivered thy soul." Ezekiel 3:18-19.

Implications of Ecumenical Involvement

A commonly heard refrain by us reformers is:  “Well, so what if the church is ecumenically involved.  We have to come close to others in order to win them to the truth.”

You know something friends?  That statement is not all untrue.  For it is true that we have to come close to others in order to win them.  Jesus came close to sinners in order to win them.  The question is:  Would Jesus join Satan’s Synagogue in order to win ANYONE?  The answer to that question is an emphatic no! if we believe the admonitions of the Word. There are good reasons God warned us three times that we would be broken in pieces if we Associated, Counsel, Gird and/or Confederate with my enemies and I will break you in pieces, to wit:

9 Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces. 10 Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us. 11 For the LORD spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying, 12 Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid. 13 Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. Isaiah 8:9-13.

“No confederacy should be formed with unbelievers, neither should you call together a certain chosen number who think as you do, and who will say Amen to all that you propose, while others are excluded who you think will not be in harmony. I was shown that there was great danger of doing this.” {TM 462.2}

"For the Lord spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying, Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid. Sanctify the Lord of hosts Himself; and let Him be your fear, and let Him be your dread. . . . To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." The world is not to be our criterion. Let the Lord work, let the Lord's voice be heard.’ {TM 463.1}

What is wrong with liaisons with Satanic forces?  The instruction is in the question!  Would Christ co-labor with Satan?  Try to imagine Christ joining Satan’s Associations, Councils, Girdings and Confederacies.

Satan always has his own agenda for those who join his confederacies. For example, the World Council of Churches stipulates that its members will not steal sheep and will evangelize only the unchurched.  That is at total cross purposes with the mission and commission of the three angel’s messages which the SDA church is supposed to give to the entire world.

The church has ceded to the stipulations of the World Council of Churches and its various National Councils and Associations on paper, by signing their edicts, but we all know that the church then violates those edicts.  That will eventually infuriate Satan and his Babylonian forces and this will be the reason the Babylonians wield the slaughter weapons of Ezekiel 9 against the professing SDA church militant in the end of it all.

We must stay close to Jesus, to ensure we don’t end up in this condition.

“You think, that those who worship before the saint’s feet, (Rev 3:9), will at last be saved. Here I must differ with you; for God shewed me that this class were professed Adventists, who had fallen away, and “crucified to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put Him to an open shame.” And in the “hour of temptation,” which is yet to come, to show out every one’s true character, they will know that they are forever lost; and overwhelmed with anguish of spirit, they will bow at the saint’s feet.” (EGW A Word to the Little Flock, page 12)

Did you catch that.  Those Jews who say they are and are not are actually “professed Adventists” the “synagogue of Satan”.  In other words “nominal Adventists”.

This is referring to the “hour of temptation” otherwise known as “the time of trouble” which she says “is yet to come”.  Those who say they are Jews and are not refers to “professed Adventists”.  We have our Gods name written on our forehead. The name of the God of Jesus.  The fathers name.

This quote is referring to the time of trouble when professed Adventists acknowledge Philadelphia as the remnant true church.   The rock (truth) that smites the image on the feet. The feet mixed with iron and clay (paganism and Christianity). https://sites.google.com/site/theendtimewarning/who-are-the-remnant-of-god

Carefully read the characteristics of the 144,000 in this next verse.

They are the characteristics of Philadelphia. Rev 14:1 And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Zion, and with him a hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads. Get the oil for your lamp.  You know that the General Conference of Adventists admits they are Laodicea.

“Today we hesitate to claim we’re the remnant; but as for Laodicea, that’s us! Us alone!...No other Christian group vies with us for the dubious privilege of being identified with it....claiming exclusive rights to Laodicea is not politically incorrect. So, unchallenged, we’ve become anchored in the view that Seventh-day Adventists are the sole group envisioned in the apocalyptic concept of that term.” Adventist Review, August 28, 2008, p 5.

So the General Conference of Seventh Day Adventists are pretty sure of who they are.  They are Laodicea.  And they are unchallenged about this.

But what does the Spirit of Prophecy say in regards to the Laodicean Church.

The Presence of God not in her midst

“Those who claim to believe the truth do not possess that power that God would bestow upon them if they really believed, and were striving for conformity to His image. The church is in the Laodicean state. The presence of God is not in her midst.” (EGW Notebook Leaflets, page 99 MS 166 1898)

Wait a second.

The presence of God is not in her midst.

"To the end of time, the presence of the Spirit is to abide with the true church." Acts of the Apostles, p. 55

But the presence of God according to the above quote will never leave the true church?   If the Conference is Laodicea and the presence of God is not in Laodicea then we can conclude that the conference is not Gods “true church”.  So where then can we find the “presence of God”?

“God has a church. It is not the great cathedral, neither is it the national establishment, neither is it the various denominations; it is the people who love God and keep His commandments. “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matt. 18:20). Where Christ is even among the humble few, this is Christ’s church, for the presence of the High and Holy One who inhabiteth eternity can alone constitute a church” (The Upward Look, p. 315).

So the presence of God dwells in his true church and his presence alone can constitute a church.  Therefore since Gods presence isn’t in Laodicea, then Laodicea is not a real church.  It is a counterfeit.

Foolish virgins standing outside the door

“The state of the church represented by the foolish virgins is also spoken of as the Laodicean state.” (EGW Review and Herald, August, 1890)There are ten virgins waiting for the bridegroom but how many are saved? The fact that they are all virgins suggest that they come from the virgin or pure church. But they divide and the five foolish virgins never get in and are represented as Laodicea. They are outside knocking to get in. "An open and shut door".  Present truth. Hear what the spirit saith to the church.

Changing the subject to avoid acknowledging the truth

"Some have thought it an evidence of intellectual keenness and superiority to perplex minds in regard to what is truth. They resort to subtlety of argument, to playing upon words; they take unjust advantage in asking questions. When their questions have been fairly answered, they will turn the subject [and] bring up another point to avoid acknowledging the truth. We should beware of indulging the spirit which controlled the Jews. They would not learn of Christ, because His explanation of the Scriptures did not agree with their ideas; therefore they became spies upon His track, 'laying wait for Him, and seeking to catch something out of His mouth, that they might accuse Him.' Let us not bring upon ourselves the fearful denunciation of the Saviour's words, 'Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered." Testimonies to Ministers, pp. 108,109

"In every period of this earth’s history, God has had His men of opportunity, to whom He has said, “Ye are My witnesses.” In every age there have been devout men, who gathered up the rays of light as they flashed upon their pathway, and who spoke to the people the words of God. Enoch, Noah, Moses, Daniel, and the long roll of patriarchs and prophets,—these were ministers of righteousness. They were not infallible; they were weak, erring men; but the Lord wrought through them as they gave themselves to His service.Gospel Workers 1915, p. 13.3

"These precious jewels shine with continually increasing luster, not alone for time, but for eternity. Although dead, the words and deeds of the righteous of all ages testify to the truth of God. The names of the martyrs for Christ's sake are immortalized among the angels in Heaven; and a bright reward awaits them when the Life-giver shall call them from their graves." Life of Christ Redemption Series #8 last paragraph

Reinforce the Message With Literature—The days in which we live are times that call for constant vigilance, times in which God’s people should be awake to do a great work in presenting the light on the Sabbath question.... This last warning to the inhabitants of the earth is to make men see the importance God attaches to His holy law. So plainly is the truth to be presented that no transgressor, hearing it, shall fail to discern the importance of obedience to the Sabbath commandment....

There is work for all to do in order that the simple truths of the Word of God may be made known. The words of Scripture should be printed and published just as they read. It would be well if the nineteenth and the greater portion of the twentieth chapters of Exodus, with verses twelve to eighteen of the thirty-first chapter, were printed just as they stand. Crowd these truths into small books and pamphlets, and let the word of God speak to the people. When a discourse concerning the law is preached that is right to the point, if you have any means of doing so, get it into a printed leaflet. Then when those who plead for Sunday laws meet you, place these leaflets in their hands. Tell them that you have no discussion over theSunday question, for you have a plain “Thus saith the Lord” for the keeping of the seventh day.The Review and Herald, March 26, 1908.

LIFE ETERNAL = John 17:3 For this is "LIFE ETERNAL" - "Eternal life is the receiving of the living elements in the Scriptures . . . for the Words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit and they are Life . . . the doing of the will of God. This is what is meant by eating the flesh and drinking the blood of the Son of God. It is the privilege of all to partake of the Bread of heaven by studying the Word, and thus gain spiritual sinew and muscle. YE SHALL RECEIVE POWER, PAGE 127  "Without the Spirit of God a knowledge of His word is of no avail. The theory of truth, unaccompanied by the Holy Spirit, cannot quicken the soul or sanctify the heart. One may be familiar with the commands and promises of the Bible; but unless the Spirit of God sets the truth home, the character will not be transformed. Without the enlightenment of the Spirit, men will not be able to distinguish truth from error, and they will fall under the masterful temptations of Satan." {COL 408.3} "Those who have despised the divine grace that is at their command, that would have qualified them to be the inhabitants of heaven, will be the foolish virgins. They had all the light, all the knowledge, but they failed to obtain the oil of grace; they did not receive the truth in  its sanctifying power." {RH, August 19, 1890 par. 8}

Half-dead Christianity, the selfish, covetous spirit of the world, sharing its ungodliness and smiling on its falsehood?—Nay!

"Selfishness is strange fire." "Selfishness is a demon whose name is legion"  "Judas was possessed of the demon of selfishness."  RH May 12, 1903, par. 13S.D.A. Bible Commentary Vol. 5, p. 1102.2

Selfishness is a demon whose name is legion (it is manifest in a thousand ways); in every age it has seemed that this demon would drive Christ and the spirit of self-sacrifice out of the world. Through it’s influence the church is weak when it ought to be a power. Who shall tell how many souls have been robbed of the gospel (Glad Tidings) of Christ by the apathy (selfish lack of interest) of Christians in withholding means and personal effort? The church has thus put out her own light, and has become the by-word of infidelsBEcho February 12, 1894, par. 5

Selfishness exists everywherein hearts where it is least suspected. It is this curse of selfishness, in the various phases in which it is manifested, that makes so many joyless Christians. God has entrusted to them means to be used in building up His kingdom; but they are not using His gifts to His glory. They are not working in harmony with Christ; they are lovers of self more than lovers of God and His Word. This is why there is often contention in the church, until fault-finding, envy, jealousy, and strife for the supremacy become the native element. Inordinate self-love lies at the foundation of so much contention in the churches.

Eli's sons do to elicit such instant and mortal penalty? What is strange fire? SELFISHNESS.

  1. "The spirit of selfishness is strange fire (before the Lord) which should not be mingled with God’s sacred service." HM June 1, 1897, Art. A, par. 16

  2. "Selfishness is a demon whose name is legion (it is manifest in a thousand ways); in every age it has seemed that this demon would drive Christ and the spirit of self-sacrifice out of the world." BEcho February 12, 1894, par. 5

  3. "Judas was possessed of the demon of selfishness."  RH May 12, 1903, par. 13S.D.A. Bible Commentary Vol. 5, p. 1102.2

Christ knew, when He permitted Judas to connect with Him as one of the twelve, that Judas was possessed of the demon of selfishness. He knew that this professed disciple would betray Him, and yet He did not separate him from the other disciples, and send him away. He was preparing the minds of these men for His death and ascension, and He foresaw that should He dismiss Judas, Satan would use him to spread reports that would be difficult to meet and explain.

Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil ?” John 6:70 & Job 1:6

The leaders of the Jewish nation were watching and searching for something that they could use to make of no effect the Words of Christ. The Saviour knew that Judas, if dismissed, could so misconstrue and mystify His statements that the Jews would accept a false version of His Words, using this version to bring terrible harm to the disciples, and to leave on the minds of Christ's enemies the impression that the Jews were justified in taking the attitude that they did toward Jesus and His disciples.

Christ did not, therefore, send Judas from His presence, but kept him by His side, where He could counteract the influence that he might exert against His work.” Review & Herald, May 12, 1903 (5BC p.1102)

The Significance of Christ's Victory -

      After His baptism, Christ was led of the Spirit into the wilderness. He had taken humanity upon Himself, and Satan boasted that he would overcome Him, just as he had overcome the strong men of the past ages, and he assailed Him (Jesus, Yehushua) with the temptations that had caused man's downfall.

      It was in this world that the great conflict between Christ and Satan was to be decided. If the tempter could succeed in overcoming Christ in even one point, the world must be left to perish. Satan would have power to br-uise the heel of the Son of God; but the Seed of the woman was to bruise the serpent's head: Christ was to baffle the prince of the powers of darkness. ref: Genesis 3:15

      For forty days Christ fasted in the wilderness. What was this for? Was there anything in the character of the Son of God that required such great humiliation and suffering? No, He was sinless. All this humiliation and keen anguish were endured for the sake of fallen man, and never can we comprehendthe grievous character of the sin of indulging perverted appetite except as we comprehend the spiritual meaning of the long fast of the Son of God.

      Never can we understand the strength and bondage of appetite until we discern the character of the Saviour's conflict in overcoming Satan, and thus placing all man (kind) on vantage ground, where, through the merit (worthiness) of the blood of Christ, he (we) may be able to resist the powers of darkness, and overcome in his (our) own behalf !

     After this long fast, Christ was in a famishing condition, and in His weakness Satan assailed Him with the fiercest temptations. “The devil said unto Him, If Thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.” Matthew 3:17- 4:11. Satan represented himself as the messenger of God (an angel of light), claiming that God had seen the willingness of the Saviour to place His feet in the path of self-denial, and that He was not requ-ired to suffer further humiliation and pain, but might be released from the terrible conflict that was before Him as the Redeemer of the world.

          Satan (he) tried to persuade Him that God designed only to test His fidelity, that now His loyalty was fully manifest, and He was at liberty to use His divine power to relieve His necessities. But Christ discerned the temptation, and declared, “It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word of God.”

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, but with the mouth, confession (to profess, speak out loud) is made unto Salvation ! . . . . And out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh . . . !”
Romans 10:8-12 & Matthew 12:34

When tempted to the unlawful gratification of appetite (carnal desire), you should remember the example of Christ, and stand firm, overcoming as Christ overcame. You should answer, saying, “Thus saith the LORD,” and in this way settle the question forever with the prince of darkness. If you parley with temptation, and use your own words, feeling self-sufficient, full of self-importance, you will be overcome. For the weapons which Christ used were the Words of God, “It is written;” and if you wield the Sword of the Spirit, you also may come off victorious through the merit of your Redeemer.”

“For the Words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are Life . . . !” John 6:63

From the book,  "Temperance" p.275-276

His Victory is yours today!

Of all the lessons to be learned from our Lord's first great temptation, none is more important than that bearing upon the control of the appetites and passions (desires). In all ages, temptations appealing to the physical nature have been most effectual in corrupting and degrading mankind. Through intemperance, Satan works to destroy the mental and moral powers that God gave to man as a priceless endowment. Thus it becomes impossi-ble for men to appreciate things of Eternal worth. Through sensual indulgence, Satan seeks to blot from the soul every trace of likeness to God.

