The Origin of Easter

Does Easter Have A Pagan Origin?

The Pagan Origin Of Easter

By David C. Meyer
April 20, 2003

Easter is a day that is honored by nearly all of contemporary Christianity and is used to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The holiday often involves a church service at sunrise, a feast which includes an “Easter Ham”, decorated eggs and stories about rabbits.

Those who love truth learn to ask questions, and many questions must be asked regarding the holiday of Easter.

Is it truly the day when Jesus arose from the dead? Where did all of the strange customs come from, which have nothing to do with the resurrection of our Saviour?

The purpose of this tract is to help answer those questions, and to help those who seek truth to draw their own conclusions.

The first thing we must understand is that professing Christians were not the only ones who celebrated a festival called “Easter.”

“Ishtar”, which is pronounced “Easter” was a day that commemorated the resurrection of one of their gods that they called “Tammuz”, who was believed to be the only begotten son of the moon-goddess and the sun-god who is known by many names. Example: Isis,

Semiramis was the legendary wife of King Ninus, succeeding him to the throne of Assyria. The legends narrated by Diodorus Siculus, Justin and others from Ctesias of Cnidus describe her and her relationship ... Wikipedia
The Whore of Babylon or Babylon the Great is a Christian figure of evil mentioned in the Book of Revelation in the Bible. Her full title is given as "Babylon the Great, the Mother of Prostitutes and Abominations of the Earth." Wikipedia

In those ancient times, there was a man named Nimrod, who was the grandson of one of Noah’s son named Ham.

Ham had a son named Cush who married a woman named Semiramis. Cush and Semiramis then had a son named him “Nimrod.”

After the death of his father, Nimrod married his own mother who was also his own sister and became a powerful King.

The Bible tells of of this man, Nimrod, in Genesis 10:8-10 as follows:  “And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the Lord: wherefore it is said, even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord.  And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh,in the land of Shinar.”

Nimrod became a worshiped as a part-god and part-man to the people. Semiramis, his wife, sister and mother, became the powerful Queen of ancient Babylon.

Nimrod was eventually killed by an enemy (believed to be Shem, one of Noah's Son's because of his extreme wickedness), and his body was cut in pieces and sent to various parts of his kingdom.

Semiramis had all of the parts gathered, except for one part that could not be found.

That missing part was his reproductive organ. Semiramis claimed that Nimrod could not come back to life without it and told the people of Babylon that Nimrod had ascended to the sun and was now to be called “Baal”, the sun god.

Queen Semiramis also proclaimed that Baal would be present on earth in the form of a flame, whether candle or The Pagan Origin Of Easter lamp, when used in worship.

Semiramis was creating a mystery religion, and with the help of Satan, she set herself up as a goddess.

Semiramis became pregnant by someone (her husband was dead) claimed that she was immaculately conceived from a ray of the sun. Because she said her husband Nimrod was reincarnated as the Sun-Son god through her infant son Tammuz.

  • "Osiris (Nimrod), god of the dead: Killed by his brother Seth, Osiris was brought back to life by his wife Isis and by Anubis, who embalmed his body. Osiris (Nimrod), however did not return to earth where he once reigned, but became the god (the Trinity today) of the dead (those who do not obey all Ten Commandments)- who, if his teachings were followed, could also grant eternal life" The Encylopedia of Ancient Egypt, page 200.
  • Nimrod is also known as Osiris. The Twice-Born God - the counterfeit Jesus. "Another Jesus" as we are warned against in 2 Cor 11:3-4 3 "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well (beware) bear with him."
Nimrod, Semiramis and Tammuz have other names:

This heathen religion of Nimrod, Semiramis and Tammuz is the first "triad" or "trinity" of gods. The names of these gods have only been changed down through the years from country to country (I created a picture of this here: to Biblical "sounding" names today. The name of Semiramis has been changed to "God the Holy Spirit" and "Tammuz" has been changed to "God the Son" and "Nimrod" to "God the Father". This "trinity" of gods is worshiped by the majority of Christendom today. Many unknowingly are worshiping the trinity Sun god on Sunday the 1st day of the week instead of the Biblical 7th day of the week, Saturday, from Sundown Friday night to Sundown Sunday night. This is the UNIVERSAL religion started in 312 AD to 325 AD by Constantine. First Council of Nicaea in 325, at which the Nicene Creed was first professed by Christians. Constantine mixed pagan idol worship (Semarmis/Nimrod/Tammuz=trinity worship) and simply gave these idols Biblical sounding names...basically baptized paganism....This is why today, the message from the third angel in Revelation 14:6-12 is to come OUT of all 501c3 church denominations, which is the second beast (Rev 13:11) into the protection of Christ and His angels. Worship God, the Father of Christ (1 Cor 8:6) in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus says I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE. NO ONE comes to the FATHER except through ME. John 14:6.

