My Daddy, Asleep in Jesus

When Ronald Eugene Randolph was born on May
27, 1939, in Michigan, his father, Harry, was 27 and his mother, Viola, was 24. He married Stella May Parrick on May 12, 1968 and they had seven children together. His first marriage to Ruth produced two beautiful daughters, Lisa and Theresa. On November 1, 2015, in Madison County, Missouri, at the age of 76 he passed to his rest to await his Lifegiver. My father, as he sank nearer and nearer the grave, did not lose his clearness of intellect, but to the last his mind was active, and especially fruitful in the things relating to the kingdom of God. He often stated that it was a great pleasure to him to have so many of his children and brothers and other family around him in his last hours. His patience in his afflictions, and willingness, and even anxiety to have the hours of his probation close, were remarkable. The praise of God, and grateful expressions of his goodness were continually upon his lips, and thus he died.

"If you err, it would be better to err on the side of the people than on the side where you cannot reach them" Ms 5, 1884 (May 16, 1884) par. 10.

"The graves were opened, and those who had died in faith under the third angel's message (Oct 22, 1844 until Jesus returns with a shout), keeping the Sabbath, came forth from their dusty beds, glorified, to hear the covenant of peace that God was to make with those who had kept His law.Early Writings, p. 285.1

These are raised 7 days AFTER the New World Order starts? I think so. Learn more about this here.

Here are the statements about , "a number of days" for the plagues to fall:

"And I saw a flaming cloud come where Jesus stood. Then Jesus . . . took His place on the cloud which carried Him to the East, where it first appeared to the saints on earth--a small black cloud which was the sign of the Son of man. While the cloud was passing from the Holiest to the East, which took a number of days, the synagogue of Satan worshipped at the saints' feet."  {Mar 287.8}

And from another place.

"And I saw a flaming cloud come where Jesus stood and he laid off his priestly garment and put on his kingly robe, took his place on the cloud which carried him to the east where it first appeared to the saints on earth, a small black cloud, which was the sign of the Son of Man. While the cloud was passing from the Holiest to the east which took a number of days, the Synagogue of Satan worshiped at the saints feet." Ellen G. Harmon  {DS, March 14, 1846 par. 2}

https://sites.google.com/site/theendtimewarning/interesting-meaning-of-words-in-certain-verses

Then there is this one:

"Then I saw Jesus lay off His priestly attire and clothe Himself with His most kingly robes. Upon His head were many crowns, a crown within a crown. Surrounded by the angelic host, He left heaven. The plagues were falling upon the inhabitants of the earth."  {EW 281.1}  {1SG 200.1}

The "Close of Probation" is determined by the time of The Day of Atonement in the Hebrew Sanctuary services.  In 1844, Jesus began the Judgment on October 22, which was a Day of Atonement,  and Jesus will declare, "It is finished", on a Day of Atonement in the year that He returns because, "Type must meet its Anti-type at the time pointed out in the symbolic service" of the Sanctuary.  This is proven by the fact that at His crucifixion and resurrection, Jesus specifically observed the Spring feasts with exact attention to the day and time the feast was to take place!  See the book, The Great Controversy PP. 399 - 400.

It is only five days from the Day of Atonement to the First Day of the Feast of Tabernacles and that is how quickly the plagues will fall in different parts of the world and the end will come!  On the first day of the Feast of Tabernacles we begin our, "seven day journey"  to Heaven and on the "Eighth Day" which is "the last great day of the feast", we will sit down to the Heavenly Banquet" with Christ and all the redeemed, the angels and beings from the un-fallen worlds!  This is what Ellen White, Haskell and other of the "pioneers" believed and taught!

According to events described preceding this statement of "silence in heaven for half an hour", I think this is the time when all the beings of heaven come with Jesus to deliver His Elect!

Revelation 19:7 "Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready."

THE JUDGMENT PASSES

TO THE CASES OF THE LIVING

The investigative judgment

passes to the cases of the living

when the mark and seal begin to

be given (6T 130; 5T 526). In the

judgment, one person is retained

in the book of life while another

receives the mark of separation

(TM 234-235).

The judgment will pass to the

living at the time of the National

Sunday Law (5T 526; 6T 130). Each

Will be judged by the light he has

received, accepted, or rejected

(LDE 216-217; GC 605; 5BC 1145).

Revelation 12:6 "The woman (remnant/144,000/faithful city of God) fled into the wilderness." "The church of Christ found refuge in seclusion and obscurity. Thus says the prophet: "The woman (pure virgin church of truth) fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her (truth) there a thousand two hundred and three-score days." Revelation 12:6." The Great Controversy, p. 54.2  "These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth" Revelation 14:4. David Hides From Saul: "On his return he was to hide in a field not far from the banqueting hall, for three days (see Hosea 6:2) absenting himself from the presence of the king." FROM ETERNITY PAST, PAGE 476, see Hosea 6:2 that on the third day we will LIVE in the Sight of God because of the righteous scepter (Christ) that is held out to us by God the King of Kings.

He was to hide in a field not far from the banqueting hall, for three days (see Hosea 6:2) absenting himself from the presence of the king. "And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him." Matthew 25:6. Exodus 19:16 "On the morning of the third day there was thunder and lightning, with a thick cloud over the mountain, and a very loud trumpet blast (compare to 2nd advent trumpets). Everyone in the camp trembled."

Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. (Remember: probation closes for the house of God FIRST)

Acts 20:9 Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on. When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead.

11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. [Then I was shown a company who were howling in agony. On their garments was written in large characters, “Thou art weighed in the balance, and found wanting.” I asked who this company were. The angel said, “These are they who have once kept the Sabbath and have given it up.” (professed militant modern Adventists who worship the trinity (1st 3 commandments) and break the Sabbath (4th commandment)) I heard them cry with a loud voice, “We have believed in thy coming, and taught it with energy.” And while they were speaking, their eyes would fall upon their garments and see the writing, and then they would wail aloud. I saw that they had drunk of the deep waters, and fouled the residue with their feet—trodden the Sabbath under foot, and that is why they were weighed in the balance and found wanting." A Sketch of the Christian Experience and Views of Ellen G. White, p. 19.1]

13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

We are not far from the gospel feast - the house of the bridegroom - hiding in the wilderness being nourished and refreshed by truth - perfecting and testing messages - worship God only - come out of all churches - sent to us through Jesus from God the Father.

“The kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.” PUR May 18, 1911, par. 17

"toilers in a field which calls for self-denying labor;" HM July 1, 1891, par. 5

"Then I saw that Jesus would not leave the Most Holy Place until every case was decided either for salvation or destruction, and that the wrath of God could not come until Jesus had finished his work in the Most Holy Place, laid off his priestly attire and clothed himself with the garments of vengeance. Then Jesus will step out from between the Father and man, and God will keep silence no longer; but pour out his wrath on those who have rejected his truth. I saw that the anger of the nations, the wrath of God, and the time to judge the dead, were separate events, one following the other. I saw that Michael had not stood up, and that the time of trouble, such as never was, had not yet commenced. The nations are now getting angry, but when our High Priest has finished his work in the Sanctuary, he will stand up, put on the garments of vengeance, and then the seven last plagues will be poured out. I saw that the four angels would hold the four winds until Jesus’ work was done in the Sanctuary, and then will come the seven last plaguesThese plagues enraged the wicked against the righteous, and they thought that we had brought them down upon them, and if they could rid the earth of us, then the plagues would be stayed. A decree went forth to slay the saints, which caused them to cry day and night for deliverance. This was the time of Jacob’s troubleThen all the saints cried out with anguish of spirit, and were delivered by the voice of God. Then the 144,000 triumphed. Their faces were lighted up with the glory of God. Then I was shown a company who were howling in agony. On their garments was written in large characters, “Thou art weighed in the balance, and found wanting.” I asked who this company were. The angel said, “These are they who have once kept the Sabbath and have given it up.” (professed Adventists who worship the trinity and break the Sabbath) I heard them cry with a loud voice, “We have believed in thy coming, and taught it with energy.” And while they were speaking, their eyes would fall upon their garments and see the writing, and then they would wail aloud. I saw that they had drunk of the deep waters, and fouled the residue with their feet—trodden the Sabbath under foot, and that is why they were weighed in the balance and found wanting." A Sketch of the Christian Experience and Views of Ellen G. White, p. 19.1

My brethren, the value of the evidences of truth that we have received during the past half century, is above estimate. These evidences are as treasure hidden in a field. Search for them. Study the Bible truths that for fifty years have been calling us out from the world. Present this evidence in clear, plain lines. Those who have been long in the truth and those who have recently received the truth must now dig for the buried heavenly treasure. Let every man work to the point. Study the word of God. Revive the evidences given in the past. “Search the Scriptures,” Christ said; “for in them ye think ye have eternal life, and they are they which testify of Me.”