The uncontrolled indulgence and consequent disease and degradation that existed at Christ's first advent, will again exist, with intensity of evil, before His second coming . . . !

- Desire of Ages p.122-123

Christ declares that the condition of the world will be as in the days before the flood, and as in Sodom and Gomorrah. Every imagination of the thoughts of the heart will be evil continually. Upon the very verge of that fearful time we are now living, and to us should come home the lesson of the Saviour's fast. Only by the inexpr-essible anguish which Christ endured, can we estimate the evil of unrestrained indulgence. His example declares that our only hope of eternal Life is through bringing the appetites and passions into subjection to the will of God.

Father, if Thou be willing, remove this cup from Me: nevertheless, not My willbut Thine be done . . .For I delight to do Thy will, Yea, Thy law is within My heart . . . !” Luke 22:42 & Psalm 40:8

In our own strength it is impossible for us to deny the clamors of our fallen nature. Through this channel Satan will bring temptation upon us. Christ knew that the enemy would come to every human being, to take adv-antage of hereditary weakness, and by his false insinuations to ensnare all whose trust is not in God. And (but) by passing over the ground which man must travel, our Lord has prepared the way for us to overcome. It is not His will that we should be placed at a disadvantage in the conflict with Satan. He would not have us intimidated and discouraged by the assaults of the serpent. “Be of good cheer,” He says; “I have overcome the world !”

Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the LORD of hosts . . . and the Words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are Life !”
Zechariah 4:6 & John 6:63

And this is the Victory which overcometh the world, even our faith . . .and faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God . . . !” I John 5:4 & Romans 10:17

Let him who is struggling against the power of appetite, look to the Saviour in the wilderness of temptation. See Him in His agony upon the cross, as He exclaimed, “I thirst.” He has endured all that it is possible for us to bear. His victory is ours !

Jesus rested upon the wisdom and strength of His Heavenly Father. He declared, “The Lord GOD (Adoni Yeh-ho-vee’) will help Me; therefore shall I not be confounded, . . . And I know that I shall not be ashamed. . . . Behold, the Lord God will help me !” Isaiah 50:7

Pointing to His Own example, He says to us, “Who is among you that feareth the LORD, . . . that walketh in darkness, and hath no Light? Let him trust in the name of the LORD (Jehovah, Yehuwah), and stay(rest, lean, support) upon his God (Elohim) !”

“The prince of this world cometh,” saith Jesus, “and hath nothing in Me.” There was in Him nothing that responded to Satan's sophistry. He did not consent to sin. Not even by a thought did He yield to temptation. So it may be with us.

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal (weak, fleshly), but mighty through God (Divinity), to the pulling down of strongholds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing (the spirits which now work in the children of disobedience) that exalteth (rises up) itself against the knowing of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the perfect obedience of Christ !” II Corinthians 10:4-5

Christ's humanity was united with Divinity; He was fitted for the conflict by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. And He came to make us partakers of the Divine nature. So long as we are united to Him by faith, sin has no more dominion over us! God reaches for the hand of faith in us to direct it to lay fast hold upon the Divinity of Christ, that we may attain to perfection of character.

Note:   for in Christ Jesus, God and man were reconciled, atonement was made - atonement = (at-one-ment)
and this was the reason Jesus (Yehushua) came to this earth, and was made in the likeness of sinful flesh, that He might reunite that which
was broken through sin (faithless transgression of our Father's promised Word) !

If ye abide in Me (the Word of God), and My Words . . . which are Spirit and Life . . . abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. For herein is My Father glorified . . . !” John 15:7-8

Temptations to the indulgence of appetite possess a power which can be overcome only by the help that God can (will) impartBut with every temptation we have the Promise of God that there shall be a way of escape. Why, then, are so many overcome? It is because they do not put their trust in God. They do not avail themselves of the means (power, strength and faith) provided for their safety . . . !”

- Testimony Studies on Diets & Foods p.152-154

“Christ came to make us “partakers of the divine nature,” and His life
declares that humanity, combined with Divinity, does not
commit (continue in) sin !

     "What shall we say then?  shall we continue in sin. so that grace may abound?
God forbid! How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?  Know ye not, that so many of us that were baptized into Jesus Christ,
were baptized into His death?  Therefore we are buried with Him by baptism unto death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory (ref:
Exodus 33:18-34:7) of The Father, even so we also should walk in newness of Life
 . . . !"   Romans 6:1-13,

ref:Galatians 2:20, II Corinthians 5:15 & Colossians 3:1-3

The Saviour overcame to show man how he may overcome. All the temptations of Satan, Christ met with the Word of God. By trusting inGod's Promises, He received power to obey God's commandments, and the tempter could gain no advantage.

To every temptation His answer was, “It is written.” So God has given us His Word wherewith to resist evil. Exceeding great and precious Promises are ours,that by these we “might be partakers of the Divine nature, having escaped the corruption (sin and death) that is in the world through lust.” II Peter 1:4

When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.
Hosea 11:1 (KJV)

This is another double prophecy. The children of Israel abode in Egypt one time for over 400 years. They went there to escape a severe famine in the land of Canaan. Joseph was second ruler to Pharaoh and encouraged his father and brethren to dwell close by in the land of
Goshen. After the death of Joseph and his brethren a king arose over Egypt who didn't know Joseph and had no regard for the children of Israel. Pharaoh grew to fear them because they multiplied so rapidly that he was afraid they would join the enemy and fight against them. He made them serve as slaves for 400 years until God had seen His people suffer enough and raised up Moses to deliver them and bring them out of Egypt.

This reference of bringing the children of Israel out of Egypt may be our first thought when we read the above passage.

We see though by reading the story in Matthew that after the wise men returned to their homeland thereby avoiding Herod, the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream instructing him to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt and stay until He brings them word again that they might leave. He warned Joseph that Herod would try to kill the young child.

This would make the prophecy come to pass about calling His Son out of Egypt.

And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou
there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. Matt 2:13-15 (KJV)

I never noticed this before but it was a Joseph that took the children of Israel into Egypt many years before and it was a Joseph that took Jesus into Egypt.
God used Egypt as a refuge many times (sometimes he uses heathen people to help his people) but He also warned against trusting in Egypt for help. God alone was to be their help and
supplier.

They stayed in Egypt until the death of Herod.

But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life. And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee: And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene. Matt 2:19-23 (KJV)

Egypt was a place of refuge many times but we see that God was not always pleased when His people trusted in Egypt. Egypt was a place that worshipped false gods and did not trust in the true and living God.

And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land. Gen 12:10 (KJV)

The first incidence of God's people going to Egypt for help was in the above verse when Abram went down to Egypt to escape a famine. This may not have been a wise choice because we see later that Abram ran into trouble. Pharaoh not knowing that Sarah was a married woman tried to take her for himself but God intervened in that situation. It was very important that Sarah not be with any other than her husband because of the promised lineage of the Messiah that was to come through her.

And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar. And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of:
Gen 26:1-2 (KJV)

Another famine came years later and God instructed Isaac not to go into Egypt but that He would take care of Him.

Later we see that the son of Jacob, Joseph was sold as a slave was ended up in Egypt but God was with him. Later the whole tribe of Israel had to go into Egypt to escape a long severe famine.

Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin: That walk to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to trust in the shadow of Egypt! Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt your confusion. Isaiah 30:1-3 (KJV)

After God used Moses to deliver the people out of Egypt,
they were not to go backEgypt represented bondage and slavery. Sin is also a bondage. When we are living in sin we are actually slaves and are under bondage. We are lost and without God. God is calling us OUT of Egypt and slavery. We are to be free from sin.

When one of the Lord’s institutions falls into decay, the more prosperous institutions should work to the utmost of their ability in assisting the crippled institution, that the name of God be not dishonored. Whenever the managers of God’s institutions close their hearts to the necessities of sister institutions, and neglect to make every effort possible for their relief, selfishly saying, “Let them suffer,” God marks their cruelty, and the time will come when they will have to pass through a similar experience of humiliation. But, my brethren, you do not mean to do this. I know that you do not.

The 42 months or 1,260 days is also known as the 3.5 years of the "LITTLE TIME OF TROUBLE". The Dark Ages WILL BE REPEATED, only in 1,260 LITERAL DAYS instead of the day for a year which occurred 538 AD to 1798 AD. The little time of trouble started March 19, 2013 when Jesuit Pope Francis the eighth and final King of the Papacy was coronated and he started his reign according to Rev 13:5. His reign lasts for 42 months or 1,260 literal days, or 3.5 years which would make it come to September 19, 2016. Then the time of Jacobs trouble starts and should last for the space of 1/2 hour or 15 days, then Jesus will return.

Yet thou (Pope Francis) shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. And they that shall see the shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake the kingdoms" Isaiah 14:15-16

We are standing on the threshold of great and solemn events. Many of the prophecies are about to be fulfilled in quick succession. Every element of power is about to be set to work. Past history will be repeated; old controversies will arouse to new life, and peril will beset God's people on every side. Intensity is taking hold of the human family. It is permeating everything upon the earth. Study Revelation in connection with Daniel, for history will be repeated." - Testimonies to Ministers, p. 116 (emphasis added).

Deuteronomy 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law

Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets

Proverbs 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter

Just as the 3 wise men knew the time of Christ's first advent - his second birth into this world as a babe in Bethlehem. We lift up our heads and KNOW that our redemption draweth nigh! Luke 21:28 "And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh."

Account of Thy Stewardship?

      “Will a man rob God?

Yet ye have robbed Me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed Thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse; for ye have robbed Me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove Me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open unto you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a Blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it !” Malachi 3:8-10.

We have just entered upon a new year, but little more than a month of it having passed into eternity. What has been the record of this beginning of the year? Have you been recounting the mercies you have received of God? and have you brought your offerings to Him of the abundance He has bestowed upon you? Have you even brought all the tithes into the storehouse, thus returning to the LORD that which is His Own?

The property that God has entrusted to the stewardship of man, is not to be hoarded. O that men and women would arouse to this fact, and venture something (take opportunity to increase) for the Truth's sake. Trust in God should lead us to commit the keeping of our temporal matters to Him; but too much time is spent in calculating consequences.

And He called him and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest no longer be steward . . .” Luke 16:2

Worldly gain, laying up treasure on earth, is the mania. But Christ said, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal; butlay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal; for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also . . . !”

Matthew 6:19-21 & Luke 12:34

The worldly treasure is a lodestone to hold the thoughts and control the judgment. There are great pecuniary advantages to be gained by investing means in various worldly enterprises; and the great majority of Christian professors press on in this path. They pursue their own ends as eagerly as if to gain the world would entitle them to Eternal Life. They selfishly waste the substance entrusted to them, expending money needlessly for the grati-fication of pride.

Worldly requirements, --eating, dressing, recreation, the embellishment of their houses, --use up their means. And when their tithes and offerings are called for, and their energies are needed in work for their fellow-men, they withhold from God this proof of a love that He is every way worthy to receive; for the vital energies and the impulses of the soul have been exhausted in the struggle after worldly gain.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also . . . !” Luke 12:34

Selfishness contracts the heart; benevolence (kindness, charity, acts which seek no reward) expands it

The church has thus put out her own light, and has become the by-word of infidels.

Selfishness exists everywherein hearts where it is least suspected. It is this curse of selfishness, in the various phases in which it is manifested, that makes so many joyless Christians. God has entrusted to them means to be used in building up His kingdom; but they are not using His gifts to His glory. They are not working in har-mony with Christ; they are lovers of self more than lovers of God and His Word. This is why there is often con-tention in the church, until fault-finding, envy, jealousy, and strife for the supremacy become the native element. Inordinate self-love lies at the foundation of so much contention in the churches.

What has Jesus done to rescue a lost world from perdition (destruction)? He did not send an angel to redeem the fallen world; but for our sakes He became
a “man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.” The love of Christ --how deep, how broad, how full ! He designed to save man by His Own infinite Sacrifice. The cross of Calvary was to be to men a convincing argument that His interest and theirs were identical. When He ascended to heaven, and the portals of the city were thrown open to Him with rejoicing, His plea to the Father was, “I will that they also whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I Am, that they may behold [share] My glory.”
John 17:24.

Now those whom Christ calls His Own, whom He has sacrificed so much for, will not, cannot, enjoy anything selfishly. Their interest will be identified with that of their Redeemer. To every one of them will be given opport-uneities to show their love for His dear name by consecrating to Him themselves and the possessions He has loaned them on trust.

Jesus expects nothing less of them than that the claims of His kingdom, the boundless love He has manifested towards them, will awaken a response in their hearts, an interest that will overbalance every worldly consideration. There must be no cessation (pause, interruption) of benevolent acts (acts of selfless kindness). New chann-els for their outflow will be opening around us in this day of preparation for the great event, the coming of Christ in the clouds of heaven. Link after link they form a golden chain of love, binding heart to heart, and all hearts to Christ's great heart of infinite love.When this love takes possession of the heart, the plans devised to spread the Light of Truth and extend the Redeemer's kingdom will seem too small, the most costly offering too cheap. The icy spirit of selfishness will melt away, and in its place benevolence will well up like a Living Fountain to overflow and bless others !”

Get the Eyesalve!  -  Spiritual Discernment! Study! Pray like your life depends upon it, because it does!

Wise or foolish virgins who either buy of Jesus oil for their lamps and gold and either get the eyesalve or don't. One group goes with the bridegroom, the other is left out and becomes the Synagogue of Satan and is brought down to hell. True Adventists obey their Shepard's voice in Rev 18:4 the 2nd Angels message by "Coming out of ALL churches, My people." and by joining the Bridegroom's procession by going out (coming out of all churches) to meet Him.

Foolish virgins ("called virgins because they profess a pure faith." {COL 406.3}) are left out and become the Synagogue of Satan and are brought down to hell. "Many will stand in our pulpits with the torch of false prophecy in their hands, kindled from the hellish torch of Satan." Last Day Events, p. 179.3

Draw nigh and buy (zealously repent) that which you have lost—the gold of love and faith, and the white raiment which is the righteousness of Christ.

Righteousness of Christ = His Righteousness, His Merits = Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law."

"This was precious merchandizing actively carried on. The counsel of Christ to the Laodicean Church was being acted upon, and all who were feeling their poverty were buying [zealously repenting] gold (faith and love), white raiment (the righteousness of Christ), and eyesalve (true spiritual discernment)." RH November 8, 1956, par. 7

Broken and contrite mind/heart, humble and obedient Spirit

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

Says Christ, By renouncing your own self-sufficiencygiving up all things, however dear to youyou may buy the gold, the raiment, and the eyesalve that you may see.

God brings against ministers and people the heavy charge of spiritual feebleness, saying, “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see” (Revelation 3:15-18).