Two parties, two armies, two groups of people are being developed more decidedly than ever before in this world. Those FEW who obey the Ten Commandments of God and the majority in this world who obey the commandments/traditions/rules of man instead of God.

She taught that the moon was a goddess that went through a 28 day cycle and ovulated when full.

She further claimed that she came down from the moon in a giant moon egg that fell into the Euphrates River.

This was to have happened at the time of the first full moon after the spring equinox.

Semiramis became known as “Ishtar” which is pronounced “Easter”, and her moon egg became known as “Ishtar’s” egg.”

Ishtar soon became pregnant and claimed that it was the rays of the sun-god Baal (deified Nimrod, god of the dead now) that caused her to conceive.

The son that she brought forth was named Tammuz.

Tammuz was noted to be especially fond of rabbits, and they became sacred in the ancient religion, because Tammuz was believed to be the illegitimate son of the sun-god, Baal (Nimrod). Tammuz, like his supposed father, became a hunter.

The day came when Tammuz was killed by a wild pig.

Queen Ishtar told the people that Tammuz was now ascended to his father, Baal, and that the two of them would be with the worshippers in the sacred candle or lamp flame as Father, Son and Spirit.

Ishtar, who was now worshipped as the “Mother of God and Queen of Heaven”, continued to build her mystery religion.

The queen told the worshippers that when Tammuz was killed by the wild pig, some of his blood fell on the stump of an evergreen tree, and the stump grew into a full new tree overnight. This made the evergreen tree sacred by the blood of Tammuz.

She also proclaimed a forty day period of time of sorrow each year prior to the anniversary of the death of Tammuz.

During this time, no meat was to be eaten.

Worshippers were to meditate upon the sacred mysteries of Baal and Tammuz, and to make the sign of the “T” in front of their hearts as they worshiped. The Making the sign of the cross, the "T" = As you know, the hand moves from the left of the top of the body, then to the right, and then down. One for God the Father, one for the Son, and the last move for the Holy Spirit. Trinity doctrine. "The mystery of the Trinity is the central doctrine of the Catholic Faith. Upon IT are based all the other teachings of the church..." Handbook for Today's Catholic, p. 11.

They also ate sacred cakes with the marking of a “T” or cross on the top.

Every year, on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox, a celebration was made.

It was Ishtar’s Sunday and was celebrated with rabbits and eggs.

Ishtar also proclaimed that because Tammuz was killed by a pig, that a pig must be eaten on that Sunday.

By now, the readers of this tract should have made the connection that paganism has infiltrated the contemporary “Christian” churches, and further study indicates that this paganism came in by way of the Roman Catholic System.

The truth is that Easter has nothing whatsoever to do with the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We also know that Easter can be as much as three weeks away from the Passover, because the pagan holiday is always set as the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox.

Some have wondered why the word “Easter” is in the the King James Bible.

It is because Acts, chapter 12, tells us that it was the evil King Herod, who was planning to celebrate Easter, and not the Christians.

The true Passover and pagan Easter sometimes coincide, but in some years, they are a great distance apart.

So much more could be said, and we have much more information for you, if you are a seeker of the truth.

We know that the Bible tells us in John 4:24, “God is a spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

The truth is that the forty days of Lent, eggs, rabbits, hot cross buns and the Easter ham have everything to do with the ancient pagan religion of Mystery Babylon. These are all Antichrist activities!

Satan is a master deceiver, and has filled the lives of well-meaning, professing Christians with idolatry.

These things bring the wrath of God upon children of disobedience, who try to make pagan customs of Baal worship Christian.

You must answer for your activities and for what you teach your children.

These customs of Easter honor Baal, who is also Satan, and is still worshiped as the “Rising Sun” and his house is the “House of the Rising Sun.”

How many churches have “sunrise services” on Ishtar’s day and face the rising sun in the East?