Those who stand before the people as teachers of truth are to grapple with great themes. They are not to occupy precious time in talking of trivial subjects. Let them study the Word, and preach the Word. Let the Word be in their hands as a sharp, two-edged sword. Let it testify to past truths and show what is to be in the future are to shape our lives and that by us are to be proclaimed to the world. We are to keep abreast of the times, bearing a clear, intelligent testimony, guided by the unction of the Holy Spirit.—Manuscript 31, 1906. pp. 5, 6. (“Be Vigilant,” April 2, 1906.)

My obit for my Father:

Ronald Eugene Randolph, age 76, passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at his home in Madison, Mo., after a long battle with axillary lymph node cancer.

Ron Randolph was born May 27, 1939 in Michigan to the late Harry and Viola Randolph. Ron belonged to God’s church. “God has a church. It is not the great cathedral, neither is it the national establishment, neither is it the various denominations; it is the people who love God and keep His commandments. “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20). Where Christ is even among the humble few, this is Christ’s church, for the presence of the High and Holy One who inhabiteth eternity can alone constitute a church. Where two or three are present who love and obey the commandments of God, Jesus there presides, let it be in the desolate place of the earth, in the wilderness, in the city enclosed in prison walls” The Upward Look, Page 315.

For over 50 years, Ron owned and operated a residential and commercial construction company and taught all of his children the trade – sons and daughters alike. A couple of his favorite sayings were “early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise” and “if you don’t work, you don’t eat”. During his earlier years he was a colporteur and also worked for the State of Michigan helping to rehabilitate juveniles. He loved to garden – mega garden! You could easily call him the “Plant Whisperer” because plants and flowers thrived under his soft voice and green thumb.

On May 12, 1968, Ron married his sweetheart, the love of his life, Stella May Parrick. She survives of the home.

Ron is survived by four daughters and four sons: Lisa Shields (Veril) of Springfield, Or., Theresa (Michael) Randolph of Calumet, Mi., Cindy Haynes of Doniphan, Mo., Martha (Ken) Knuppel, of Cairo, Mo., Ben (Sarah) Randolph of Centralia, Mo, John (Laura) Randolph of Madison, Mo., James (Debbie) Randolph of Moberly, Mo., Robert (Danyelle) Randolph of Madison, Mo.; twenty-four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Larry (Ellen) Randolph of DeFuniak Springs, Fl., Harry (Mary) Randolph of Ypsilanti, Mi.

A daughter, 19 year old Malinda Randolph of Centralia, Mo., a sister, Dorothy Preston of Milan, Mi., and a grandchild, 29 year old James Egan II of Mi., also preceded Mr. Randolph in death.

A memorial service for Ron Randolph will be held at 10 a.m. on November 08 at the Moberly Seventh-day Adventist church in Moberly, Mo., with Ric Meyerpeter officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to the ComingHomeMinistry.org c/o Ron Randolph Memorial Fund, P. O. Box 420, Dryden WA 98821 to buy literature to give away to others – Ron’s most favorite hobby.

“All who have died in faith under the third angel's message come forth from the tomb glorified, TO HEAR GOD'S COVENANT OF PEACE with those who have kept his law. 'They also which pierced Him,' those that mocked and derided Christ's dying agonies, and the most violent opposers of his truth and his people, are raised to behold him in his glory, and to see the honor placed upon the loyal and obedient” –{The Spirit of Prophecy Volume 4, p. 454.1}. “those who have fallen asleep, having the seal of God, will have a special resurrection, and will be called forth to hear the covenant of peace, and to behold their Lord as He comes in the clouds of heaven” –{Stephen Haskell, 1905 SNH, SSP 252.1}.

To the husband of a sister who died under the third angel’s message, Ellen White wrote:
“Dear Brother:
“I hardly know what to say to you. The news of your
wife’s death was to me overwhelming. I could hardly believe
it and can hardly believe it now. God gave me a view last
Sabbath night which I will write. . . .
“I saw that she was sealed and would come up at the
voice of God and stand upon the earth, and would be with
the 144,000. I saw we need not mourn for her; she would
rest in the time of trouble, and all that we could mourn for
was our loss in being deprived of her company. I saw her
death would result in good.” 2SM 263.

Uriah Smith:
“Those who die after having become identified with the
third angel’s message, are evidently numbered as a part of
the 144,000; for this message is the same as the sealing message
of Revelation 7, and by that message only 144,000 were
sealed. But there are many who have had their entire religious
experience under this message, but have fallen in
death. They die in the Lord, and hence are counted as
sealed; for they will be saved. But the message results in the
sealing of only 144,000; therefore these must be included in
that number. Being raised in the special resurrection (Dan.
12:2; Rev. 1:7) which occurs when the voice of God is
uttered from the temple, at the beginning of the seventh
and last plague (Rev. 16:17; Joel 3:16; Heb. 12:26), they pass
through the period of that plague, and hence may be said
to come ‘out of great tribulation’ (Rev. 7:14), and being
raised from the grave only to mortal life, they take their
stand with believers who have not died, and with them
receive immortality at the last trump (1 Cor. 15:52), beingi
then, with the others, changed in a moment, in the twinkling
of an eye. Thus, though they have passed through the
grave, it can be said of them at last, that they are ‘redeemed
from among men’ (Rev. 14:4), that is, from among the living;
for the coming of Christ finds them among the living,
waiting for the change to immortality, like those who have
not died, and as if they themselves had never died.” DR 634
http://sdapillars.org/media/download_...

J. N. Loughborough:
“If there is still a doubt of the resurrected Sabbath keepers
being numbered with the 144,000, consider the following
from Sister White’s words in 1909. At the General
Conference in 1909, Elder Irwin had a stenographer
accompany him in a call upon Sister White. He wished to
ask her some questions, and have an exact copy of the
words of the questions, and the exact words of the replies.
Among other questions was this one: ‘Will those who have
died in the message be among the 144,000?’ In reply, Sister
White said: ‘Oh, yes, those who have died in the faith will
be among the 144,000. I am clear on that matter.’ These
were the exact words of question and answer, as Brother
Irwin permitted me to copy from his stenographer’s
report.” Questions on the Sealing Message, p. 31
http://www.andrews.edu/library/car/ca...

W. C. White wrote from Santa Helena,
California, in 1929, as follows:
“Now to the question, Did Sister White teach that those
who died in the message since 1844 and of whom it is said,
‘Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth,’
that they shall be members of the 144,000?
“I can assure you my brother, that this was the belief,
and the teaching of Ellen G. White. Many times I have heard
her make statements to this effect, and I am in possession of
a letter to Brother Hastings who is mentioned on page 237
of Life Sketches in which she says plainly that his wife who
had recently died would be a member of the 144,000.
“In a letter recently received from a brother in Reno,
Nevada, reference is made to a statement in Elder
Loughborough’s book found on page 91 [31] in which it is
reported that Sister White said: ‘Those who died in the
faith will be among the 144,000. I am clear on this matter.’
“And I testify, my brother, that is in perfect harmony
with her writings, her saying and her teachings throughout
the years of her ministry.” W. C. White, letter written at
Santa Helena, Calif., April 18, 1929.