"At the call, the sleeping eyes are opened, and every one is aroused. They see the procession they are to join moving on, bright with torches and glad with music. Christ is the Son of GOD, by some Divine Act Christ was brought forth from the Father before creation. And the "Holy" Spirit proceeds from the Father, through the Son, making them both every-where present. Jesus gave up His omnipresence when He took human nature. So now He must dwell in us through the Holy Spirit. This is the same as we must do - God in Jesus, Jesus in Us, Us in Jesus, Jesus in God. (See John 14:20 & John 14:10, "I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you."   "That ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God."   Ephesians 3:14-19

     Do we really believe the Bible? Do we really believe that we may attain to the knowledge of God that is presented before us in this text? Do we believe every Word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God? Do we believe the Words that have been spoken by prophets and apostles, by Jesus Christ, Who is the Author of all Light and Blessing, and in Whom dwelleth all richness and fullness? Do we really believe in God, and in His Son?
     There are many who have a merely nominal faith, but this faith will not save you. Many believe in Christ because somebody else does, because the minister has told them this or that; but if you rest your faith only on the minister's word, you will be lost. You must not do as did the foolish virgins, who, when the cry came, "Behold, the bridegroom cometh," found no oil in their vessels. When they discovered their lack, they sought those who were wise, and applied to them for oil for their dying lights; but it was too late to supply them.

     The wise had only enough for their own use, and they told the foolish virgins they must go and buy oil for themselves. We all must buy oil for ourselves. We must not be content with a mere profession. We are to take a stand for the Truth (the Word of God) by profession, and the principles of Truth must become a part of our life.

     There are many who know nothing of the new birth. They do not know that the Truth will test them, and make manifest whether they really are in the Truth or not. We should see to it that we are not deceived. We should know that we are really rooted and grounded in the Truth.

The LORD wants us to have the fullness of His Blessing, that we may not be on the side of the questioner and the doubter, but have spiritual discernment, and be able to know the Voice of the True Shepherdfrom the voice of a stranger. We must have an individual experience. Do not flatter yourselves that because you have made a high profession, you are the light of the world. The question is, “Are you the Light of the world, or are you the darkness of the world ?”

     Light = the revealing of the glory and character of Almighty God !

     "For God, Who commanded the Light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light (revealing) of the knowledge (knowing) of the glory of God in the Face of Jesus Christ . . . !"     II Corinthians 4:6 & ref: Exodus 33:13-34:7

     All heaven has its expectation of you to whom the precious Light has been intrusted. The Light has shone upon you in clear, bright rays from the throne of the Living God. The question of most vital importance to each one is, “Is it well with my soul ?” It is not well with any one unless he has met and responded to the Light that Heaven has permitted to shine upon his mind. The Light of Truth (God’s Word) is more precious than anything besides; it is more precious than gold and silver. The most magnificent palaces are nothing in comparison to the Truth, and this Light is to test us and to make manifest of what spirit we are !

I guess that is why, “I saw them look up to the throne, and pray, "Father, give us Thy Spirit." Satan would then breathe upon them an unholy influence; in it there was light and much power, but no sweet love, joy, and peace (Jesus). Satan's object was to keep them deceived and to draw back and deceive God's children.” {EW 56.1}

"Those who have despised the divine grace that is at their command, that would have qualified them to be the inhabitants of heaven, will be the foolish virgins (unholy characters). They had all the light, all the knowledge, but they failed to obtain the oil of grace; they did not receive the truth in  its sanctifying power." {RH, August 19, 1890 par. 8}

"At the call, the sleeping eyes are opened, and every one is aroused. They see the procession they are to join moving on, bright with torches and glad with music. They hear the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride. The five wise virgins trim their lamps, and go forth to meet the bridegroom." {RH, October 31, 1899 par. 5}

“Strive to enter in at the strait gate.”—Luke 13:24.

The belated traveler, hurrying to reach the city gate by the going down of the sun, could not turn aside for any attractions by the way. His whole mind was bent on the one purpose of entering the gate. The same intensity of purpose, said Jesus, is required in the Christian life. I have opened to you the glory of character, which is the true glory of My kingdom. It offers you no promise of earthly dominion; yet it is worthy of your supreme desire and effort. I do not call you to battle for the supremacy of the world’s great empire, but do not therefore conclude that there is no battle to be fought nor victories to be won. I bid you strive, agonize, to enter into My spiritual kingdom.

The Christian life is a battle and a march. But the victory to be gained is not won by human power. The field of conflict is the domain of the heart. The battle which we have to fight—the greatest battle that was ever fought by man—is the surrender of self to the will of God, the yielding of the heart to the sovereignty of love. The old nature, born of blood and of the will of the flesh, cannot inherit the kingdom of God. The hereditary tendencies, the former habits, must be given up.

He who determines to enter the spiritual kingdom will find that all the powers and passions of an unregenerate nature, backed by the forces of the kingdom of darkness, are arrayed against him. Selfishness and pride will make a stand against anything that would show them to be sinful. We cannot, of ourselves, conquer the evil desires and habits that strive for the mastery. We cannot overcome the mighty foe who holds us in his thrall. God alone can give us the victory. He desires us to have the mastery over ourselves, our own will and ways. But He cannot work in us without our consent and co-operation. The divine Spirit works through the faculties and powers given to man. Our energies are required to co-operate with God.

The victory is not won without much earnest prayer, without the humbling of self at every step. Our will is not to be forced into co-operation with divine agencies, but it must be voluntarily submitted. Were it possible to force upon you with a hundredfold greater intensity the influence of the Spirit of God, it would not make you a Christian, a fit subject for heaven. The stronghold of Satan would not be broken. The will must be placed on the side of God’s will. You are not able, of yourself, to bring your purposes and desires and inclinations into submission to the will of God; but if you are “willing to be made willing,” God will accomplish the work for you, even “casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5. Then you will “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.” Philippians 2:12, 13.

But many are attracted by the beauty of Christ and the glory of heaven, who yet shrink from the conditions by which alone these can become their own. There are many in the broad way who are not fully satisfied with the path in which they walk. They long to break from the slavery of sin, and in their own strength they seek to make a stand against their sinful practices. They look toward the narrow way and the strait gate; but selfish pleasure, love of the world, pride, unsanctified ambition, place a barrier between them and the Saviour. To renounce their own will, their chosen objects of affection or pursuit, requires a sacrifice at which they hesitate and falter and turn back. Many “will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.” Luke 13:24. They desire the good, they make some effort to obtain it; but they do not choose it; they have not a settled purpose to secure it at the cost of all things.

The only hope for us if we would overcome is to unite our will to God’s will and work in co-operation with Him, hour by hour and day by day. We cannot retain self and yet enter the kingdom of God. If we ever attain unto holiness, it will be through the renunciation of self and the reception of the mind of Christ. Pride and self-sufficiency must be crucified. Are we willing to pay the price required of us? Are we willing to have our will brought into perfect conformity to the will of God? Until we are willing, the transforming grace of God cannot be manifest upon us." THOUGHTS FROM THE MOUNT OF BLESSING, PAGE 141

     TO ALL WHO ARE INTERESTED IN THE SERVICE OF GOD, AND THE PROGRESS OF THE CHURCH ON EARTH, THE HISTORY OF THE WORK OF THE APOSTLES FURNISHES A CHAPTER OF PECULIAR ATTRACTIONS. HISTORY, IT IS SAID, REPEATS ITSELF. SO THE EXPERIENCE OF THE CHURCH REPEATS ITSELF; AND IN THE EXPERIENCES OF THE APOSTLES WE READ, IN MANY PARTICULARS, OUR OWN. TO THOSE WHO HAVE READ THE SERIES OF PAMPHLETS ON THE LIFE OF CHRIST, BY THE SAME AUTHOR, WE NEED SAY NOTHING ABOUT THE CHASTE AND IMPRESSIVE STYLE IN WHICH THE MATTER IS PRESENTED, NOR THE NEW AND STRIKING THOUGHTS WHICH BY THE CASUAL THINKER WOULD BE UNPERCEIVED. WE COMMEND THIS TO THE READER AS A VALUABLE HELP IN UNDERSTANDING THE LESSONS THE SCRIPTURES WOULD TEACH US IN WHAT THEY HAVE RECORDED OF THE LIVES AND EXPERIENCES OF THESE SERVANTS OF GOD.

The Apostles of Christ

                       The Pentecost.

     When Jesus opened the understanding of the disciples to the meaning of the prophecies concerning himself, he assured them that all power was given him in Heaven and on earth, and bade them go preach the gospel to every creature. The disciples, with a sudden revival of their old hope that Jesus would take his place upon the throne of David at Jerusalem, inquired, "Wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?" The Saviour threw an uncertainty over their minds in regard to the subject, by replying that it was not for them "to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power."  {7Red 3.1}
     The disciples began to hope that the wonderful descent of the Holy Ghost would influence the Jewish people to accept Jesus. The Saviour forbore to farther explain, for he knew that when the Holy Spirit should come upon them in full measure their minds would be illuminated and they would fully understand the work before them, and take it up just where he had left it.  {7Red 3.2}
     The disciples assembled in the upper chamber, uniting in supplications with the believing women,
                                                                           4
with Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. These brethren, who had been unbelieving, were now fully established in their faith by the scenes attending the crucifixion, and by the resurrection and ascension of the Lord. The number assembled was about one hundred and twenty. While they were awaiting the descent of the Holy Ghost, they supplied the office left vacant by Judas. Two men were selected, who, in the careful judgment of the believers, were best qualified for the place. But the disciples, distrusting their ability to decide the question farther, referred it to One that knew all hearts. They sought the Lord in prayer to ascertain which of the two men was more suitable for the important position of trust, as an apostle of Christ. The Spirit of God selected Matthias for the office.  {7Red 3.3}
     Both men who had been selected were considered to be persons of stern integrity, and in every way worthy of the vacant position; but notwithstanding the disciples were intimately acquainted with them, they felt that their own judgment was imperfect, and trusted the selection only to the Lord, whose eyes could read the hidden secrets of the heart. There is a lesson for our time in this occurrence. Many who are apparently well qualified to labor for God, are urged into the ministry, without a proper consideration of their case, and at length become a grievous burden to the church instead of burden-bearers. If the church of the present time would act as cautiously and wisely as did the apostles in filling the vacancy among them, much perplexity and serious injury, might be saved the cause of God. The work has often suffered much by
                                                                           5
putting persons forward to do that which they were not capable of doing.  {7Red 4.1}
     After filling the vacancy in the apostolic number, the disciples gave their time to meditation and prayer, being often in the temple, testifying of Christ, and praising God. The Pentecost was a feast celebrated seven weeks after the passover. Upon these occasions the Jews were required to repair to the temple and to present the first-fruits of all the harvest, thus acknowledging their dependence on the great Giver of all good, and their obligation to render back to God, in gifts and offerings to sustain his cause, that which he had intrusted to them. On this day of divine appointment, the Lord graciously poured out his Spirit on the little company of believers, who were the first-fruits of the Christian church.  {7Red 5.1}
     "And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one placeAnd suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." The Holy Ghost assuming the form of tongues of fire divided at the tips, and resting upon those assembled, was an emblem of the gift which was bestowed upon them of speaking with fluency several different languages, with which they had formerly been unacquainted; and the appearance of fire signified the fervent zeal with which they would labor, and the power which would attend their words.
                                                                           6
 {7Red 5.2}
     Under this heavenly illumination, the scriptures which Christ had explained to them, stood forth in their minds with the vivid luster and loveliness of clear and powerful truth. The vail which had prevented them from seeing the end of that which was abolished was now removed, and the object of Christ's mission and the nature of his kingdom were comprehended with perfect clearness.  {7Red 6.1}
     The Jews had been scattered to almost every nation, and spoke various languages. They had come long distances to Jerusalem, and had temporarily taken up their abode there, to remain through the religious festivals then in progress, and to observe their requirements. When assembled, they were of every known tongue. This diversity of languages was a great obstacle to the labors of God's servants in publishing the doctrine of Christ to the uttermost parts of the earth. That God should supply the deficiency of the apostles in a miraculous manner was to the people the most perfect confirmation of the testimony of these witnesses for Christ. The Holy Spirit had done for them that which they could not have accomplished for themselves in a lifetime; they could now spread the truth of the gospel abroad, speaking with accuracy the language of those for whom they were laboring. This miraculous gift was the highest evidence they could present to the world that their commission bore the signet of Heaven.  {7Red 6.2}
     "And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own
                                                                           7
language. And they were all amazed, and marveled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galileans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?"  {7Red 6.3}
     The priests and rulers were greatly enraged at this wonderful manifestation, which was reported throughout all Jerusalem and its vicinity; but they dared not give way to their malice, for fear of exposing themselves to the hatred of the people. They had put the Master to death, but here were his servants, unlearned men of Galilee, tracing out the wonderful fulfillment of prophecy, and teaching the doctrine of Jesus in all the languages then spoken. They spoke with power of the wonderful works of the Saviour, and unfolded to their hearers the plan of salvation in the mercy and sacrifice of the Son of God. Their words convicted and converted thousands who listened. The traditions and superstitions inculcated by the priests were swept away from their minds, and they accepted the pure teachings of the Word of God.  {7Red 7.1}
     The priests and rulers, determined to account for the miraculous power of the disciples in some natural way, declared that they were simply drunken from partaking largely of the new wine prepared for the feast. Some of the most ignorant seized this suggestion as the truth; but the more intelligent knew that it was false; and those speaking the different languages testified to the accuracy with which they were used by the disciples. And Peter, in answer to the vile accusation of the priests, addressed the assembly in these words:--  {7Red 7.2}
     "Ye men of Judea, and all ye that dwell at
                                                                           8
Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words; for these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel: And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams."  {7Red 7.3}
     The effect of Peter's words was very marked; and many who had ridiculed the religion of Jesus were now convinced of its truth. It was certainly unreasonable to suppose that more than one hundred persons should become intoxicated at that unseasonable hour of the day, and on the occasion of a solemn religious festival. This wonderful demonstration was before the customary meal at which wine was taken. Peter showed them that this manifestation was the direct fulfillment of the prophecy of Joel, wherein he foretold that such power would come upon men of God to fit them for a special work.  {7Red 8.1}
     Peter traced back the lineage of Christ in a direct line to the honorable house of David. He did not use any of the teachings of Jesus to prove his true position, because he knew their prejudices were so great that it would be of no effect. But he referred them to David, whom the Jews regarded as a venerable patriarch of their nation.  {7Red 8.2}
     On that memorable occasion, large numbers who had heretofore ridiculed the idea of so unpretending a person as Jesus being the Son of God, became thoroughly convinced of the truth, and acknowledged him as their Saviour. Three
                                                                           9
thousand souls were added to the church. The apostles spoke by the power of the  Holy Ghost; and their words could not be controverted, for they were confirmed by mighty miracles, wrought by them through the outpouring of the Spirit of God. The disciples were themselves astonished at the results of this visitation, and the quick and abundant harvest of souls. All the people were filled with amazement. Those who did not yield their prejudice and bigotry were so over-awed that they dared not by voice or violence attempt to stay the mighty work, and, for the time being, their opposition ceased.  {7Red 8.3}
     This testimony in regard to the establishment of the Christian church is given us, not only as an important portion of sacred history, but also as a lesson. All who profess the name of Christ should be waiting, watching, and praying with one heartAll differences should be put away, and unity and tender love one for another pervade the whole. Then our prayers may go up together to our Heavenly Father with strong, earnest faith. Then we may wait with patience and hope the fulfillment of the promise.  {7Red 9.1}
     The answer may come with sudden velocity and overpowering might; or it may be delayed for days and weeks, and our faith receive a trial. But God knows how and when to answer our prayer. It is our part of the work to put ourselves in connection with the divine channel. God is responsible for his part of the work. He is faithful who hath promised. The great and important matter with us is to be of one heart and mind, putting aside all envy and malice, and, as humble supplicants, to watch and wait. Jesus, our Representative and Head, is ready to
                                                                           10
do for us what he did for the praying, watching ones on the day of Pentecost.  {7Red 9.2}
     Jesus is as willing to impart courage and grace to his followers today as he was to the disciples of the early church. None should rashly invite an opportunity to battle with the principalities and powers of darkness. When God bids them engage in the conflict it will be time enough; he will then give the weak and hesitating boldness and utterance beyond their hope or expectation.  {7Red 10.1}
     The same scorn and hatred that was manifested against Christ may be seen now to exist against those whom he has evidently chosen to be his co-workers. Those whose spirits rise up against the doctrines of truth make hard work for the servants of Christ. But God will make their wrath to praise him; they accomplish his purpose by stirring up minds to investigate the truth. God may allow men to follow their own wicked inclinations for a time, in opposing him; but when he sees it is for his glory, and the good of his people, he will arrest the scorners, expose their presumptive course, and give triumph to his truth.  {7Red 10.2}
     The arguments of the apostles alone, although clear and convincing, would not have removed the prejudice of the Jews which had withstood so much evidence. But the Holy Ghost sent those arguments home with divine power to their hearts. They were as sharp arrows of the Almighty, convicting them of their terrible guilt in rejecting and crucifying the Lord of glory. "Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus
                                                                           11
Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."  {7Red 10.3}
     The disciples and apostles of Christ had a deep sense of their own inefficiency, and with humiliation and prayer they joined their weakness to his strength, their ignorance to his wisdom, their unworthiness to his righteousness, their poverty to his inexhaustible wealth. Thus strengthened and equipped they hesitated not in the service of their Master.  {7Red 11.1}
     Peter urged home upon the convicted people the fact that they had rejected Christ because they had been deceived by the priests and rulers; and if they continued to look to them for counsel, and waited for those leaders to acknowledge Christ before they dared to do so, they would never accept him. Those powerful men, although they made a profession of sanctity, were ambitious, and zealous for riches and earthly glory. They would never come to Christ to receive light. Jesus had foretold a terrible retribution to come upon that people for their obstinate unbelief, notwithstanding the most powerful evidences given them that Jesus was the Son of God.  {7Red 11.2}
     "Then they that gladly received his word were baptized; and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul; and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles."  {7Red 11.3}
     From this time forth the language of the disciples was pure, simple, and accurate in word and accent, whether they spoke their native tongue or a foreign language. These humble men, who
                                                                           12
had never learned in the school of the prophets, presented truths so elevated and pure as to astonish those who heard them. They could not go personally to the uttermost parts of the earth; but there were men at the feast from every quarter of the world, and the truths received by them were carried to their various homes, and published among their people, winning souls to Christ.  {7Red 11.4}