How many will use colored eggs and rabbit stories, as they did in ancient Babylon.

These things are no joke, any more than Judgment day is a joke.

I pray to God that this tract will cause you to search for more truth.

We will be glad to help you by providing more information and by praying for you.

These are the last days, and it is time to repent, come out and be separate.

The Pagan/heathen/Satanic (Nimrodic) roots of Christmas. Why celebrates a holiday that honors the Babylonian (Satanic) trinity of Nimrod, Tammuz and Semiramis? Why celebrate a known Pagan holiday from the Babylonian trinity of Nimrod, Tammuz and Semiramis that is now called ‘Christmas.’

The answer is found lying in the very word itself for Easter is the name of the Babylonian spring fertility goddess 'Ishtar' consort and wife of the pagan god of vegetation Baalim.

The beginning of this fertility cult had its origins in ancient Babylon. The source and center of world paganism and idolatry.  Amongst the Canaanites, where she was called by the name 'Ashtoreth', the worship of this deity took on a barbarous nature. Lewd fertility rites included wild orgies, child sacrifice, snake worship and temple prostitution. The name Ashtoreth is related to the Persian word 'Sitarah' which means 'star of heaven' where she became a moon goddess. As early as the time of  the book of Judges her cult had spread to the Israelites.

Judges 2 :11-13, Says " And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served Baalim. And they forsook the Lord G_d  of their fathers, which braught them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the Lord to anger. And they forsook the Lord, and served Baal and Ashtoreth".

The worship of this goddess is spoken of by the prophet Jeremiah who being in the Babylonian captivity she is called by one of her titles.

Jeremiah 7:18 says, "The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the 'Queen of Heaven'.

Gifts were once offered in to the Queen of Heaven in the form of a sacred  cake called a 'boun' (bun) which was made with fine flour and honey. The tradition of the sacred cake is still practiced on Easter, hot cross buns are still offered and eaten,  but there is no doubt to where this custom derives.

What has the Easter egg got to do with Christ?

Why is there no mention of an egg in the Gospel?

The origin of the Easter egg,  The emblem of Easter, is just as clear. What is called the 'Easter egg' was originally called 'the mystic egg of Ishtar'. It was formally used by pagans as a symbol of fertile awakenining of nature in spring, with the shape resembling that of a testicle, it became an emblem of Easter fertility rites.

The worship of Easter was very early practiced in Britain. It was first introduced to the Celtic druids by the Phoenicians (Israelites) who being sea merchants traded with the people of Cornwall centuries before the Christian era.

Christian religous leader chose Easter to falsely celebrate Christ's resurrection for a simple reason. Before Christianityarrived in England, the English were deeply engulfed in paganism. In order to bait pagans into the Christian church, many customs from paganism were adopted into the Christian religion. In 325 AD at the council of Nicea, as an attempt to blend Christianity with paganism, Easter was substituted as Christ's resurrection. The sacred egg of paganism, the mystic egg of Ishtar, was adopted into Christianity and consecrated as a symbol of Christ's ressurection. Instead of Christianity converting pagans, pagans as the majority converted Christians. Pagans continued their practices within the church, the only difference being it is now falsely done in the name of Christ.

Along with the Easter bunny and the chocolate eggs, the Christian tradition of Christ being crucified on Good Friday and resurrected three days later on Easter Sunday is a lie that is not in accordance with the Bible. When you examine the Bible you will find that Christ rose on Sunday, and kept the Sabbath, even in death, he rested, the previous day, which was Saturday, the 7th day of the week.

In Matthew 28:1 it states that after the Sabbath (Saturday) that Mary came very early in the morning (Sunday morning, 1st day of the week) to visit the tomb where Christ’s body had been placed. When she had arrived, Christ had already arisen.

In MATTHEW 12:40 it Says“For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three nights in the heart of the earth”

Genesis 1:5 "And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day." American King James Version. Every EVENING starts the next day. From even to even is a day and night in the Bible.

Jesus was crucified on Friday. He would have been in the grave all of Friday, and would have risen sometime after dark on Saturday evening and dawn Sunday morning when Mary went to the tomb and found it empty.

A pagan festival and the worship of the true God do not mix. The prophets of Israel constantly warned against the worship of false gods.

II Corinthians 6:14-17 Says, " What fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness? What concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part hath he that believe with an infedel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? Wherefore come out from among them and be ye separate, saith the Lord'