Elder James White understood that those who are raised
at the partial (special) resurrection (15 days before Christ returns or "ONE HOUR" before Christ returns the one hour the Saints are to stand without a mediator in the sight of a Holy God after Christ says IT IS FINISHED and goes to put on his robe of vengence - those who pierced Christ and those who were His special enemies = persecuted Christ the most - are also raised) are not raised immortal. He wrote:
“Those who die under the third angel’s message are a
part of the 144,000; there are not 144,000 in addition to
these, but these help to make up that number. They are
raised to mortal life shortly before Christ comes, and . . . are
changed to immortality when Christ appears.” RH
9/23/1880.

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by ME” John 14:6.

===============
Ronald Eugene Randolph, age 76, passed away on November 01, 2015 at his home in Madison, Mo., after a long battle with axillary lymph node cancer.

Ron Randolph was born May 27, 1939 in Michigan to the late Harry and Viola Randolph. After a life-changing auto accident at age 17, Ron became a member of the government owned (all 501c3 non-profit/tax-exempt churches are government owned and regulated as to what they can say or not say today) Seventh-day Adventist church until in more recent years he went out obeying Rev 18:4; Matt 25:6 & Lev 20:26 of this Federally regulated 501(c)(3) SDA Corporate entity. Ron became a true Jesus believer and follower, a real original pioneer doctrine believing Seventh day Adventist after receiving a deeper understanding of the Three Angel’s Messages found in Rev 14:6-12. This three-fold warning goes out to all 501c3 churches and people not to come to the same mind, same ideas or same beliefs – a image of the beast (Papacy system of worship) and second beast (“another beast” of Rev 13:11 which is all 501c3 USA churches which have copied/made an image to, one or more of the beasts doctrines, against such we have been warned in Rev 14:9-12/Col 2:8) have done to receive the Mark (thoughts and actions) of the Beast (666).

Ron became a true God worshiper (1 Cor 8:6/John 4:23-24, Acts 24:14) like the original founders of Adventism. “Arise, shine; for thy light (“truths given in 1841, '42, '43 and 1844” 15MR Ltr 75 1905.) is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee” Isaiah 60:1. “TO THOSE WHO GO OUT TO MEET THE BRIDEGROOM IS THIS (Third Message Rev 14:9-12) MESSAGE (Go OUT of ALL 501c3 churches into Christ’s mind/teachings/words – Philippians 2:5) GIVEN" Christ’s Object Lessons, p. 420.3.

"All the messages given from 1840-1844 are to be made forcible now, for there are many people who have lost their bearings. The messages are to go to all the churches" MR Vol. 21 [Nos. 1501-1598], p. 437.1. "Many who went forth to meet the Bridegroom under the messages of the first and second angels, REFUSED THE THIRD, the LAST TESTING MESSAGE (Rev. 18:4, Matt. 25:6; come out of all 501c3 churches) to be given to the world, and a similar position will be taken when the last call is made" Last Day Events, p. 269.1, RH, October 31, 1899 par. 12.

A memorial service for Ron Randolph will be held at 10 am. on November 08, 2015 at the Seventh day Adventist church in Moberly, Mo., with Ric Meyerpeter officiating. Graveside service at 1:00.

“Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do” Philippians 4:9.

As far as I am able to remember, I grew up with the belief that man is made up of two components, the dust of the earth and the breath of life. I was pointed to Genesis 2:7 as the foundation on which this belief could be established.

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (Gen 2:7)

This idea seemed to make sense. It was easy to picture what had happened when man was created: First of all there was the lifeless body lying there, formed from the dust. Then God started the process of breathing, and when man started to breathe, he became a living soul. So I was made to understand that man is simply a piece of dirt that is breathing.

Psalm 115:17. “The dead praise not the Lord, neither any that go down into silence.”

Psalm 6:5
Among the dead no one proclaims your name. Who praises you from the grave?

Psalm 31:17
Let me not be put to shame, LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and be silent in the realm of the dead.

Psalm 88:10
Do you show your wonders to the dead? Do their spirits rise up and praise you?

Isaiah 38:18
For the grave cannot praise you, death cannot sing your praise; those who go down to the pit cannot hope for your faithfulness.

Psalm 30:9
"What is gained if I am silenced, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it proclaim your faithfulness?

Psalm 88:11
Is your love declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Destruction?

Psalm 115:17
It is not the dead who praise the LORD, those who go down to the place of silence;

Ecclesiastes 9:10
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

Ecclesiastes 9:5
For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing; they have no further reward, and even their name is forgotten.

Hezekiah's Song of Thanksgiving
17"Lo, for my own welfare I had great bitterness; It is You who has kept my soul from the pit of nothingness, For You have cast all my sins behind Your back. 18"For Sheol cannot thank You, Death cannot praise You; Those who go down to the pit cannot hope for Your faithfulness. 19"It is the living who give thanks to You, as I do today; A father tells his sons about Your faithfulness.…

Are The Dead Really Dead

Are The Dead Really Dead?Lesson 10

Death just might be one of the most misunderstood subjects today. To many it is enshrouded in mystery and evokes dreaded feelings of fear, uncertainty, and even hopelessness. Others believe that their deceased loved ones are not dead at all, but instead live with them or in other realms! Still others are confused about the relationship between the body, spirit, and soul. But does it really matter what you believe? Yes... absolutely! Because what you believe about the dead will have a profound impact on what happens to you in the end-times. There's no room for guessing, so this Study Guide will give you exactly what God says on this subject. Get ready for a real eye-opener!
Adam was created by God in the beginning.
Adam was created by God in the beginning.

1. How did we get here in the first place?

"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7.

Answer:   God made us from dust in the beginning.

The spirits of both the righteous and the wicked return to God. Their bodies return to dust.
The spirits of both the righteous and the wicked return to God. Their bodies return to dust.

2. What happens when a person dies?

"Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." Ecclesiastes 12:7.

Answer:   The body turns to dust again, and the spirit goes back to God, who gave it. The spirit of every person who dies--whether righteous or wicked--returns to God at death.

There is nothing mysterious about the spirit that returns to God at death. It is the breath of life.
There is nothing mysterious about the spirit that returns to God at death. It is the breath of life.

3. What is the "spirit" that returns to God at death?

"The body without the spirit ["breath," see margin] is dead." James 2:26. "The spirit of God ["the breath which God gave him," see margin] is in my nostrils."Job 27:3.

Answer:   The spirit that returns to God at death is the breath of life. Nowhere in all of God's book does the "spirit" have any life, wisdom, or feeling after a person dies. It is the "breath of life" and nothing more.

These four people are four souls.
These four people are four souls.

4. What is a "soul"?

"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7.

Answer:   A soul is a living being. A soul is always a combination of two things:body plus breath. A soul cannot exist unless body and breath are combined. God's Word teaches that we are souls.

5. Do souls die?

5. Do souls die?

"The soul that sinneth, it shall die." Ezekiel 18:20. "Every living soul died in the sea." Revelation 16:3.

Answer:   According to God's Word, souls do die! We are souls, and souls die. Man is mortal (Job 4:17). Only God is immortal (1 Timothy 6:1516). The concept of an undying, immortal soul goes against the Bible, which teaches that souls are subject to death.

6. Do good people go to heaven when they die?

6. Do good people go to heaven when they die?

"All that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth." John 5:2829. "David ... is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day." "For David is not ascended into the heavens." Acts 2:2934. "If I wait, the grave is mine house." Job 17:13.

Answer:   No, people do not go either to heaven or hell at death. They go to their graves to await the resurrection day.