               The Cripple Healed.

     A short time after the descent of the Holy Spirit, and immediately after a season of fervent prayer, Peter and John, going up to the temple to worship, saw a distressed and poverty-stricken cripple, forty years of age, who had known no other life than one of pain and infirmity. This unfortunate man had long desired to go to Jesus and be healed; but he was almost helpless, and was removed far from the scene of the great Physician's labors. Finally his earnest pleadings induced some kind persons to bear him to the gate of the temple. But upon arriving there he discovered that the Healer, upon whom his hopes were centered, had been put to a cruel death.  {7Red 12.1}
     His disappointment excited the pity of those who knew how long he had eagerly hoped and expected to be healed by Jesus, and they daily brought him to the temple, that the passers-by might be moved to give him a trifle to relieve his present wants. As Peter and John passed, he begged charity from them. The disciples regarded him with compassion. "And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us." "Silver and gold have I none; but such
                                                                           13
as I have give I thee. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk."  {7Red 12.2}
     The poor man's countenance had fallen when Peter declared his own poverty, but grew bright with hope and faith as the disciple continued. "And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up; and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. And all the people saw him walking and praising God. And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him."  {7Red 13.1}
     The Jews were astonished that the disciples could perform miracles similar to those of Jesus. He, they supposed, was dead, and they had expected all such wonderful manifestations to cease with him.Yet here was this man who had been a helpless cripple for forty years, now rejoicing in the full use of his limbs, free from pain, and happy in believing upon Jesus.  {7Red 13.2}

Chapter 25: Talents

Based on Matt. 25:13-30

Giving Account.—Davis Collection.
Christ on the Mount of Olives had spoken to His disciples of His second advent to the world. He had specified certain signs that were to show when His coming was near, and had bidden His disciples watch and be ready. Again He repeated the warning, "Watch therefore; for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh." Then He showed what it means to watch for His coming. The time is to be spent, not in idle waiting, but in diligent working. This lesson He taught in the parable of the talents.

"The kingdom of heaven," He said, "is as a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey."

The man traveling into a far country represents Christ, [p. 326] who, when speaking this parable, was soon to depart from this earth to heaven. The "bondservants" (R.V.), or slaves, of the parable, represent the followers of Christ. We are not our own. We have been "bought with a price" (1 Cor. 6:20), not "with corruptible things, as silver and gold, . . . but with the precious blood of Christ" (1 Peter 1:18, 19); "that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto Him which died for them, and rose again" (2 Cor. 5:15).

All men have been bought with this infinite price. By pouring the whole treasury of heaven into this world, by giving us in Christ all heaven, God has purchased the will, the affections, the mind, the soul, of every human being. Whether believers or unbelievers, all men are the Lord's property. All are called to do service for Him, and for the manner in which they have met this claim, all will be required to render an account at the great judgment day.

But the claims of God are not recognized by all. It is those who profess to have accepted Christ's service who in the parable are represented as His own servants.

Christ's followers have been redeemed for service. Our Lord teaches that the true object of life is ministry. Christ Himself was a worker, and to all His followers He gives the law of service—service to God and to their fellow men. Here Christ has presented to the world a higher conception of life than they had ever known. By living to minister for others, man is brought into connection with Christ. The law of service becomes the connecting link which binds us to God and to our fellow men.

To His servants Christ commits "His goods"—something to be put to use for Him. He gives "to every man his work." Each has his place in the eternal plan of heaven. Each is to work in co-operation with Christ for the salvation [p. 327] of souls. Not more surely is the place prepared for us in the heavenly mansions than is the special place designated on earth where we are to work for God.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit

The talents that Christ entrusts to His church represent especially the gifts and blessings imparted by the Holy Spirit. "To one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: but all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as He will." 1 Cor. 12:8-11. All men do not receive the same gifts, but to every servant of the Master some gift of the Spirit is promised.

Before He left His disciples, Christ "breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost." John 20:22. Again He said, "Behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you." Luke 24:29. But not until after the ascension was the gift received in its fullness. Not until through faith and prayer the disciples had surrendered themselves fully for His working was the outpouring of the Spirit received. Then in a special sense the goods of heaven were committed to the followers of Christ. "When He ascended up on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men." Eph. 4:8, 7. "Unto every one of us is given grace, according to the measure of the gift of Christ," the Spirit "dividing to every man severally as He will." 1 Cor. 12:11. The gifts are already ours in Christ, but their actual possession depends upon our reception of the Spirit of God. [p. 328]

The promise of the Spirit is not appreciated as it should be. Its fulfillment is not realized as it might be. It is the absence of the Spirit that makes the gospel ministry so powerless. Learning, talents, eloquence, every natural or acquired endowment, may be possessed; but without the presence of the Spirit of God, no heart will be touched, no sinner be won to Christ. On the other hand, if they are connected with Christ, if the gifts of the Spirit are theirs, the poorest and most ignorant of His disciples will have a power that will tell upon hearts. God makes them the channel for the outworking of the highest influence in the universe.

Other Talents

The special gifts of the Spirit are not the only talents represented in the parable. It includes all gifts and endowments, whether original or acquired, natural or spiritual. All are to be employed in Christ's service. In becoming His disciples, we surrender ourselves to Him with all that we are and have. These gifts He returns to us purified and ennobled, to be used for His glory in blessing our fellow men.

To every man God has given "according to his several ability." The talents are not apportioned capriciously. He who has ability to use five talents receives five. He who can improve but two, receives two. He who can wisely use only one, receives one. None need lament that they have not received larger gifts; for He who has apportioned to every man is equally honored by the improvement of each trust, whether it be great or small. The one to whom five talents have been committed is to render the improvement of five; he who has but one, the improvement of one. God expects returns "according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not." 2 Cor. 8:12. [p. 329]

In the parable he that had "received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents; and likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two."

The talents, however few, are to be put to use. The question that most concerns us is not, How much have I received? but, What am I doing with that which I have? The development of all our powers is the first duty we owe to God and to our fellow men. No one who is not growing daily in capability and usefulness is fulfilling the purpose [p. 330] of life. In making a profession of faith in Christ we pledge ourselves to become all that it is possible for us to be as workers for the Master, and we should cultivate every faculty to the highest degree of perfection, that we may do the greatest amount of good of which we are capable.

The Lord has a great work to be done, and He will bequeath the most in the future life to those who do the most faithful, willing service in the present life. The Lord chooses His own agents, and each day under different circumstances He gives them a trial in His plan of operation. In each true-hearted endeavor to work out His plan, He chooses His agents not because they are perfect but because, through a connection with Him, they may gain perfection.

God will accept only those who are determined to aim high. He places every human agent under obligation to do his best. Moral perfection is required of all. Never should we lower the standard of righteousness in order to accommodate inherited or cultivated tendencies to wrong-doing. We need to understand that imperfection of character IS SIN. All righteous attributes of character dwell in God as a perfect, harmonious whole, and every one who receives Christ as a personal Saviour is privileged to possess these attributes.

And those who would be workers together with God must strive for perfection of every organ of the body and quality of the mind. True education is the preparation of the physical, mental, and moral powers for the performance of every duty; it is the training of body, mind, and soul for divine service. This is the education that will endure unto eternal life.

Of every Christian the Lord requires growth in efficiency and capability in every line. Christ has paid us our wages, even His own blood and suffering, to secure [p. 331] our willing service. He came to our world to give us an example of how we should work, and what spirit we should bring into our labor. He desires us to study how we can best advance His work and glorify His name in the world, crowning with honor, with the greatest love and devotion, the Father who "so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16.

But Christ has given us no assurance that to attain perfection of character is an easy matter. A noble, all-round character is not inherited. It does not come to us by accident. A noble character is earned by individual effort through the merits and grace of Christ. God gives the talents, the powers of the mind; we form the character. It is formed by hard, stern battles with self. Conflict after conflict must be waged against hereditary tendencies. We shall have to criticize ourselves closely, and allow not one unfavorable trait to remain uncorrected.

Let no one say, I cannot remedy my defects of character. If you come to this decision, you will certainly fail of obtaining everlasting life. The impossibility lies in your own will. If you will not, then you can not overcome. The real difficulty arises from the corruption of an unsanctified heart, and an unwillingness to submit to the control of God.

Many whom God has qualified to do excellent work accomplish very little, because they attempt little. Thousands pass through life as if they had no definite object for which to live, no standard to reach. Such will obtain a reward proportionate to their works.

Remember that you will never reach a higher standard than you yourself set. Then set your mark high, and step by step, even though it be by painful effort, by self-denial and sacrifice, ascend the whole length of the ladder [p. 332] of progress. Let nothing hinder you. Fate has not woven its meshes about any human being so firmly that he need remain helpless and in uncertainty. Opposing circumstances should create a firm determination to overcome them. The breaking down of one barrier will give greater ability and courage to go forward. Press with determination in the right direction, and circumstances will be your helpers, not your hindrances.

Be ambitious, for the Master's glory, to cultivate every grace of character. In every phase of your character building you are to please God. This you may do; for Enoch pleased Him though living in a degenerate age. And there are Enochs in this our day.

Stand like Daniel, that faithful statesman, a man whom no temptation could corrupt. Do not disappoint Him who so loved you that He gave His own life to cancel your sins. He says, "Without Me ye can do nothing." John 15:5. Remember this. If you have made mistakes, you certainly gain a victory if you see these mistakes and regard them as beacons of warning. Thus you turn defeat into victory, disappointing the enemy and honoring your Redeemer.

A character formed according to the divine likeness is the only treasure that we can take from this world to the next. Those who are under the instruction of Christ in this world will take every divine attainment with them to the heavenly mansions. And in heaven we are continually to improve. How important, then, is the development of character in this life.

The heavenly intelligences will work with the human agent who seeks with determined faith that perfection of character which will reach out to perfection in action. To everyone engaged in this work Christ says, I am at your right hand to help you. [p. 333]

As the will of man co-operates with the will of God, it becomes omnipotent. Whatever is to be done at His command may be accomplished in His strength. All His biddings are enablings. Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 332.3

Grace = Divine Assistance: "Love to Christ will always be seen in those who are laborers together with God. The common, earthly thoughts and motives are discarded as the love for Christ increases. None, however weak in faith and hope and courage, need to despair, for Christ has provided divine assistance to combine with man’s human effort." The Upward Look, p. 296.4 & My Life Today, p. 37.4 & The Colporteur Evangelist, p. 9.2Gospel Workers 1892, p. 288.2

Christ is the Son of GOD, by some Divine Act Christ was brought forth from the Father before creation. And the "Holy" Spirit proceeds from the Father, through the Son, making them both every-where present. Jesus gave up His omnipresence when He took human nature. So now He must dwell in us through the Holy Spirit  This is the same as we must do - God in Jesus, Jesus in Us, Us in Jesus, Jesus in God. (See John 14:20 & John 14:10, "I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you." "Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works."

Who
we worship, what kind of a God we
 adore and praise, has tremendous consequences to our understanding of
God’s love, the integrity of His character, and the power of His salvation.

trim their lamps - Studying the Bible/SOP and praying. Entire consecration to God puts to an end all vain, foolish suppositions and imaginations.—Manuscript 80, 1905, Aug. 24, 1904, “Arise and Trim Your Lamps! O ye wise Virgins, arise and trim your lamps: for behold the Bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

"The oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit." CHRIST’S OBJECT LESSONS, PAGE 407 If all were willing to receive, all would become filled with His Spirit.

We are to believe that we are chosen of God to be saved by the exercise of faith, through the grace of Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit; and we are to praise and glorify God for such a marvellous manifestation of his unmerited favour. It is the love of God that draws the soul to Christ to be graciously received and presented to his Father. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, the divine relationship between God and the sinner is renewed. Our Heavenly Father says, “I will be to them a God, and they shall be to Me a people. I will exercise forgiving love towards them, and bestow upon them my joy. They shall be to Me a peculiar treasure; for this people whom I have formed for myself shall show forth my praise.”

Christ is calling souls to come unto Him, and it is for our present and eternal interest to hear and respond to the call. Jesus says, “Ye have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you.” Then let all who would be called children of God respond to the invitation of Christ, and place themselves where the light of heaven will shine upon them, where they will realise what it is to be hearers and doers of the words of Christ, what it is to follow the Light of the world, and be accepted in the Beloved.

Everything that God could do has been done for the salvation of man. In one rich gift He poured out the treasures of heaven. He invites, He pleads, He urges; but He will not compel men to come unto Him. He waits for their co-operation. He waits for the consent of the will, that He may bestow upon the sinner the riches of his grace, reserved for him from the foundation of the world. A man does not build himself into an habitation for the Spirit, and unless there is a co-operation of man’s will with God’s will, the Lord can do nothing for him. Though the Lord is the great Master-worker, yet the human agent has his part to act with the divine worker, or the heavenly building cannot be completed. All the power is of God; yet all the responsibility rests with the human agent, for God can do nothing without the co-operation of man. The Lord does not design that human power should be paralysed; but that by co-operation with God, man may become a more efficient agent in his hands. Though weak, erring, frail, sinful, and imperfect, the Lord holds out to man the privilege of co-partnership with Himself.

Believing in Jesus as his personal Saviour, accepting of his righteousness by faith, the sinner becomes a partaker of the divine nature, and escapes the corruption that is in the world through lust. It is through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that the Christian is enabled to resist temptation and to work righteousness. Without the divine nature, without the influence of the Spirit of God, man cannot work out his own salvation; for God must work in him to will and to do of his good pleasure. Christ has said, “Without Me ye can do nothing.”

The fallen race could be restored only through the merit of Him who was equal with God. Though so highly exalted, Christ consented to take upon Him human nature, that He might work in behalf of man, and reconcile to God his disloyal subject. Christ pleads his merit in our behalf. As our substitute and surety, He undertook to combat the powers of darkness in our behalf, and prevailed against the enemy of our souls, presenting to us the cup of salvation. The Prince of Life consented to bear insult and mockery, pain and death. Upon the cross of Calvary He paid redemption’s price for a lost world. It was the world that He loved, the one lost sheep that He would bring back to his fold. The cross of Calvary speaks the amazing love of God for the sinner. He valued him at an infinite price, giving his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. If the love of God fails to call forth a response from the human heart, if it fails to soften and subdue the soul, we are utterly lost. There is no reserve power through which to influence the sinner. Heaven’s richest gift has been freely offered for our acceptance. No greater manifestation of God’s love can be given than that which was given on Calvary’s cross. If the love of Christ does not melt and subdue the heart, by what means can man be reached? Have you failed to respond to the pleadings of his Spirit? Then no longer fortify your heart in hardness. Open the door of the heart to receive Christ, the best gift of Heaven. Let not cruel unbelief influence you to refuse the heaven-sent guest. Let not Christ say of you, “Ye will not come unto Me that ye might have life.” With loving entreaties He follows the sinner, pleading, “Turn ye, turn ye; for why will ye die?”

Mrs. E. G. White, Messenger April 26, 1893, par. 1

It is the privilege of every soul to be a living channel through which God can communicate to the world the treasures of His grace, the unsearchable riches of Christ. There is nothing that Christ desires so much as agents who will represent to the world His Spirit and character. There is nothing that the world needs so much as the manifestation through humanity of the Saviour’s love. All heaven is waiting for channels through which can be poured the holy oil to be a joy and blessing to human hearts.

That little word "join" in connection with this mysterious procession is significant, because it indicates that the wise virgins have to join something that they are not already part of. Just as the Testimony of Jesus teaches us that we have to join the church triumphant. You don't join something if you are already a part of it!

R. & H., Book 2, p. 530: - "Compassion beamed from his [that is, Christ - compiler] countenance, and his conduct was characterized by grace, humility, truth, and love. Every member of his church militant must manifest the same qualities, if he would join the church triumphant." {RH, November 17, 1891 par. 12}

"Those who think that the church militant is the church triumphant make a GREAT mistake." E.G. White, The Upward Look, 152.

The Saints an Obscure People Little Known to the Catholics

The Birth of the Remnant Church 1844-1894 = two groups. Wise or foolish virgins who either buy of Jesus oil for their lamps and gold and get the eyesalve or don't. One group goes with the bridegroom, the other is left out and is the Synagogue of Satan and is brought down to hell. True Adventists obey their Shepard's voice in Rev 18:4 the 2nd Angels message by "Coming out of ALL churches, My people." --Jesus Christ

Draw nigh and buy that which you have lost—the gold of love and faith, and the white raiment which is the righteousness of Christ.

Jesus invites us to buy of him:

·         buy; “be zealous and repent”.  We must buy; “be zealous and repent” of our lukewarm state. We must be awake to see our wrongs, and to search up our sins, and to zealously repent of them.

·         The gold he bids us buy of him is the gold of character. "it is character alone that god values."  the knowledge of god alone that can make us like god in character: “a knowledge of god is the foundation of all true education and of all true service. It is the only real safeguard against temptation.”  Through the knowledge of god and of his son, jesus christ, are given to the believer “all things that pertain unto life and godliness.” The gold that Jesus would have us buy of Him is gold tried in the fire; it is the gold of faith and love, that has no defiling substance mingled with it.

·         The eye salve is obtained by earnest seeking of the lord. We are to come to god confessing our sins and humbling our hearts before him. The eye salve is the true spiritual discernment that is so wanting among us, for spiritual things must be spiritually discerned {the Review and Herald, April 1, 1890}. The “eyesalve,” studying the Word of God, makes the conscience smart under its application; for it convicts of sin. He would anoint the blind eyes, that they may discover the holy character of God in His law, and understand the love of Christ, which is indeed gold tried in the fire. The eye is the sensitive conscience, the inner light, of the mind. Upon its correct view of things the spiritual healthfulness of the whole soul and being depends.

·         The white raiment is the righteousness of christ, the wedding garment which christ alone can give. The white raiment is the righteousness of Christ that may be wrought into the character. Purity of heart, purity of motive, will characterize everyone who is washing his robe, and making it white in the blood of the Lamb.

1909 -- “If ever there was a people who needed to pray most earnestly to god, if ever there was a people who needed to strip themselves of everything that is offensive to him, it is this people who profess to keep the commandments of god and to have the faith of jesus."  —{gcb june 6, 1909, par. 6}

“having received the faith of the gospel, ... The believer is to add to his character virtue, and thus cleanse the heart and prepare the mind for the reception of the knowledge of god. This knowledge is the foundation of all true education and of all true service. It is the only real safeguard against temptation; and it is this alone that can make one like god in character. Through the knowledge of god and of his son, jesus christ, are given to the believer “all things that pertain unto life and godliness.” No good gift is withheld from him who sincerely desires to obtain the righteousness of god.” —{Reflecting christ, page 314}

“What is the shame of this nakedness and poverty? It is the shame of clothing ourselves with self-righteousness, and of separating ourselves from God, when He has made ample provision for all to receive His blessing. Says Christ, By renouncing your own self-sufficiency, giving up all things, however dear to you, you may buy the gold, the raiment, and the eyesalve that you may see. We cannot purchase anything from God. It is only by grace, the free gift of God in Christ, that we are saved. Then what is it to buy the eternal treasure?—It is simply to give back to Jesus his own, to receive him into the heart by faith. It is cooperation with God; it is bearing the yoke with Christ; it is lifting his burdens. For our sakes he became poor, that we through his poverty might be made rich. The Lord Jesus laid aside his royal crown, he left his high command, he clothed his divinity with humanity, in order that through humanity he might uplift the human race.”  —{S.D.A. Bible Commentary Vol. 7, p. 965.2 }

This chapter is based on Matthew 25:1-13.

Christ with His disciples is seated upon the Mount of Olives. The sun has set behind the mountains, and the heavens are curtained with the shades of evening. In full view is a dwelling house lighted up brilliantly as if for some festive scene. The light streams from the openings, and an expectant company wait around, indicating that a marriage procession is soon to appear. In many parts ofthe East, wedding festivities are held in the evening. The bridegroom goes forth to meet his bride and bring her to his home. By torchlight the bridal party proceed from her father’s house to his own, where a feast is provided for the invited guests. In the scene upon which Christ looks, a company are awaiting the appearance of the bridal party, intending to join the procession.

Lingering near the bride’s house are ten young women robed in white. Each carries a lighted lamp and a small flagon for oil. All are anxiously watching for the appearance of the bridegroom. But there is a delay. Hour after hour passes; the watchers become weary and fall asleep. At midnight the cry is heard, “Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.” The sleepers, suddenly awaking, spring to their feet. They see the procession moving on, bright with torches and glad with music. They hear the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride. The ten maidens seize their lamps and begin to trim them, in haste to go forth. But five have neglected to fill their flasks with oil. They did not anticipate so long a delay, and they have not prepared for the emergency. In distress they appeal to their wiser companions saying, “Give us of your oil; for our lamps are going out.” (Margin.) But the waiting five, with their freshly trimmed lamps, have emptied their flagons. They have no oil to spare, and they answer, “Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.”

While they went to buy, the procession moved on, and left them behind. The five with lighted lamps joined the throng and entered the house with the bridal train, and the door was shut. When the foolish virgins reached the banqueting hall, they received an unexpected denial. The master of the feast declared, “I know you not.” They were left standing without, in the empty street, in the blackness of the night.

As Christ sat looking upon the party that waited for the bridegroom, He told His disciples the story of the ten virgins, by their experience illustrating the experience of the church that shall live just before His second coming.

The two classes of watchers represent the two classes who profess to be waiting for their Lord. They are called virgins because they profess a pure faith. By the lamps is represented the word of God. The psalmist says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto may path.”

Psalm 119:105. The oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. Thus the Spirit is represented in the prophecy of Zechariah. “The angel that talked with me came again,” he says, “and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep, and said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof; and two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof. So I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these, my lord? ... Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.... And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves? ... Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.” Zechariah 4:1-14.

From the two olive trees the golden oil was emptied through the golden pipes into the bowl of the candlestick, and thence into the golden lamps that gave light to the sanctuary. So from the holy ones that stand in God’s presence His Spirit is imparted to the human instrumentalities who are consecrated to His service. The mission of the two anointed ones is to communicate to God’s people that heavenly grace which alone can make His word a lamp to the feet and a light to the path. “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.” Zechariah 4:6.

In the parable, all the ten virgins went out to meet the bridegroom. All had lamps and vessels for oil. For a time there was seen no difference between them. So with the church that lives just before Christ’s second coming. All have a knowledge of the Scriptures. All have heard the message of Christ’s near approach, and confidently expect His appearing. But as in the parable, so it is now. A time of waiting intervenes, faith is tried; and when the cry is heard, “Behold, the Bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet Him,” many are unready. They have no oil in their vessels with their lamps. They are destitute of the Holy Spirit.

Without the Spirit of God a knowledge of His word is of no avail. The theory of truth, unaccompanied by the Holy Spirit, cannot quicken the soul or sanctify the heart. One may be familiar with the commands and promises of the Bible; but unless the Spirit of God sets the truth home, the character will not be transformed. Without the enlightenment of the Spirit, men will not be able to distinguish truth from error, and they will fall under the masterful temptations of Satan.

The class represented by the foolish virgins are not hypocritesThey have a regard for the truth, they have advocated the truth, they are attracted to those who believe the truth; but they have not yielded themselves to the Holy Spirit’s workingThey have not fallen upon the Rock, Christ Jesus, and permitted their old nature to be broken up. This class are represented also by the stony-ground hearers. They receive the word with readiness, but they fail of assimilating its principles. Its influence is not abiding. The Spirit works upon man’s heart, according to his desire and consent implanting in him a new nature; but the class represented by the foolish virgins have been content with a superficial work. They do not know God. They have not studied His character; they have not held communion with Him; therefore they do not know how to trust, how to look and live. Their service to God degenerates into a form. “They come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as My people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them; for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness.” Ezekiel 33:31. The apostle Paul points out that this will be the special characteristic of those who live just before Christ’s second coming. He says, “In the last days perilous times shall come: for men shall be lovers of their own selves; ... lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof.” 2 Timothy 3:1-5.

This is the class that in time of peril are found crying, Peace and safety. They lull their hearts into security, and dream not of danger. When startled from their lethargy, they discern their destitution, and entreat others to supply their lack; but in spiritual things no man can make up another’s deficiency. The grace of God has been freely offered to every soul. The message of the gospel has been heralded, “Let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” Revelation 22:17. But character is not transferable. No man can believe for another. No man can receive the Spirit for another. No man can impart to another the character which is the fruit of the Spirit’s working. “Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it [the land], as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.” Ezekiel 14:20.

It is in a crisis that character is revealed. When the earnest voice proclaimed at midnight, “Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him,” and the sleeping virgins were roused from their slumbers, it was seen who had made preparation for the event. Both parties were taken unawares; but one was prepared for the emergency, and the other was found without preparation. So now, a sudden and unlooked-for calamity, something that brings the soul face to face with death, will show whether there is any real faith in the promises of God. It will show whether the soul is sustained by grace. The great final test comes at the close of human probation, when it will be too late for the soul’s need to be supplied.

The ten virgins are watching in the evening of this earth’s history. All claim to be Christians. All have a call, a name, a lamp, and all profess to be doing God’s service. All apparently wait for Christ’s appearing. But five are unready. Five will be found surprised, dismayed, outside the banquet hall.

At the final day, many will claim admission to Christ’s kingdom, saying, “We have eaten and drunk in Thy presence, and Thou hast taught in our streets.” “Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Thy name? and in Thy name have cast out devils? and in Thy name done many wonderful works?” But the answer is, “I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from Me.” Luke 13:26; Matthew 7:22; Luke 13:27. In this life they have not entered into fellowship with Christ; therefore they know not the language of heaven, they are strangers to its joy. “What man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:11.

Saddest of all words that ever fell on mortal ear are those words of doom, “I know you not.” The fellowship of the Spirit, which you have slighted, could alone make you one with the joyous throng at the marriage feast. In that scene you cannot participate. Its light would fall on blinded eyes, its melody upon deaf ears. Its love and joy could awake no chord of gladness in the world-benumbed heart. You are shut out from heaven by your own unfitness for its companionship.

We cannot be ready to meet the Lord by waking when the cry is heard, “Behold, the Bridegroom!” and then gathering up our empty lamps to have them replenished. We cannot keep Christ apart from our lives here, and yet be fitted for His companionship in heaven.

In the parable the wise virgins had oil in their vessels with their lamps. Their light burned with undimmed flame through the night of watching. It helped to swell the illumination for the bridegroom’s honor. Shining out in the darkness, it helped to illuminate the way to the home of the bridegroom, to the marriage feast.

So the followers of Christ are to shed light into the darkness of the world. Through the Holy Spirit, God’s word is a light as it becomes a transforming power in the life of the receiver. By implanting in their hearts the principles of His word, the Holy Spirit develops in men the attributes of God. The light of His glory—His character—is to shine forth in His followers. Thus they are to glorify God, to lighten the path to the Bridegroom’s home, to the city of God, to the marriage supper of the Lamb.