7. How much does one know or comprehend after death?

"The living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun." "There is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest." Ecclesiastes 9:5610. "The dead praise not the Lord." Psalms 115:17.

Answer:   God says that the dead know absolutely nothing!

Though millions think it is possible, the dead cannot communicate with the living.
Though millions think it is possible, the dead cannot communicate with the living.

8. But can't the dead communicate with the living, and aren't they aware of what the living are doing?

"So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep." "His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them."Job 14:1221. "Neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun." Ecclesiastes 9:6.

Answer:   No, the dead cannot contact the living, nor do they know what the living are doing. They are dead. Their thoughts have perished (Psalms 146:4).

Jesus calls death "sleep." It is a state of total unconsciousness.
Jesus calls death "sleep." It is a state of total unconsciousness.

9. Jesus called the unconscious state of the dead "sleep" in John 11:11-14. How long will they sleep?

"So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more." Job 14:12. "The day of the Lord will come ... in the which the heavens shall pass away."
2 Peter 3:10.

Answer:   The dead will sleep until the great day of the Lord at the end of the world. In death, humans are totally unconscious with no activity or knowledge of any kind.

The righteous will be raised to life and given immortality at Jesus' second coming.
The righteous will be raised to life and given immortality at Jesus' second coming.

10. What happens to the righteous dead at the second coming of Christ?

"Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be." Revelation 22:12. "The Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, ... and the dead in Christ shall rise ... and so shall we ever be with the Lord." 1 Thessalonians 4:1617. "We shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, ... and the dead shall be raised incorruptible. ... For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality." 1 Corinthians 15:51-53.

Answer:   They will be rewarded. They will be raised, given immortal bodies, and caught up to meet the Lord in the air. There would be no purpose in a resurrection if people were taken to heaven at death.

The devil's first lie to Eve was "You won't die" - a statement completely contrary to all Scripture.
The devil's first lie to Eve was "You won't die" - a statement completely contrary to all Scripture.

11. What was the devil's first lie?

"And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die." Genesis 3:4. "That old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan." Revelation 12:9.

Answer:   Satan told Eve that sin would not bring death. "Ye shall not surely die," he said.

Those who believe the dead are alive become easy targets for the devil's deceptions.
Those who believe the dead are alive become easy targets for the devil's deceptions.

12. Why did the devil lie to Eve about death? Could this subject be more important than many think?

Answer:   It is one of the cornerstones of the devil's kingdom. He has worked powerful miracles down through the ages through people who claim to receive their power from the spirits of the dead. (Examples: Magicians of Egypt Exodus 7:11, Woman of Endor 1 Samuel 28:3-25, Sorcerers Daniel 2:2, A certain damselActs 16:16-18.)

A Solemn Warning
In the end-time Satan will again use sorcery as he did in Daniel's day to deceive the world (Revelation 18:23). Sorcery is a supernatural agency that claims to receive its power and wisdom from the spirits of the dead.

Posing as Jesus' Disciples
Posing as godly loved ones who have died, saintly clergymen who are now dead, Bible prophets, or even the apostles or disciples of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:13), Satan and his angels will deceive billions. Those who believe the dead are alive, in any form, will most assuredly be deceived.

All miracle working is not from God, because devils also work miracles.
All miracle working is not from God, because devils also work miracles.

13. Do devils really work miracles?

"They are the spirits of devils, working miracles." Revelation 16:14. "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect." Matthew 24:24.

Answer:   Yes, indeed! Devils work incredibly convincing miracles (Revelation 13:1314). Satan and his angels will appear as angels of light (2 Corinthians 11:14) and, even more shocking, as Christ Himself (Matthew 24:2324). The universal feeling will be that Christ and His angels are leading out in a fantastic worldwide revival. The entire emphasis will seem so spiritual and be so supernatural that only God's elect will not be deceived.

The elect will not be deceived, because they firmly reject everything that is contrary to Scripture.
The elect will not be deceived, because they firmly reject everything that is contrary to Scripture.

14. Why will God's people not be deceived?

"They received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so." Acts 17:11. "If they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." Isaiah 8:20.

Answer:   God's people will know from their earnest study of His book that the dead are dead, not alive. Spirits of the dead do not exist. Therefore, God's people will reject all miracle workers and teachers who claim to receive special "light" or work miracles by contacting the spirits of the dead. And God's people will likewise reject as dangerous and false all teachings that claim the dead are alive in any form, anywhere.

In Moses' day, people who claimed power to communicate with the dead were stoned to death.
In Moses' day, people who claimed power to communicate with the dead were stoned to death.

15. Back in Moses' day, what did God command should be done to people who taught that the dead were alive?

"A man also or woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones." Leviticus 20:27.

Answer:   God insisted that wizards and others with "familiar spirits" (who claimed to be able to contact the dead) should be stoned to death. This shows how God regards the false teaching that the dead are alive.

No one in God's new kingdom will ever die. Death will cease at the destruction of Satan.
No one in God's new kingdom will ever die. Death will cease at the destruction of Satan.

16. Will the righteous people who are raised in the resurrection ever die again?

"They which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, ... Neither can they die any more." Luke 20:3536. "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away." Revelation 21:4.

Answer:   No! Death, sorrow, crying, and tragedy will never enter into God's new kingdom.

Reincarnation is impossible. Because God says all who died, both good and evil, are in their graves.
Reincarnation is impossible. Because God says all who died, both good and evil, are in their graves.

17. Belief in reincarnation is expanding rapidly today. Is this teaching biblical?

"The living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing. ... Neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun." Ecclesiastes 9:56.

Answer:   Almost half the people on earth believe in reincarnation, a teaching that the soul never dies but is instead continually reborn in a different kind of body with each succeeding generation. This teaching, however, is contrary to Scripture.

The Bible Says
After death a person: returns to dust (Psalms 104:29), knows nothing (Ecclesiastes 9:5), possesses no mental powers (Psalms 146:4), has nothing to do with anything on earth (Ecclesiastes 9:6), does not live (2 Kings 20:1), waits in the grave (Job 17:13), and continues not (Job 14:12).

Satan's Invention
We learned in questions 11 and 12 that Satan invented the teaching that the dead are alive. Reincarnation, channeling, communication with spirits, spirit worship, and the "undying soul" are all inventions of Satan, with one aim to convince people that when you die you are not really dead. When people believe that the dead are alive, "spirits of devils, working miracles" (Revelation 16:14) and posing as spirits of the dead will be able to deceive and lead them astray virtually 100 percent of the time (Matthew 24:24).

Those who insist on Scripture proof for all doctrines will not be led astray by Satan.
Those who insist on Scripture proof for all doctrines will not be led astray by Satan.

18. I am thankful for the Bible, which tells us the truth on this sensitive subject of death.

THOUGHT QUESTIONS

1. Didn't the thief on the cross go to paradise with Christ the day He died?

No. In fact, on Sunday morning Jesus said to Mary, "I am not yet ascended to my Father." John 20:17. This shows that Christ did not go to heaven at death. Also note that the punctuation of the Bible is not inspired, but was added by men. The comma in Luke 23:43 should be placed after the words "to day" rather than before, so the passage should read, "Verily I say unto thee to day, shalt thou be with me in paradise." Or, "I'm telling you today--when it seems that I can save no one, when I myself am being crucified as a criminal--I give you the assurance today that you will be with me in paradise." Christ's kingdom is set up at His second coming (Matthew 25:31), and all the righteous of all ages will enter it at that time (1 Thessalonians 4:15-17) and not at death.

2. Doesn't the Bible speak of the "undying," "immortal" soul?

No, the undying, immortal soul is not mentioned in the Bible. The word "immortal" is found only once in the Bible, and it is in reference to God (1 Timothy 1:17).

3. At death the body returns to dust and the spirit (or breath) returns to God. But where does the soul go?

It goes nowhere. Instead, it simply ceases to exist. Two things must be combined to make a soul: body and breath. When the breath departs, the soul ceases to exist because it is a combination of two things. When you turn off a light, where does the light go? It doesn't go anywhere. It just ceases to exist. Two things must combine to make a light: a bulb and electricity. Without the combination, a light is impossible. So with the soul; unless body and breath are combined, there can be no soul. There is no such thing as a disembodied soul.

4. Does the word "soul" ever mean anything other than a living being?

Yes, it may mean also (1) life itself, or (2) the mind, or intellect. No matter which meaning is intended, the soul is still a combination of two things (body and breath), and it ceases to exist at death.

5. Can you explain John 11:26, which says, "And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die"?

This refers not to the first death, which all people die (Hebrews 9:27), but to the second death, which only the wicked die and from which there is no resurrection (Revelation 2:1121:8).

6. Matthew 10:28 says, "Fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul." Doesn't this prove that the soul is undying?

No, it proves the opposite. The last half of the same verse proves that souls do die. It says, "But rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." The word "soul" here means life and refers to eternal life, which is a gift (Romans 6:23) that will be given to the righteous at the last day (John 6:54). No one can take away the eternal life that God bestows. (See also Luke 12:45.)

7. Doesn't 1 Peter 4:6 say the gospel was preached to dead people?

No, it says the gospel "was" preached to those who "are" dead. They are dead now, but the gospel "was" preached to them while they were yet living.

8. What about the souls crying out from under the altar in Revelation 6:9, 10? Doesn't this show that souls do not die?

No. This cry was figurative, as was the cry of Abel's blood (Genesis 4:10). The word "soul" here means people (or living beings) who had been slain for their faith. Surely no one believes that souls who die literally lie under the altar, nor do people believe that the righteous beg God to punish their enemies. Rather, the righteous beg for mercy for their enemies, as Christ did on the cross (Luke 23:34).

9. Doesn't the Bible say Christ went and preached to lost souls in hell between His crucifixion and resurrection?

No, the Bible passage in question is 1 Peter 3:18-20. The preaching was done "by the Spirit" (verse 18) in Noah's day--to people who were then living (verses 19, 20). The "spirits in prison" refers to people whose lives were in bondage to Satan. (See Psalms 142:7Isaiah 42:6761:1; and Luke 4:18.)

"God's answer to this appeal goes forth in the proclamation: “Let all the angels of God worship him.” Every angelic commander obeys the royal mandate, and Worthy, worthy is the Lamb that was slain; and that lives again a triumphant conqueror! echoes and re-echoes through all Heaven. The innumerable company of angels prostrate themselves before the Redeemer. The request of Christ is granted; the church is justified through him, its representative and head. Here the Father ratifies the contract with his Son, that he will be reconciled to repentant and obedient men, and take them into divine favor through the merits of Christ. Christ guarantees that he will make a man “more precious than fine gold, even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.” All power in Heaven and on earth is now given to the Prince of life; yet he does not for a moment forget his poor disciples in a sinful world, but prepares to return to them, that he may impart to them his power and glory. Thus did the Redeemer of mankind, by the sacrifice of himself, connect earth with Heaven, and finite man with the infinite God.

Jesus said to Mary, “Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father.” When he closed his eyes in death upon the cross, the soul of Christ did not go at once to Heaven, as many believe, or how could his words be true—“I am not yet ascended to my Father”? The spirit of Jesus slept in the tomb with his body, and did not wing its way to Heaven, there to maintain a separate existence, and to look down upon the mourning disciples embalming the body from which it had taken flight. All that comprised the life and intelligence of Jesus remained with his body in the sepulcher; and when he came forth it was as a whole being; he did not have to summon his spirit from Heaven. He had power to lay down his life and to take it up again.

The brightest morning that ever dawned upon a fallen world, was that in which the Saviour rose from the dead; but it was of no greater importance to man than the day upon which his trial and crucifixion took place. It was no marvel to the heavenly host that He who controlled the power of death, and had life in himself, should awaken from the sleep of the grave. But it was a marvel to them that their loved Commander should die for rebellious men.

Christ rested in the tomb on the Sabbath day, and when holy beings of both Heaven and earth were astir on the morning of the first day of the week, he rose from the grave to renew his work of teaching his disciples. But this fact does not consecrate the first day of the week, and make it a Sabbath. Jesus, prior to his death, established a memorial of the breaking of his body and the spilling of his blood for the sins of the world, in the ordinance of the Lord's supper, saying “For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till he come.” And the repentant believer, who takes the steps required in conversion, commemorates in his baptism the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. He goes down into the water in the likeness of Christ's death and burial, and he is raised out of the water in the likeness of his resurrection—not to take up the old life of sin, but to live a new life in Christ Jesus" The Spirit of Prophecy, vol. 3, p. 203.2 (Ellen G. White); SDA Bible Commentary, vol. 5 (EGW), p. 1150.6 (Ellen G. White); The Desire of Ages, p. 790.2 (Ellen G. White).

The Son is Raised

Did Jesus Raise Himself from Death?
Jesus repeatedly predicted His death and resurrection.

Matt 16:21He must go unto Jerusalem...and be killed, and be raised again the third day
Matt 17:23the third day He shall be raised again
Luke 9:22and be raised the third day
Matt 20:19and the third day He shall rise again. [egerthesetai he will be raised]
Mark 8:31and after three days rise again
Luke 18:33and the third day He shall rise again

Three verses state He will be raised, a passive action performed by someone else.
Three verses state He will simply rise again without indicating how.

A central requirement of the Trinity doctrine is that Christ, a co-equal, eternal, person of the Godhead,
could not allow His divine nature to die, and thus He could resurrect Himself with His own power.
While the verses above do not clearly establish this, a couple statements suggest it.

One of them was made after being asked for a sign of His authority to cleanse the temple. Jesus said,

John 2:19____'Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.' [egerw auton I will arise]

Jesus had just cleansed the temple and gave this prediction as proof of His authority to do so.
The Jewish leaders misunderstood Christ's words to mean the literal stone edifice of Herod's temple.
They were incredulous: How could anyone erect a building in three days that took 46 years to build?!
Later they accused him of actually planning to destroy this temple Matt 27:39,40.

vs 21_______But Jesus "spoke of the temple of his body." He was speaking figuratively, using symbols.

The Body, His Church, is Raised
We, like the Jews, may misunderstand this to mean only Christ's physical body.
However, the New Testament uses the symbol of Christ's body to also represent His Church.

Rom 12:5We are one body in Christ
1Cor 12:12As the body is one and has many members...so also is Christ
1Cor 12:27We are the body of Christ and members in particular
Eph 4:12Apostles and prophets... are given for edifying the body of Christ
Eph 5:30For we are all members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones

Both symbolic meanings are true.
In three days Jesus would raise up both His body temple and His church body.

Luke 13:32 ..Jesus told Herod, "I perform cures today, tomorrow, and the third day I am perfected"

Here Jesus uses a day for a year to foretell the completion of His mission.
In the third year, both Jesus and the infant Church suffered death at the crucifixion.
Christ's physical body was destroyed; His followers were devastated -- their hope died.
But the Church was given new life to their hope
and raised up when Christ was raised from the dead.

2Cor 4:14He who raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus
1Pet 1:3The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ...
has begotten us again unto a lively hope

by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead

The two women (two churches) of Luke chapter 8 illustrate this truth.
The woman plagued with the issue of blood (the Old Testament sacrificial system)
was cured (the blood stopped, the temple veil was rent, the sacrifices ceased).
Later that same day, Jairus' daughter (the New Testament church) was raised from the dead.
The young 12 year old girl represents the birth of Christ's Church
as it is given life to rise up again and feed at the command of Jesus.
Finally, the sleeping church will rise again on the "third day", at the last day.
A day with the Lord is as a thousand years. In the 3rd millennial day, the Church will rise again.