The coming of the bridegroom was at midnight—the darkest hour. So the coming of Christ will take place in the darkest period of this earth’s history. The days of Noah and Lot pictured the condition of the world just before the coming of the Son of man. The Scriptures pointing forward to this time declare that Satan will work with all power and “with all deceivableness of unrighteousness.” 2 Thessalonians 2:9, 10. His working is plainly revealed by the rapidly increasing darkness, the multitudinous errors, heresies, and delusions of these last days. Not only is Satan leading the world captive, but his deceptions are leavening the professed churches of our Lord Jesus Christ. The great apostasy will develop into darkness deep as midnight, impenetrable as sackcloth of hair. To God’s people it will be a night of trial, a night of weeping, a night of persecution for the truth’s sake. But out of that night of darkness God’s light will shine.

He causes “the light to shine out of darkness.” 2 Corinthians 4:6. When “the earth was without form, and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep,” “the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light; and there was light.” Genesis 1:2, 3. So in the night of spiritual darkness, God’s word goes forth, “Let there be light.” To His people He says, “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.” Isaiah 60:1.

“Behold,” says the Scripture, “the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people; but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and His glory shall be seen upon thee.” Isaiah 60:2.

It is the darkness of misapprehension of God that is enshrouding the world. Men are losing their knowledge of His character. It has been misunderstood and misinterpreted. At this time a message from God is to be proclaimed, a message illuminating in its influence and saving in its power. His character is to be made known. Into the darkness of the world is to be shed the light of His glory, the light of His goodness, mercy, and truth.

This is the work outlined by the prophet Isaiah in the words, “O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God! Behold, the Lord God will come with strong hand, and His arm shall rule for Him; behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him.” Isaiah 40:9, 10.

Those who wait for the Bridegroom’s coming are to say to the people, “Behold your God.” The last rays of merciful light, the last message of mercy to be given to the world, is a revelation of His character of love. The children of God are to manifest His glory. In their own life and character they are to reveal what the grace of God has done for them.

The light of the Sun of Righteousness is to shine forth in good works—in words of truth and deeds of holiness.

Christ, the outshining of the Father’s glory, came to the world as its light. He came to represent God to men, and of Him it is written that He was anointed “with the Holy Ghost and with power,” and “went about doing good.” Acts 10:38. In the synagogue at Nazareth He said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He hath anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18, 19. This was the work He commissioned His disciples to do. “Ye are the light of the world,” He said. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14, 16.

This is the work which the prophet Isaiah describes when he says, “Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily; and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy rereward.” Isaiah 58:7, 8.

Thus in the night of spiritual darkness God’s glory is to shine forth through His church in lifting up the bowed down and comforting those that mourn.

All around us are heard the wails of a world’s sorrow. On every hand are the needy and distressed. It is ours to aid in relieving and softening life’s hardships and misery.

Practical work will have far more effect than mere sermonizing. We are to give food to the hungry, clothing to the naked, and shelter to the homeless. And we are called to do more than this. The wants of the soul, only the love of Christ can satisfy. If Christ is abiding in us, our hearts will be full of divine sympathy. The sealed fountains of earnest, Christlike love will be unsealed.

God calls not only for our gifts for the needy, but for our cheerful countenance, our hopeful words, our kindly handclasp. When Christ healed the sick, He laid His hands upon them. So should we come in close touch with those whom we seek to benefit.

There are many from whom hope has departed. Bring back the sunshine to them. Many have lost their courage. Speak to them words of cheer. Pray for them. There are those who need the bread of life. Read to them from the word of God. Upon many is a soul sickness which no earthly balm can reach nor physician heal. Pray for these souls, bring them to Jesus. Tell them that there is a balm in Gilead and a Physician there.

Light is a blessing, a universal blessing, pouring forth its treasures on a world unthankful, unholy, demoralized. So it is with the light of the Sun of Righteousness. The whole earth, wrapped as it is in the darkness of sin, and sorrow, and pain, is to be lighted with the knowledge of God’s love. From no sect, rank, or class of people is the light shining from heaven’s throne to be excluded.

The message of hope and mercy is to be carried to the ends of the earth. Whosoever will, may reach forth and take hold of God’s strength and make peace with Him, and he shall make peace. No longer are the heathen to be wrapped in midnight darkness. The gloom is to disappear before the bright beams of the Sun of Righteousness. The power of hell has been overcome.

But no man can impart that which he himself has not received. In the work of God, humanity can originate nothing. No man can by his own effort make himself a light bearer for God. It was the golden oil emptied by the heavenly messengers into the golden tubes, to be conducted from the golden bowl into the lamps of the sanctuary, that produced a continuous bright and shining light. It is the love of God continually transferred to man that enables him to impart light. Into the hearts of all who are united to God by faith the golden oil of love flows freely, to shine out again in good works, in real, heartfelt service for God.

In the great and measureless gift of the Holy Spirit are contained all of heaven’s resources. It is not because of any restriction on the part of God that the riches of His grace do not flow earthward to men. If all were willing to receive, all would become filled with His Spirit.

Did you get that? “What is the shame of this nakedness and poverty? “…of separating ourselves from God!” If we as a “professed” Adventist have rashly denied the BRIGHT light set up behind us {our historical SDA foundational doctrines} by rejecting the one and only true God, “professed” Adventists today are shamefully naked! Without God and His power! "Why is there so dim a perception of the true spiritual condition of the church?  Has not blindness fallen upon the watchmen standing on the walls of Zion?...Who can truthfully say, 'Our gold is tried in the fire; our garments are unspotted by the world'?  I saw our Instructor pointing to the garments of so-called righteousness.  Stripping them off, He laid bare the defilement beneath.  Then He {Christ} said to me: 'Can you not see how they have pretentiously covered up their defilement and rottenness of character?  'How is the faithful city become an harlot!  My Father's house is made a house of merchandise, A PLACE WHENCE THE DIVINE PRESENCE AND GLORY HAVE DEPARTED!'"  —{Testimonies, vol 8, p 248-250, April 21, 1903}

"Behold the Bridegroom cometh. Jesus turned from them with a frown. They had slighted and rejected him. Those who received the message were wrapped in a cloud of glory. They waited and watched and prayed to know the will of God. They greatly feared to offend him. I saw Satan and his angels seeking to shut this divine light from the people of God; but as long as the waiting ones cherished the light, and kept their eyes raised from earth to Jesus, Satan could have no power to deprive them of this precious light. The message given from heaven enraged Satan and his angels, and those who professed to love Jesus, but despised his coming, scorned and derided the faithful, trusting ones. But an angel marked every insult, every slight, every abuse they received from their professed brethren. Very many raised their voices to cry, Behold the Bridegroom cometh, and left their brethren who did not love the appearing of Jesus, and who would not suffer them to dwell upon his second coming. I saw Jesus turn his face from those who rejected and despised his coming, and then he bade angels lead his people out from among the unclean, lest they should be defiled. Those obedient to the messages stood out free and united. A holy and excellent light shone upon them. They renounced the world, tore their affections from it, and sacrificed their earthly interests. They gave up their earthly treasure, and their anxious gaze was directed to heaven, expecting to see their loved Deliverer. A sacred, holy joy beamed upon their countenances, and told of the peace and joy which reigned within. Jesus bade his angels go and strengthen them, for the hour of their trial drew onI saw that these waiting ones were not yet tried as they must beThey were not free from errors. And I saw the mercy and goodness of God in sending a warning to the people of earth, and REPEATED MESSAGES to bring them up to a point of time, to lead them to a diligent search of themselves, that they might divest themselves of errors which have been handed down from the heathen and papists. Through these messages God has been BRINGING OUT his people where he can work for them in greater power, and where they can keep ALL His commandments." —{Spiritual Gifts, Volume 1, Page 157}

“The eye salve is the true spiritual discernment that is so wanting among us, for spiritual things must be spiritually discerned.”
{The Review and Herald, April 1, 1890}.

Warning for those who think or say these words: “God is blessing me, so I must be doing all right. I have all, or most of the truth I need. I keep the Sabbath every week and help people.” Don’t think for a second that you are safe until you are standing in the City of God. If you think that you are pretty safe, you need to study more than anyone else. Talents are the material things and abilities God gives you, to work for Him. Don’t take it for granted it’s because you are righteous: Isaiah 45:5 "I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:" Psalm 18:32 "It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect." It is character alone that God values. In the greatness of their ignorance, in the poverty of their spirit, they feel that they have attained unto the measure of the full stature of men and women in Christ, when they are mere babes in understanding.

Says Christ, By renouncing your own self-sufficiency, giving up all things, however dear to you, you may buy the gold, the raiment, and the eyesalve that you may see.

Chapter 2 of the Rebellion of 1888

1.] THE SPIRIT OF 1888.

B.] THE PHARISEES – A REPEAT OF THE MOB THAT CONDEMNED AND CRUCIFIED JESUS.

                Throughout the writings of Sr. White dealing with the rebellion of 1888, the spirit of the Pharisees [who were Jewish church leaders] in the days of Jesus, was being repeated by the leaders of the rebellion in 1888. In the 1888 Materials alone, the messenger of the Lord, calls them Pharisees over 40 times! Sr. White goes so far, as to state, that had the rebels of 1888, been alive in the days of Christ’s first Advent, they would have rejected and crucified the Son of God, as the Pharisees of old did.

                In this SECTION I will also identify who are the modern day counterparts of the Pharisees, and some of their false doctrines and practices.

[NOTE: - To make this readable, only a small number of the many references to the Pharisees have been quoted.]

1888 Materials, pp. 92 – 94: - “You speak, dear brother, of that terrible conference, the last held in Battle Creek [The 1886 G. C. Session – compiler], while I was in Switzerland. That conference was presented to me in the night season. My guide said, "Follow me; I have some things to show you." He led me where I was a spectator of the scenes that transpired at that meeting. I was shown the attitude of some of the ministers, yourself in particular, at that meeting, and I can say with you, my brother, it was a terrible conference.  My guide then had many things to say which left an indelible impression upon my mind. His words were solemn and earnest. He opened before me the condition of the church at Battle Creek. I can only give here a meager portion of what was said to me. He stated that the church needed the "energy of Christ" -- that all must cling close to the Bible, for it alone can give a correct knowledge of God's will. A time of trial was before us, and great evils would be the result of the Phariseeism which has in a large degree taken possession of those who occupy important positions in the work of God.  He said that the work of Christ upon the earth was to undo the heavy burdens and let the oppressed go free, to break every yoke; and the work of His people must correspond with the work of Christ. He stretched out his arms toward Dr. Waggoner, and to you, Elder Butler, and said in substance as follows: "Neither have all the light upon the law, neither position is perfect." "Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart" [Ps. 97:11]. There are hundreds that know not why they believe the doctrines they do. Let all search the Scriptures diligently for themselves, and not be satisfied to have the leaders do it for them, else we shall be as a people in a position similar to that of the Jews in Christ's time--having plenty of machinery, forms, and customs, but bearing little fruit to God's glory. It is time for the church to realize her solemn privileges and sacred trust, and to learn from the great Teacher.” [Letter to G. I. Butler; October 14, 1888.]

IBID., pp. 165 & 166: - “Two years ago, while in Switzerland, I was addressed in the night season by a voice which said, "Follow me." I thought I arose, and followed my guide. I seemed to be in the Tabernacle at Battle Creek, and my guide gave instructions in regard to many things at the conference [The 1886 G. C. Session – compiler]. I will give in substance a few things that were said: "The Spirit of God has not had a controlling influence in this meeting. The spirit that controlled the Pharisees is coming in among this people, who have been greatly favored of God." …  I entreat you, brethren, be not like the Pharisees, who were blinded with spiritual pride, self-righteousness, and self-sufficiency, and who because of this were forsaken of God. For years I have been receiving instructions and warnings that this was the danger to our people. … There is positive danger that some who profess to believe the truth will be found in a position similar to that of the Jews.They take the ideas of the men they are associated with, not because by searching the Scriptures they conscientiously accept the teachings in doctrine as truth. I entreat you to make God your trust; idolize no man, depend upon no man. Let not your love of man hold them in places of trust that they are not qualified to fill to the glory of God; for man is finite and erring, liable to be controlled by his own opinions and feelings. Self-esteem and self-righteousness are coming in upon us, and many will fall because of unbelief and unrighteousness, for the grace of Christ is not ruling in the hearts of many.” [Ms. 15, 1888; November, 1888.]

IBID., p. 186: - “Our first meeting was not like any other General Conference I ever attended. The thought that some of our brethren ventured to entertain some ideas contrary to those of the leading brethren filled the minds of some of our brethren with such prejudice that they could not with any fairness even come to an investigation of the positions of our faith with anything like Christian feelings. It was more after the order developed by the priests and rulers and Pharisees in the days of Christ.” [Letter to W. M. Healey; December 9, 1888.]

IBID., p. 295: - “The different views in regard to the law in Galatians need not have produced any such exhibitions. I have not the slightest burden upon that subject. God has not inspired all this intense feeling over that subject. I have not a particle of burden on that subject. My only trouble is the position of those ministers who were at that conference who manifested so little of the spirit of Christ and possessed more largely the spirit which controlled the scribes and Pharisees which planned the betrayal and acted a prominent part in the trial of Christ, in false statements, in accusing of Christ and making Him appear before the people in the worst possible light.” [Letter to J. Fargo; May 2, 1889.]

IBID., pp. 332 & 333: - “External forms cannot take the place of inward piety. The Jewish teachers exalted themselves as righteous; they called all those who differed from them accursed, and closed the gates of heaven to them, declaring that those who had not learned in their schools were not righteous. But with all their criticisms and exactions, with all their forms and ceremonies, they were an offense to God. They looked down upon, and despised the very ones precious in the sight of the Lord. And among the people who claim to believe the doctrines of our faith are those also who are filled with Pharisaism.” [Letter to Howard Miller; June 2, 1889.]

R. & H., July 23, 1889: - “The True Witness says of a cold, lifeless, Christless church, "I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth." Mark the following words: "Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked." Here is represented a people who pride themselves in their possession of spiritual knowledge and advantages. But they have not responded to the unmerited blessings that God has bestowed upon them. They have been full of rebellion, ingratitude, and forgetfulness of God; and still he has dealt with them as a loving, forgiving father deals with an ungrateful, wayward son. They have resisted his grace, abused his privileges, slighted his opportunities, and have been satisfied to sink down in contentment, in lamentable ingratitude, hollow formalism, and hypocritical insincerity. With Pharisaic pride they have vaunted themselves till it has been said of them, "Thou sayest, I am rich and increased with goods, and have need of nothing.”"  {RH, July 23, 1889 par. 12}

1888 Materials, pp. 516 & 518: - “Now at that meeting were many different characters and as many different temperaments. There was a striving about words to no profit, and the spirit manifested was uncourteous, ungentlemanly, and not Christlike. I know that hearts were spotted and stained with sin, yet they were the most zealous and vehement in spirit in that meeting. Then how could there have been any fairness in decisions made at that meeting? I have been shown that it was the same ruling spirit that was revealed in the condemnation of Christ. When the Papists were in controversy with men who took their stand on the Bible for proof of doctrines they considered it a matter that only death could settle. I could see a similar spirit cherished in the hearts of our brethren and I would not give room to it for an hour. … In Minneapolis God gave precious gems of truth to His people in new settings. This light from heaven by some was rejected with all the stubbornness the Jews manifested in rejecting Christ, and there was much talk about standing by the old landmarks. But there was evidence they knew not what the old landmarks were. There was evidence and there was reasoning from the word that commended itself to the conscience; but the minds of men were fixed, sealed against the entrance of light, because they had decided it was a dangerous error removing the "old landmarks" when it was not moving a peg of the old landmarks, but they had perverted ideas of what constituted the old landmarks.” [Ms. 13, 1889.]