John 6:44No man can come to me, except the Father draw him
and I will raise him up at the last day

God's drawing power and His resurrection power are both exercised through Christ.
As Jesus rose early on the morning of the third day,
so His sleeping saints will be raised by the call of His voice, the voice of the archangel,
on the morning of the third millennium, on "the last day".

Jesus, in all His third day predictions, was speaking as a prophet as foretold by Moses:

Deut 18:18I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee [Moses],
and will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.
vs 19And it shall come to pass that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

Jesus referred to these words of Moses when He said,

John 12:48He that rejects me, and receives not my words…the words that I have spoken…shall judge him
vs 49For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me,
he gave me a commandment,

what I should say, and what I should speak.

Ezekiel spoke about causing Jerusalem's destruction because he predicted it.

Ezek 43:3___"I came to bring the city to ruin" yet the Babylonian's destroyed the city, not Ezekiel.

Jesus predicted His death and resurrection, but caused neither.
He laid down His life willingly, voluntarily in obedience to the Father's will; but He didn't kill Himself.
Likewise, He rested obediently in the tomb, depending fully on His Father; He never acted on His own.
While Jesus announced His own resurrection, He didn't act impetuously to raise Himself.

The integrity of Christ's mission depended on the fulfillment of the words given Him by the Father.
It wasn't until after the resurrection that the disciples remembered these prophetic words of Jesus.
At the tomb the angel reminds them, "Remember what he told you?..
that the Son of Man must be delivered up ...and the third day rise again?" Luke 24:6-8.

John 2:22When He was risen from the dead,
his disciples remembered that He had said this to them.

And they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

"Risen" is ambiguous. He could have raised Himself, or the Father could have raised Him.
The NASV is clearer: "When He was raised from the dead," indicating He was raised by someone else.

The Father raised His Son
It is abundantly clear from scripture that the disciples understood Who raised Christ.
Peter and Paul repeatedly and consistently stated that God, the Father, raised Jesus.

Gal 1:1God, the Father, who raised [Jesus Christ] from the dead
Eph 1:19,20By the exceeding greatness of the Father's mighty power …he raised Christ from the dead.
2Cor 4:14He [the Father] which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus

The Father created the worlds by Jesus; The Father shall raise us up by Jesus.
The same principle works here as in creation: The Father is the Source of all life and power.
In the Greek, each time the Father is the subject, the verb is in the active voice.
This indicates that the subject, in this case the Father, is doing the action, He is doing the raising.
Every time Christ is the subject the verb is always in the passive voice,
the action is being done on Christ.

Rom 6:4Christ was raised up from the dead by [Gr. dia through, for] the glory of the Father
Acts 2:22,24Jesus of Nazareth...Whom God has raised up having loosed the pains of death
Acts 2:32This Jesus has God raised up Acts 3:15 The Prince of life whom God has raised from the dead
Acts 3:26God (the Father), having raised up his Son Jesus
Acts 4:10Jesus Christ…whom God raised from the dead
Acts 5:30The God of our fathers raised up Jesus
1Pet 1:21God, that raised him up from the dead
Col 2:12God, who has raised him [Jesus] from the dead
Acts 10:40

Him [Christ] God raised up the third day

Acts 13:30,34God raised him [Jesus] from the dead…He raised Him up from the dead
Acts 13:37He whom God raised again saw no corruption
Rom 8:11Him [God] that raised up Jesus from the dead
Acts 17:31[God] has raised him from the dead
Rom 4:24Believe on Him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead
1Cor 15:15We have testified of God that He raised up Christ. If not "we are false witnesses of God"
1Thess 1:9,10We wait for His [God's] Son from heaven, whom He [God] raised from the dead
1Cor 6:14
2Cor 13:4

God has both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by His own power
Though he was crucified...yet he lives by the power of God.

Rom 10:9If you believe in your heart that God has raised [the Lord Jesus] from the dead
you shall be saved. i.e., Belief in God's raising Jesus is critical to our salvation
Heb 5:7[Christ] offered up prayers…unto Him that was able to save Him from death

"He was in that stony prison house as a prisoner of divine justice. He was responsible to the Judge of the universe. He was bearing the sins of the world, and His Father only could release Him." EGW Manuscript 94, 1897.

Jesus raised the dead by speaking to them.

Luke 7:16Young man, arise
Luke 8:55Talitha cumi, Maiden, arise
John 11Lazarus, come forth
John 5:25At the first resurrection all in the graves shall hear Christ's voice and live
Isa 26:19Awake, ye that dwell in the dust
1Thes 4:16When Jesus resurrects the sleeping saints He does so with a shout

So did His Father speak to raise His Son.
An angel descends from heaven and brings the Father's command.

"Then the mighty angel, with a voice that caused the earth to quake, was heard: Jesus, thou Son of God, thy Father calls thee! Then he who had earned the power to conquer death and the grave came forth" Spirit of Prophecy Vol. 3 p. 192, 1878.

"Then the angel from heaven, with a voice that caused the earth to quake, cried out, "Thou Son of God, Thy Father calls Thee! Come forth." Death could hold dominion over Him no longer. Jesus arose from the dead, a triumphant conqueror." Early Writings, p. 182 (1882).

"The soldiers see him removing the stone as he would a pebble, and hear him cry, Son of God, come forth; Thy Father calls Thee.Desire of Ages, p. 780 (1889)

"The light of heaven encircled the tomb, and the whole heaven was lighted by the glory of the angels. Then his voice was heard, "Thy Father calls Thee; come forth" 5SDABC p. 1110, MS 115, 1897.

Matt 2:15 __Out of Egypt have I [the Father] called My Son

Matthew is actually quoting Hosea 11:1 which is making an historical statment of fact.
God calls Israel "my son" but Jesus is the Second Israel, even as He is the Second Adam.
Matthew then applies this to the historical truth that Jesus also "came out of Egypt."
Egypt is both a symbol of plenty and refuge in time of famine, and of bondage-genocide.
Like Joseph, Jesus goes to Egypt and finds safety from murderous threats born of jealousy.
God promised Jacob "I will go down with you into Egypt and I will bring you up again" Gen 46.3
In Rev 11 Egypt is a symbol of death "where our Lord was crucified."
Therefore, Jesus was called out of Egypt both literally and symbolically.
First, when as an infant his father Joseph took him there as directed by an angel from God.
Secondly, when sleeping in the tomb his heavenly Father called him out of the bondage of death.

Jesus obeyed the call of His Father and came forth with a new spiritual body that was given Him.
Obedient in life unto death, He was obedient in death unto life.
 Phil 2:8
He was patient, trusting, not impetuous or willfully independent.
He died in His natural body; He was raised in His spiritual body becoming a life-giving Spirit. 1Cor 15:44,45
He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit.

1Pet 3:18Christ [was] quickened [resurrected] by the Spirit [of God]
John 5:30

(either way, whether His Father or His Father's Spirit)
Jesus of His own self could do nothing

This is evidenced by the fact that an angel came from heaven to roll away the stone. Matt 28:2
If Jesus was able to awake Himself from the sleep of death, then raise Himself back to life,
He certainly should have been able to remove the stone by Himself.
But after this His Father quickened Him with His Spirit,
restored His immortality, and called Him to come forth.

John 11:25"Jesus declared, 'I am the resurrection, and the life.'
John 1:4In him was life once again. This life was given back to Christ from His Father
John 5:26as the Father has life in Himself,
so has He given to the Son to have life in himself
1Cor 15:45,47The last Adam was made a quickening (life-giving) spirit…
the Lord from heaven

His Father is the Source of all life, giving immortal, self-existent life to His Son.
He gave this life to His Son in the beginning and again at the resurrection.
Thus Christ has immortality and is the Source of all life to the creatures He created.

"All created things live by the will and power of God. They are dependent recipients of the life of the Son of God. However able and talented, however large their capabilities, they are replenished with life from the Source of all life." 5SDABC p. 1113, Manuscript 131, 1897.

Then Jesus, with the immortal, divine life that was restored to Him,
raised Himself from a lying position in obedience to the command from His Father to arise,
even as He had commanded others to arise.
His human body could not come forth from the tomb until an angel removed the stone. Mat 28:2
He appeared first to Mary, who was cautioned to not touch or handle Him. John 20:17
The reason He gives is that He, as our High Priest, had not yet ascended to see His Father in heaven.
He came forth from the tomb without seeing corruption, without breeding worms, without sin. Acts 2:27;Ex 16:24
He had previously sacrificed His divine powers, laying them aside, to become a man Phil 2:6,7.
Now he had sacrificed His human body but had yet to complete the sacrifice by presenting His blood. Lev 4:17
He ascended to the Holy Place with the blood of the covenant to obtain eternal redemption for us Heb 9:11, 12

See Formation of the Heavenly Trio

Later He appears to the other women who are now allowed to hold Him by the feet. Matt 28:9
The two disciples on the way to Emmaus did not recognize Jesus for he appeared in another form. Mark 16:12
He had been "transfigured" since the cross when His visage was marred beyond recognition. Isa 52:14
But when they reached home and He broke the bread suddenly their eyes were opened. Luke 24:30
His body was significantly changed when He dined with them and then disappearing in their presence.
Later He reappeared to the group behind shut doors demonstrating supernatural abilities of His glorified body.
Yet His body was still recognizable, the prints in his hands, feet and side were visible and solid.
He appeared before the disciples saying, "A spirit has not flesh and bones as you see me have." Luke 24:39
He then ate food in their presence to prove that He was not just a phantom spirit.
"Flesh and blood" is a very frequent phrase Matt 16:17; 1Cor 15:50; Eph 6:12; Gal 1:16; Heb 2:14
Every occurrence refers to a human body. But "flesh and bones" suggests a different kind of body.
"The life is in the blood" And the blood was taken to heaven and left there, an eternal sacrifice for man.
Jesus gives us his blood, his life of obedience, of victory, give us power to overcome. Lev 17:11;Heb 10:19
He was now sustained by a different kind of life, an eternal zoe life of immortality.

Eight days later He again appeared to them behind closed doors to show Thomas that He knew of his doubt.
Jesus proved that He was present with them while invisible; His presence was just as real then as now.
"I am the truth" John 14:6 "I will pray the Father and he will give you...the Spirit of truth" vs 16,17.
"and shall be in you" vs 17. "I will come to you" vs 18. "I in you" vs 20.
He commands Thomas to touch and handle Him to prove that He had a real body, more real than ours!
He proved this again at a final appearance on the shore of Galilee cooking a meal of bread and fish.
Did He catch the fish, gather the wood, build the fire? He invited them to bring some of their fish as well!
This was the real last supper and Jesus ate together with them again showing them that His body was real.
His body had graced His early life, borne our sins in it, rested without corruption in the tomb.
He glorified the Father in it, and now it would never be laid aside again, forever immortal, the divine Man.

Thus, the Father raised Jesus from the dead by calling Him forth and giving back His immortal life.
And Jesus raised His physical self once He had received back His divine soul (psuche). Both are true.
Once again He was begotten of the Father, "no more to return to corruption" Acts 13:34; no more mortal.
Paul applies Psalm 2:7 "this day have I begotten thee" to the day that "God...has raised up Jesus again" vs. 33.
Jesus was now "declared to be the Son of God...by the resurrection from the dead" Rom 1:4
Thus He became "the first begotten of the dead" Rev 1:5.

Three times Jesus was begotten. All three are true.
1. He was begotten in heaven before the foundation of the world
2. He was begotten in Bethlehem "in the fullness of time"
3. He was begotten from the dead when He was resurrected by His Father

He presented this human body to the Father Sunday morning to fulfill the wave sheaf offering.
Jesus is the First fruit of those who sleep in death, He fulfilled the wave sheaf on the day of His resurrection.
He was not the first to be resurrected from the dead. Moses was.
But, like Esau, Reuben, Manasseh, Cain who were all literal firstborns, they were not the significant firstborn.
Christ is the Leader, the Chief, the Head, the real Firstborn of heaven.
When we are born again, we are raised to newness of life, a kind of first fruits from an old life dead in sin.

James 1:18The Father…chose to give us birth through the word of truth (Jesus)
That we might be a kind of first fruits of all He created

The exact nature of the spiritual body, the celestial body that we will receive at the last trump is uncertain.

1Jn 3:2It does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that when He shall appear
we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is

So, to what extent did Christ's divinity still reside within Him?
And to what extent did Christ lay aside His divinity before leaving heaven?

Christ said that He laid down His life (psuchen, soul) and has power to take it again.
However, the issue is not ability or power but authority which, Jesus says, comes from His Father.

John 10:17Therefore does my Father love me, because I lay down my life [psuchen, soul]
that I might take [labw Strong's #2983, receive, get] it again
John 10:18No man takes [airen Strong's #142, take] it from me, but I lay it down of myself
I have power [ezonsian authority, liberty, privledge, right] to lay it [My soul] down,
and I have power [ezonsian authority] to take [labein Strong's #2983 receive, get] it again. This commandment have I received [elabon Strong's #2983]
of my Father

Jesus said "no man takes it from me, but I lay it down of myself"
but He didn't say "no man gives it to me, I take it again by myself."

The word "take" has two Greek forms in this text.
When Jesus says "No man takes it from me"
the Greek word is Strong's #142 airo which is translated take up or take away.
It is a unilateral action; a removal by one party without any associated transfer from another party.

John 1:29the Lamb of God which takes [airo] away the sins of the world
John 2:10Take [airo] these things away! Make not my Father's house a den of thieves
John 5:8Rise, take up [airo] thy bed and walk
John 11:39Take away [airo] the stone!
John 20:13They have taken away [airo] my Lord

But when He says He will "take it again" John uses a different Greek word,
Strong's #2983 labo, labein, elabon. Various forms of lambano
which is translated as either take or receive because it is a reciprocal action
There is a transfer of something from a giver to a receiver. For example,

Matt 26:26___Jesus took bread, blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them saying, "Take, eat..."

In taking the bread, they received it.
So lambano is also translated as receive 133 times in the New Testament.

John 1:12As many as received him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God
John 3:27A man can receive nothing except it be given him from heaven
John 16:24Ask and you shall receive
John 20:22Jesus breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit"

Lambano is also translated 106 times as take.
Each time a take occurs, a receive happens as well.
This same Greek word is used in John 10:18 when Jesus said He "received" this commandment
from His Father who "gave" it to Him. He could just as well said, "I take this command, this responsibility."
The taking of lambano is always the result of receiving that which is given. It's a reciprocal action.

If we translate the reciprocal "take-receive" lambano as the unilateral "take" of airo
_______then this verse contradicts the many verses which state that God the Father raised Jesus.
If we translate lambano as a reciprocal "take and receive", then this verse agrees with all these verses
_______and only conflicts with the two other verses that seem to suggest Jesus raised Himself.
_______In harmony with John 5:26, the Son has authority to receive again the life His Father gave Him.

The Weymouth translation renders this verse using lambano consistently.
"I have authority to lay it down and I have authority to receive it again.
This commandment I received from my Father."
So does The New English Bible
"I have the right to lay it down, and I have the right to receive it back again;
this charge I have received from my Father."

So also, Jesus took and received the life that His Father gave Him;
He had been given the authority to take and receive the life which His Father gave.

John 20:17 "Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God."