IBID., pp. 632 & 633: - “Now brethren, I have nothing to say, no burden in regard to the law in Galatians. This matter looks to me of minor consequence in comparison with the spirit you have brought into your faith. It is exactly of the same piece that was manifested by the Jews in reference to the work and mission of Jesus Christ.The most convincing testimony that we can bear to others that we have the truth is the spirit which attends the advocacy of that truth. If it sanctifies the heart of the receiver, if it makes him gentle, kind, forbearing, true and Christlike, then he will give some evidence of the fact that he has the genuine truth. But if he acts as did the Jews when their opinions and ideas were crossed, then we certainly cannot receive such testimony, for it does not produce the fruits of righteousness. Their own interpretations of Scripture were not correct, yet the Jews would receive no evidence from the revelation of the Spirit of God, but would, when their ideas were contradicted, even murder the Son of God. "These things will bear your consideration. Jesus found no place for the precious lessons He came to the world to give to those who would receive them. He represented the situation of the Scribes and Pharisees by old, dried-up skin bottles, that could not hold the new wine of His kingdom; and He had to make the bottles into which he could put the new wine. He found a place for His truth in the heart of a Samaritan woman, and she a sinner. He made a bottle for the wine of His kingdom when He called Matthew, the publican; He made bottles into which He could pour the new wine when He called the fishermen." [Letter to W. C. & Mary White; March 13, 1890.]

IBID., p. 911: - “And when I see my brethren stirred with anger against God's messages and messengers, I think of similar scenes in the life of Christ and the reformers. The reception given to God's servants in past ages is the same as the reception that those today receive through whom God is sending precious rays of light. The leaders of the people today pursue the same course of action that the Jews pursued. They criticize and ply question after question, and refuse to admit evidence, treating the light sent them in the very same way that the Jews treated the light Christ brought them.” [Ms. 30, 1890. Read at the 1891 General Conference Session; March, 1891.]

R. & H., March 20, 1894: - “When God's people are one in the unity of the Spirit, all of Phariseeism, all of self-righteousness, which was the sin of the Jewish nation, will be expelled from all hearts. …  The remnant church is called to go through an experience similar to that of the Jews; and the true Witness, who walks up and down in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks, has a solemn message to bear to his people. He says: "I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent." … A legal religion has been thought quite the correct religion for this time. But it is a mistake. The rebuke of Christ to the Pharisees is applicable to those who have lost from the heart their first love.

1888 Materials, p. 1324: - “Just as soon as a man separates from God so that his heart is not under the subduing power of the Holy Spirit, the attributes of Satan will be revealed, and he will begin to oppress his fellowmen. An influence goes forth from him that is contrary to truth and justice and righteousness. This disposition is manifested in our institutions, not only in the relation of workers one to another, but the desire shown by one institution to control all others. Men who are entrusted with weighty responsibilities, but who have no living connection with God, have been and are doing despite to the Holy Spirit. They are indulging the very same spirit as did Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, and as did the Jews in the days of Christ. (See Matt. 12:22-29; 31 -37.) Warnings have come from God again and again for these men, but they have cast them aside and ventured on in the same course.” [Letter to O. A. Olsen; May 1, 1895.]

IBID., pp. 1558, 1559 & 1565: - “For years a degree of Phariseeism has been springing up amongst us which has separated some from the Bible standard. If the preconceived ideas of those actuated by this spirit are crossed, they immediately assume a controversial, combative attitude, as a man puts on armor when preparing for battle. Much pride and loftiness and a spirit which desires to rule has been manifested, but very little of the spirit which leads men to sit at the feet of Jesus and learn of him, has been shown. Human inventions and human plans are eclipsing sacred things, and excluding divine instruction. Men are taking the place of God by seeking to assume authority over their fellow-men. But they rule without a vestige of the authority of God, which alone can make their ruling a healthful element; and others are becoming leavened by this wrong influence. …  I shall never, I think, be called to stand under the direction of the Holy Spirit as I stood at Minneapolis. The presence of Jesus was with me. … The same spirit that actuated the rejecters of Christ rankles in their hearts, and had they lived in the days of Christ, they would have acted toward him in a manner similar to that of the godless and unbelieving Jews.” [Letter to O. A. Olsen; May 31, 1896.]

The Paulson Collection, p. 388: - “Unless the converting power of God shall be felt upon the hearts and characters of men in positions of trust, they will not, cannot, be one with Christ, keeping the way of the Lord, but like the Pharisees in the days of Christ, they will teach the doctrines and commandments of men, and the Lord will have no more use for them. They cannot be laborers together with God, while they keep the spirit that has actuated them in the past.” [From Brooklyn, New York; November 25, 1890.]

Special Testimonies, Series A, No. 6, pp. 19 & 20: - “On many occasions the Holy Spirit did work; but those who resisted the Spirit of God at Minneapolis were waiting for a chance to travel over the same ground again, because their spirit was the same. … They declared in their heart and soul and words that this manifestation of the Holy Spirit was fanaticism and delusion. They stood like a rock; the waves of mercy were flowing upon and around them, but were beaten back by their hard and wicked hearts, which resisted the Holy Spirit's working. Had this been received, it would have made them wise unto salvation, -- holier men, prepared to do the work of God with sanctified ability. But all the universe of heaven witnessed the disgraceful treatment of Jesus Christ, represented by the Holy Spirit. Had Christ been before them, they would have treated him in a manner similar to that in which the Jews treated Christ.”  [To “Brethren who occupy responsible positions in the work”; January 16, 1896.]

Friends! Do you know what is going on all around you?

Mark 13:37  (KJV) "And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch."

 "Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall." (1 Corinthians 10:11-12).

Greetings in the name of our Father through His Son! I watched a message video on the Beast from the Pit yesterday. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bh-K0CTSBRo) Very encouraging messages God is giving us to share.

"But you, brethren (brethren=John 4:24), are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do (laodiceans/foolish virgins), but let us watch and be sober (wise virgins)." 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6

"The Lord has shown me that the message of the third angel must go, and be proclaimed to the scattered children of the Lord, and that it should not be hung on time; for time never will be a test again. (Does not mean we cannot study to KNOW that Christ's 2nd advent is near, even at the door as did the 3 wise men who KNEW when the 2nd, fleshly, son of man, birth of Jesus would occur!) I saw that some were getting a false excitement arising from preaching time; that the third angel’s message was stronger than time can be. I saw that this message can stand on its own foundation, and that it needs not time to strengthen it, and that it will go in mighty power, and do its work, and will be cut short in righteousness."  Ellen G. White: Volume 1—The Early Years: 1827-1862, By Arthur L. White, p. 208.3

Hebrews 10:25 "but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."

"We must have a knowledge of the Scriptures, that we may trace down the lines of prophecy and ... see that the day is approaching, so that with increased zeal and effort we may exhort one another to faithfulness.... Give up our faith? lose our confidence? become impatient? No, no. We will not think of such a thing.... See how the specifications of the prophecies have been and are fulfilling. Let us lift up our heads and rejoice, for our redemption draweth nigh. It is nearer than when we first believed. Shall we not wait patiently, filled with courage and faith? Shall we not make ready a people to stand in the day of final reckoning?" That I May Know Him, p. 348.5RH July 31, 1888, par. 6Heaven, p. 24.4

Chronicles 12:32 And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment

Jesus said that we couldn't know the day or the hour, but we could know when the time was "near."

Matthew 24:33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors

I believe Jesus may very well come 2015-2017 or so as well. There are so many different ways to look at it, that do as far as I can tell his 2nd appearance points to this time frame! Matthew 24:33 says. "So likewise you, when you shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors."

It is so exciting to be living today and yet sobering, to be able to SEE the very prophecies being fulfilled right before our eyes! "And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh." Luke 21:28

I am going to list a few reasons why I believe Christ is coming soon, and is even at the doorbelow, first the two that David Clayton mentioned in His message...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bh-K0CTSBRo

  1. 6000 chronological timeline of the Bible (this world is nearly 6000 years old - time for the 7000 year clock Sabbath rest - while we are in Heaven and the beast from the bottomless pit is bound to this earth with no one to tempt)
  2. Sabbath clock, 7 day, 7 year, 7000 year, Jubilee years: (Seven-day Clock, Seven-year Clock, Seven-thousand-year Clock, Seven-sabbaticals Clock -- The Jubilee Cycle) click here for more details: The End of the World. This will be "cut short in righteousness" (truth)! This reaches to the 2nd coming of the Messiah, the personification of the jubilee. This is a compelling study for our admonition to  "remember" to obey the 4th commandment. It fits like a key in a lock of truth. When we obey God's commands it unlocks His promises - the key that unlocks Heaven is to obey so we can receive His blessings and eternal life. Science and recorded history tells us that man has been on the earth about 6,000 years (give or take a few years).
  3. Hosea 6:2 NKJV: "After two days He will revive us; On the third day He will raise us up, That we may live in His sight." 2 Peter 3:8 "...a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day..." From Christ's death/resurrection is about 2000 years. 1 day equals a year based on 2 Peter 3:8 and Psalm 90:4. The thought here plays out like this. Christ was crucified about 2,000 years ago. In God's time reference this would have been only two heavenly days. The third day would then represent a glorious day, the millennium reign of Messiah in Heaven in the NEW Jerusalem. The third day is the 7000 year rest clock millennium, Jubilee year because God's people will be in Heaven while the earth rests during the 7000 year Sabbath clock timeline. God created the earth in six of His days or six thousand years and on the seventh day or the seven thousandth year He rested. From Adam to Christ's birth, four thousand years passed and from Christ to now, we are just about at the two thousand year mark. Jesus WILL COME ON TIME! This puts us at the end of the six thousand year period and we are just about ready to embark on the seventh day of rest or a rest for one thousand years, the millennium Jubilee year of Christ. Let's take a look at Mark 9:1-8:

    And He said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you that there are some standing here who will not taste death till they see the kingdom of God present with power."  Now after six days [6000 years He will show Himself to us again?] Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and [IMAGERY we can SEE HIMHe was transfigured before them. His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten themAnd Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah"-- because he did not know what to say, for they were greatly afraid. And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!" Suddenly, when they had looked around, they saw no one anymore, but only Jesus with themselves.

    Lets stay with this theme for a bit more... I have a question to ask at this point. Why did the Lord wait until after the sixth day to take Peter, James and John to the mount to see Him in His glory? I believe the Lord was pointing us to something that will shed light on this theory we have been discussing. He knew that our generation would realize that we are at the end of the six thousand year period and He wanted us to know how close our generation would be to His return and how close we are to the final day (beginning of the 7,000 years) of rest is. The lord could have just as easily went to the mount on the 3rd or 4th day, why the 6th? There are no accidents with God and everything has a purpose. Jesus also knew only the wise, those who were filled with the Holy Spirit would understand what He was saying through this magnificent event and the purposeful timing of it! Praise The Lord that He kept these things from the learned and has revealed it to us.

    The Lord revealed His glory to Peter, James and John on the sixth day because He wanted them and all of us to know that His return in glory and magesty would occur at the end of the sixth day (6,000 years), the beginning of the seventh day or the final one-thousandth year of history! Amazing isn't it that not only does the Lord speak to us in Word, but also in demonstration and imagerythrough His Word.

    Matthew 13:34-35:
    All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable He did not speak to them, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: "I will open My mouth in parables; I will utter things kept secret  from the foundation of the world."

  4. I have been studying about the new Jesuit black (black because he is of the Jesuit order) Pope and the 3.5 years of the little time of trouble possibly starting 3/13/13 (Revelation 13:5)...certainly interesting - the loud cry (truth about Jesus and His doctrines-three angels messages, the 7th Day Sabbath and worship God only, keep all 10 commandments) starts at the passage of legislation/law to implement a Sunday law, as I currently understand it, that swells until it fills the whole world, the rock that smites the feet of the image of Daniel 2. The 3.5 ministry of Christ and his ministers today compares to the 3.5 years until the church then killed him? and today kills some of us? A Martyr for Christ? The 3.5 years or 42 months given to Pope Francis (Revelation 13:5) his end or his end of time that is given to him authority to act and speak, (Daniel 11:36) would come to September 13, 2016 - then the 1 year of plagues start? and is cut short in righteousness? --- more here: https://sites.google.com/site/theendtimewarning/interesting-meaning-of-words-in-certain-verses
  5. Just the 7 day, 7 year, 7 thousand year, jubilee year study is enough to convince many people that the 7th Day Sabbath (Saturday) is the truth. At least to me it is very compelling. Click for more details: The End of the World

In 1899 Ellen White predicts and warns God's People living today - just before Jesus returns: “In India, China, Russia, and the cities of America, thousands of men and women are dying of starvation. The monied men, (TWO MOST POWERFUL FAMILIES IN THE WORLD/not on forbes richest list for a reason:) because they have the power, control the market. They purchase at low rates all they can obtain, and then sell at greatly increased prices. This means starvation to the poorer classes, and will (future tense when written in 1899 by EGW) result in a civil war. There will be a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation. "And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation, even to that same time; and at that time thy people shall be delivered, everyone that shall be found written in the book. . . . Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly, and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.” --Ms 114, 1899. (General manuscript, untitled, typed August 13, 1899.) {5MR 305.4} Click the following link to read the whole quote in context: Manuscript Releases Volume Five [Nos. 260-346], p. 305.4

When the shaking comes and the world is "in fear of things coming upon the earth" and Babylon calls (with civic penalties) for all to return to "worship" and "save the nation".

The lamb like beast has learned from Hitler. Check out on Google images and youtube all the photos of FEMA camps, TACMAR (for Tactical Marking) there are military "code-signs" on the backs of US road signs. When foreign troops cannot speak each others language - these stickers help all to know where to go. A TACMAR symbol used as markers for military, police and Fema as special identifiers. That red square means you and your neighbors are marked for "Red Zone". Fema's Red Zone is for people who are going to be the first to be exterminated.

Q. It seems like most Bible teachers who teach end time eschatology never refer to Hosea 6:2.  It surely must have some significance to the timing of the second coming, does it not?