17 (John 10:18). All of Christ Remained in Tomb—Jesus said to Mary, “Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father.” When He closed His eyes in death upon the cross, the soul of Christ did not go at once to heaven, as many believe, or how could His words be true—“I am not yet ascended to my Father”? The spirit of Jesus slept in the tomb with His body, and did not wing its way to heaven, there to maintain a separate existence, and to look down upon the mourning disciples embalming the body from which it had taken flight. All that comprised the life and intelligence of Jesus remained with His body in the sepulcher; and when He came forth it was as a whole being; He did not have to summon His spirit from heaven. He had power to lay down His life and to take it up again (The Spirit of Prophecy 3:203, 204).

Pentecost! The day when Christ returned to His children on earth in spiritual form as the Holy Spirit who would now live within them as their Comforter. We are not complete in our heavenly Father, until we receive His Spirit which is holy. "Holy" means the "Presence" of God: which simply means to be in constant agreement with God. Pentecost is when our Saviour and Comforter who was physically manifest on earth in human form would now be with us in His spiritual manifestation as our Comforter.

21, 22. A Foretaste of Pentecost—The act of Christ in breathing upon His disciples the Holy Ghost, and in imparting His peace to them, was as a few drops before the plentiful shower to be given on the day of Pentecost. Jesus impressed this fact upon His disciples, that as they should proceed in the work intrusted to them, they would the more fully comprehend the nature of that work, and the manner in which the kingdom of Christ was to be set up on earth. They were appointed to be witnesses for the Saviour; they were to testify what they had seen and heard of His resurrection; they were to repeat the gracious words which proceeded from His lips. They were acquainted with His holy character; He was as an angel standing in the sun, yet casting no shadow. It was the sacred work of the apostles to present the spotless character of Christ to men, as the standard for their lives. The disciples had been so intimately associated with this Pattern of holiness that they were in some degree assimilated to Him in character, and were specially fitted to make known to the world His precepts and example (The Spirit of Prophecy 3:243, 244).

23 (Matthew 16:18, 19; 18:18). Man Cannot Remove One Stain of Sin—Christ gave no ecclesiastical right to forgive sin, nor to sell indulgences, that men may sin without incurring the displeasure of God, nor did He give His servants liberty to accept a gift or bribe for cloaking sin, that it may escape merited censure. Jesus charged His disciples to preach the remission of sin in His name among all nations; but they themselves were not empowered to remove one stain of sin from the children of Adam.... Whoever would attract the people to himself as one in whom is invested power to forgive sins, incurs the wrath of God, for he turns souls away from the heavenly Pardoner to a weak and erring mortal (The Spirit of Prophecy 3:245, 246).

24-29. Tenderness Won Thomas—Jesus, in His treatment of Thomas, gave His followers a lesson regarding the manner in which they should treat those who have doubts upon religious truth, and who make those doubts prominent. He did not overwhelm Thomas with words of reproach, nor did He enter into a controversy with him; but, with marked condescension and tenderness, He revealed Himself unto the doubting one. Thomas had taken a most unreasonable position, in dictating the only conditions of his faith; but Jesus, by His generous love and consideration, broke down all the barriers he had raised. Persistent controversy will seldom weaken unbelief, but rather put it upon self-defense, where it will find new support and excuse. Jesus, revealed in His love and mercy as the crucified Saviour, will bring from many once unwilling lips the acknowledgment of Thomas, “My Lord, and my God” (The Spirit of Prophecy 3:222).

John 10:18 (KJV) 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

"Pentecost [which] brought them the heavenly illumination. The truths they could not understand while Christ was with them were now unfolded. With a faith and assurance that they had never before known, they accepted the teachings of the Sacred Word. No longer was IT A MATTER OF FAITH with them that Christ was the Son of God. They KNEW that, although clothed with humanity, He was indeed the Messiah, and they told their experience to the world with a confidence which carried with it the conviction that God was with them." The Acts of the Apostles, p. 45.3

And it shall come to pass afterward, [that] I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. (Joel 2:28)

This verse describes a situation where both men and women would prophesy, and that old men would have dreams, while young men would have visions.

As a matter of fact, Joel 2:28 has already been fulfilled. The first (early rain/Pentecost) meets the LATTER RAIN (Loud Cry) Type meets anti-type.

The Loud Cry or Latter Rain began around 1841-1846 and will again be poured out in these last days - March 19, 2013 to Sept 19, 2016, cut short in Righteousness by 25 days to Aug 5, 2016. The truth has been growing and growing and filling the whole earth - like Queen Vashti refused to show off her beauty at the command of the King, Seventh day Adventists have refused to show off the beauty of the great truths given to her during the early-later rain of the end time 2 beasts reign (Rev 13:11) = the Seventh day Adventist movement from beginning to end. The Adventist movement started out with a lamb-like voice speaking pure truth and became corrupted very early on in the experience, as early as 1852 they had become indifferent to truth (Laodicean/foolish virgins/stony ground hearers/tares), putting it into practice in their daily choices. The 501c3 Adventist church now speaks with the voice of the dragon - promoting the same mind or same ideas as the first beast (Papacy).

1981: 34 years ago, SDA World President Neal C. Wilson boldly declared, "...There is another universal and truly catholic organization, the Seventh-day Adventist Church." (Review, March 5, 1981, page 3).

"God does nothing in partnership with Satan" VOL. 4, P. 230.

In fact, in 1867 - 148 years ago - Ellen White predicted/foresaw the SDA church becoming Catholic! "The company now presented the appearance of a Catholic procession." Testimonies for The Church Vol. 1 p. 578, January 29, 1867.

“Shall this power, whose record for a thousand years is written in the blood of the saints, be now acknowledged as a part of the church of Christ?” The Great Controversy, page 571.

“Her spirit is no less cruel and despotic now than when she crushed out human liberty and slew the saints of the Most High.”

Babylon = "religious bodies that were once pure and have become corrupt" GC382.3.

"Babylon is “the mother of harlots.” Her daughters must be churches that cling to her doctrines and follow her example of sacrificing truth in order to form an alliance with the world. The message announcing the fall of Babylon must apply to religious bodies that were once pure and have become corrupt (SDA movement). Since this message follows the warning of the judgment, it must be given in the last days. Therefore it cannot refer to the Roman Church alone, for that church has been in a fallen condition for centuries" HF 238.1; The Great Controversy, p. 382.3.

God's last day message, the LAST WARNING message is to separate from all churches - to come OUT of them per Matthew 25:6, Revelation 18:4 and so many other places in the Bible.

God will raise up others who are not qualified by literary institutions but rather by the Holy Spirit which is the Risen Life of Christ indwelling in His people, like Queen Esther was chosen by the King and raised up in her day to help her people to give the last warning messages - the three angels messages found in Rev 14:6-12:

Notice what Peter said on the day of Pentecost:

...Peter...said unto them...this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Act 2:14-21)

The great out-pouring of the "Spirit upon all flesh" was fulfilled 2,000 years ago at Pentecost and will be again - at the Loud Cry = which goes forth in greater power at the legislation of the Sunday Law. There are many passages in the New Testament indicating the gift of prophecy was active among both men and women in the early church. (Acts 11:27, 13:1, 15:32, 21:9; Rom. 12:6, 1 Cor. 11:4, 12:10, 12:28, 14:1-32; Eph. 2:20, 3:5, 4:11, 1 Tim. 4:14).

Furthermore, the signs of the "dark day" and moon of "blood" were also already fulfilled prior to Pentecost and will be again repeated. History always repeats itself. Matthew tells us the earth was darkened on the day that Christ died (Matt. 27:45). Astronomers have also discovered that there was a lunar eclipse over Jerusalem on the day of Christ's crucifixion in 33 AD.

The wise virgins depart/exit from baptized paganism into the protection of Christ and His angels by JOINING themselves to the Way. "Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6. The Way is Christ's righteousness (pure unadulterated truth put into practice into our choices/life) and is the only protection/covering from the 7 last plagues.