In Hosea 6:2 it says, “After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight”  Could this mean to say that after two thousand years (following Christ’s death and resurrection) that He will return to “revive us”, and during the 1000 year millennium he will raise us up and we shall live in his sight

A.  Hosea 6:2 says, “After two days He will revive us, and on the third day He will restore us.” A number of prophecy students apply the “one day is like 1000 years” comment from 2 Peter 3:8 and speculate that the Lord going back to His place (Hosea 5:15) refers to His ascension.  2000 years later (2 days) Spiritual Israel = all people who worship God in SPIRIT and in TRUTH (John 4:24), will admit their guilt and return to Him (Hosea 6:1). I believe this is a reference to Zechariah 12:10, which will take place near the end of the Great Tribulation (time of Jacob's trouble).  Then at the 2nd Coming He will restore their Kingdom beginning the 3rd thousand years (the 3rd day), known to us as the Millennium (Hosea 6:2). The Millennium the Saints will spend in Heaven, while Satan is bound to the bottomless pit - chained by circumstances - because he cannot go off to Heaven to accuse the Saints anymore or tempt other worlds. He has no one to tempt because the wicked are all destroyed by the brightness of Christ's coming until the 2nd resurrection of the wicked to eternal death.

While this interpretation makes general sense from our perspective I don’t believe we can use it to pin down the specific time of the Lord’s return. I see it as more of an indication of the general timing.

"for the time of trouble must come before the coming of Christ,RH July 21, 1851, Art. A, par. 14 and A Sketch of the Christian Experience and Views of Ellen G. White, p. 7.1

 No matter when you start counting  and how many days you use for a year, this interpretation of Hosea’s prophecy places us somewhere in the close proximity of the Lord’s return.

"After two days He will revive us,
And on the third day He will raise us up,
That we may live in His sight." -Hos 6:2 NKJV

The third day, starts the 1000 year clock Sabbath rest? Christ's 2nd coming to take the faithful overcomers to Heaven into His sight! This timeframe reaches to the 2nd coming of our Messiah, the personification of the jubilee.

The prophet Hosea spoke forth this prophecy, and it concerns our time. He said that "after two days He will revive us". Hosea speaks of a gap in time. He tells of God's people being "torn to pieces" and then "after two days" there would be a revival.
"Come, and let us return to the Lord,
For He has torn, but He will heal us,
He has stricken, but He will bind us up.
After two days He will revive us,
And on the third day He will raise us up,
That we may live in His sight."
 -Hos 6:2 NKJV
This is very interesting. Hosea here speaks of God having "torn" and "smitten". Three verses later He goes on to say,
"Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets;
I have slain them by the words of my mouth:
and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth."
 -Hos.6:5 KJV

REVIVAL!
IN A VALLEY OF DRY BONES!

In Ezekiel 37 the prophet sees an awesome vision. God's people lie scattered in a valley of dry bones. There they lie, sprawled out dead in a valley of dry bones.

AFTER TWO DAYS HE WILL REVIVE US
If we are going lay out a timeline for the "two days" then we have to find a starting point. That starting point must relate to this "cutting to pieces" mentioned by Hosea. Presumably these "cutting" prophetic messages came to an end at some point. When might this have been?

The scriptures reveal for us that the final cutting prophetic word against Israel. It was given by Jesus Himself. This was the Olivet Discourse The final cutting words of judgement were given in the days before His crucifixion. Jesus said that the Temple would be destroyed, the city taken, and the people scattered.
Judgement did come on the nation of Israel. In 70 A.D. the Roman armies under Titus entered the Holy City.(Again the Romans have entered into the faithful City of Adventism by smuggling in the doctrine of the trinity and beginning stages of church wide Sunday worship ("God is glad for us to go to church BOTH days [Saturday and Sunday]. He wants us to worship Him BOTH days." (ST, 3/1990, p. 22-23). )
("(for they hated us on account of the Sabbath, for they could not refute it)" Spalding and Magan Collection, p. 1.5)
"Then I was shown a company who were howling in agony. On their garments was written in large characters, "Thou art weighed in the balance, and found wanting." I asked who this company were. The angel said, "These are they who have once kept the Sabbath and have given it up." I heard them cry with a loud voice, "We have believed in Thy coming, and taught it with energy." And while they were speaking, their eyes would fall upon their garments and see the writing, and then they would wail aloud. I saw they had drunk of the deep waters, and fouled the residue with their feet -- trodden the Sabbath underfoot -- and that was why they were weighed in the balance and found wanting (Early Writings, p. 37).

 and a host of other false doctrines today. “How is the faithful city become a harlot!...Thy silver is become dross." RH May 8, 1894, par. 6, Testimonies for the Church Volume 8, p. 250.2, Testimony Treasures Volume 3, p. 254.1, RH August 1, 1899, Art. A, par. 6)
 The Temple was burned and leveled and Judah was scattered into the nations just as the lost ten tribes had been scattered 800 years before. The long saga of the Jews in the Diaspora would go on for two thousand years.
Then the time for revival and restoration would come. Ezekiel saw the bones coming together. -Ezek 37 Of late we have also seen signs of spiritual revival. Many people are waking up, repenting and getting oil/character for their lamps, coming back to a knowledge of the true God (historical SDA doctrines), coming out from all the 501c3 churches that have apostatized - preaching the three angels messages and the Righteousness of Christ - you cannot believe in a false God and preach the Righteousness of Christ! The soul and breath/character of Christ by His Spirit is coming to each one who studies and pleads for enlightenment.   Revival of the dry bones and the 2 days Hosea speaks of are almost completed...Hosea prophesied that "after two days He will revive us". HOSEA PROPHESIES A REVIVAL AT THE END.
SO DO SOLOMON, ISAIAH, JEREMIAH, JOEL, EZEKIEL, ZECHARIAH, AND OTHERS.

Hosea states that "after two days He will revive us". What can we say about God's mention of a revival? It seems that the 70th week and those final 7 years may open up with a great revival. The prophet Isaiah saw the end-time saints as a wedding party. He saw them going forth with lamps shining brightly, even in the midst of thick darkness. - Isa.60 His inspired poetry bears witness to this end-time revival going forward in a time of thick darkness. What is God telling us?

Even in these times of trials and tribulations God is bringing us a message. It is a word of exhortation and encouragement. Brothers and sisters, these words were written for God's people as they come to the end of this age. These words are for us!

1. 'Arise, shine; For your light has come!
And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
2. For behold,
The darkness shall cover the earth,
And deep darkness the people;
But the Lord will arise over you,
And His glory will be seen upon you.
3. The Gentiles shall come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.
4. "Lift up your eyes all around, and see:
They all gather together, they come to you;
Your sons shall come from afar,
And your daughters shall be nursed at your side.
5. Then you shall see and become radiant,
And your heart shall swell with joy.'
 -Isa 60:1-5 NKJV

Hosea goes on to say, "And on the third day He will raise us up" That we may live in His sight", indicating, as we shall see, that this revival will carry on into the Millennium.

And yet the Holy Spirit here in Hosea 6 is speaking of a latter day glory, an Endtime Revival of all things!

THE PROPHET JOEL SPEAKS OF AN EPIC BLOCKBUSTER REVIVAL.

IT CLIMAXES IN THE DAYS OF A DARKENED SUN AND A BLOODY MOON and Christ's 2nd coming...

These are not the only scriptures that speak of a revival in the last days. The prophet Joel saw the Holy Spirit outpouring coming to a peak even as this age was coming to a tumultuous climax. The context clearly indicates this epic revival comes to a magnificent crescendo and peaks in the last 30 days of the age.

28. "And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions.

29. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

30. "And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke.

31. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.

32. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the Lord has said, among the remnant whom the Lord calls." - Joel 2:28-32 NKJV

We know for a certainty that this revival is coming to a climax right at the end of this age. The revival peak that Joel saw is time tagged. The timing of this revival peak is marked out in time by his mention of those cosmic disturbances of the sun turning to darkness, the moon to blood etc..

We can be sure of this because Jesus gave us the details in the Olivet Discourse. He said that it would be,

29 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken." - Mat.24:29

The cosmic signs of the sun turning to darkness and the moon to blood are the clincher here.

From his vantage point around 800 B.C. Joel saw the peak of the Holy Spirit outpouring. This is the final climax of the very same revival Peter saw and commented on at Pentecost two millennia earlier. Joel saw the mountain peak of the revival. And he said it was "afterwards". So as we have seen, this would surely refer to the last days.
Our apostle Peter spoke of Joel's prophecy. We can read about it in Acts 2. When those momentous events opened up on the Day of Pentecost in Jerusalem back in 32 A.D. Peter tagged the revival he was seeing as that same revival Joel saw, the one that would climax at the end of the age!
"AFTER TWO DAYS HE WILL REVIVE US, AND ON THE THIRD DAY HE WILL RAISE US UP, THAT WE MAY LIVE IN HIS SIGHT". Hos 6:2 NKJV

2 Peter 3:8 "...a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day..."

 Christ said that His people (modern SDA organization) would make covenant with a false messiah. He would be a narcissistic leader who apparently has no regard for the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob but as a Luciferian worships "self". Here are His words.

"I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive". John 5:43 NKJV
This is a sobering truth. But we must face up to it. This will be Nicea session 2. The former deal the western church made with the Roman Caesar Constantine back in 325 A.D.
All 501c3 (non-profit) churches are even now compromising the faith in order to embrace the ecumenical movement and the United Religions Initiative.

This would be a shocking day for God's faithful elect. For many it would be the end of their faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It would be a a day of apostasy!

God's true and uncompromised covenant people would wake up in that day. They would recoil in horror at what has happened. How would God's watchmen respond? Would they sound the alarm> Would they blow the trumpet? And could this epic blowing of trumpets, calling all God's people to solemn assembly be the crucial "wake up call" which will cause the saints to cry out to God? Would this great awakening of God's covenant people initiate the revival of which Hosea prophesied? We see a shadow of this electrifying moment in Joel's prophecy.

"Blow the trumpet in Zion,

And sound an alarm in My holy mountain!

Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble;

For the day of the Lord is coming,

For it is at hand:" - Joel 2:1 NKJV

12. "Now, therefore," says the Lord,

"Turn to Me with all your heart,

With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning."

- Joel 2:12 NKJV

And what is the purpose in bringing out this word of warning right now?

The church in the western world is apathetic. Like the Shulamite she is self absorbed and comfortable in her private room. Couched amidst her materialistic comforts she is not inclined to rise when the knock comes at the door. - Song of Songs 5:2-8 Are we listening? Shall we rise to answer His gentle voice? We have been instructed to be watchful. Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for failing to watch and for not observing the signs of the times.

1. "Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven. 2 He answered and said to them, "When it is evening you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red'; 3 and in the morning, 'It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.' Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times." - Matthew 16:1-4 NKJV

41. Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,

42. saying, "If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. -Luke 19:41-48 NKJV

Alas the Pharisees (laodiceans/foolish virgins today) had not done their homework. When that day came they were not watching for Him. Thirty years before this the Magi out in Persia had been reading Daniel's prophecy. They had done some calculations and had determined approximately when the Messiah would be born. That set them to watching, hoping for a sign. God honored their diligence in their study of His sacred Word. The star appeared and led them to Bethlehem. Wise men still seek Him, even today. The shepherds were also honored at the birth of Christ. They too were watching; keeping watch over their flocks by night.

The day dawned the Pharisees were too busy in their business of religion to calculate the time of the appearing of their Messiah, the promised Lamb of God. Pray God that we in the privileged western church of the 21st century with access to all this electronic information (KNOWLEDGE SHALL BE INCREASED) to help us search the scriptures will do a better job this next time. Because our time to be watching carefully may come up sooner than we had anticipated. And let us pray that we show more interest in knowing the season of Messiah's second coming than the Pharisees showed for identifying the season of His first coming. Let us make sure that we do our homework.

Jesus Himself has entreated us to watch, to be on the lookout.

"Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming." -Mat.25:13 NKJV

Our Apostle Paul exhorts us to,

13. "Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong." -1 Cor. 16:13 NKJV

This article is sent out for two main purposes.
1. It is to alert the saints to watchfulness now that the endtime drama could be quite near.
2. It is to encourage the saints in their critical role of witness.
We are to finish the race begun by the saints who have gone before us. The world and the whole company of angels are watching.

1. "Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us,
and let us run with patient endurance the race that is set before us,
2. Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith,
who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and has sat down at
the right hand of the throne of God." - Heb. 12:1-2 NKJV
In the covenant we have with our God He has always made ample provision for His witnesses. We have been given the Holy Spirit - the Spirit of Christ. He is our Strengthener/Comforter and personal Guide. Through many dangers, toils and snares He will lead us on towards the gates of splendour.
NOW IS THE TIME OF SALVATION.
NOW IS THE TIME TO TURN OUR EYES UPON JESUS.
For those who do not know Jesus Christ personally or have not given themselves totally to Him now is the time to answer His call. Invite Him into your heart and life. We are creatures of a fallen world. We all need our character changed from the inside out. We cannot do this ourselves. Only Jesus has the power to do the job. And He will do that work within us just as fast as we get down on our knees and invite Him in surrendering ourselves to His gracious rule.
If you are willing to take that step of faith and to ask Him into your life, then go out and find someone to baptize you under the water into Christ before a crowd of witnesses. This will help enormously as you set out on your walk of faith.

Grace and peace to all those who love his appearing.

April 3, 33 A.D. AROUND 3:00 p.m. on APRIL 3, 33 A.D., PRECISELY at the moment that Jesus would have
expired, a SUBSTANTIAL ECLIPSE of the Moon commenced, which was still visible in Jerusalem after sundown! The “ECLIPSE” proves that JESUS was certainly CRUCIFIED on April 3, 33 A.D.,

The New Testament tells us that Jesus DIED ON A FRIDAY, or the Day of Preparation for the PASSOVER, or the DAY BEFORE the Jewish Passover. Luke 23:44-46 says that Jesus died at the SIXTH HOUR or at 3 p.m. in the afternoon. The following passage also reveals that Jesus died on the Eve of the Sabbath or Friday. That is: He died on a DAY BEFORE the Sabbath and ON a Passover Eve! The Apostle John calls this day a “High Day” for it was BOTH a Sabbath and the Passover!

St. John 19:31 - The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation that the bodies should not remain upon the Cross on the SABBATH DAY, (for that Sabbath Day was an HIGH DAY,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

This means that WHEN JESUS DIED, He died on the EVE OF PASSOVER which occurs on “Nisan 14” and on a “Friday afternoon” BEFORE the Sabbath, which starts at sundown. The Jewish Passover OCCURS on Nisan 15 and during a FULL MOON. Thus, one can verify the ACCURACY OF THE DATES with Astronomy.

The JEWISH CALENDARS indicate that the EVE OF PASSOVER occurred during the years of A.D. 30 through A.D. 33 ON A Friday in ONLY ONE YEAR - A.D. 33! THIS AGREES WITH ASTRONOMY!

A FULL MOON did not OCCUR on any FRIDAY that was also the EVE OF THE PASSOVER in A.D. 30, 31, 32, 34 or 35! It is important to note that the monthly calendar for Nisan A.D. 34 and 35 are identical to that in A.D. 31 and A.D. 32, respectively. That means NISAN 14 did not
occur on any Friday between A.D. 30 and A.D. 35, EXCEPT in the year A.D. 33.

That leaves only one year in which Jesus could have died. Therefore, JESUS DIED on April 3, 33 A.D. in our GREGORIAN Calendar OR Nisan 14, 3793 in the JEWISH Calendar.
